Just Curious
I'm always looking to bring in new readers here at BSD. The bigger and more diverse of a community we can build the better and more fun it is for all of us. Sometimes I wonder if I'm putting effort in the right areas. So I was curious, how did you all stumble upon this tube of the internest we call Black Shoe Diaries?
Feel free to leave me detail in the comments as well. I would also be interested in knowing how long you have been reading BSD. Maybe I'll do another poll on that next week.
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

I am a diehard Redskins fan and belong to SB*Nations HogsHaven. I thought It would be mighty kickass if SB*Nation had a PSU Blog…I looked and found this space!

That's pretty much how I found it, too...
Except I Yahoo’d.

None of the above
there was a short article about Penn State football blogs in the Sep/Oct. ‘07 Penn Stater alumni magazine on page 28, so I’ve been reading it for nearly a year now.

Ditto for me
And I have to say, reading this blog last season made college football that much more fun.

I read it, too.....
but I came to your site a couple of years ago. Too long ago for me to remember exactly which other PS site I came from.

3 degrees of Bruce Feldman
Reading Bruce Feldman’s ESPN mailbags, he linked to EDSBS, which is great. After a few weeks of reading that, Orson Swindle linked to SMQ, which is (was) also an awesome blog. SMQ referenced Mike’s drunken shenanigans here in early 2007, and the rest is history.

Oh man
The durnk posdts.
It’s been a long time since I did one of those. We may have to bring that back this weekend. I’ve never drank with the intention of putting together a drunk post at the end of the night.

Drunk Posts
are gold. They are just great surprises and they really delve into the mind of a big time blogger.

EDSBS...
lead me this way as well. But I believe EDSBS linked to RUTS which lead me to his Penn State blog links and BSD became a daily read for me from there.
And a suggestion for a future poll, I wouldn’t mind seeing how everyone became a Penn State football fanatic. I know most of you are probably alumni or students but I’d be willing to bet there are more than a few who have interesting stories leading to their Penn State addiction.

Thanks..
for leaving me an area on the poll.
I do agree that drunk posts are a pretty good read. However, sometimes do to my condition, I find them easy to read and understand.
Thanks Mike!

I've been reading for over a year....
so it’s tough to remember, but I think it was a link from someone on the Penn Live forum. I clicked on it and the rest is history. I visit daily and often send links to my friends.

I too followed the lead from PennLive...
the forum over there has rapidly spiraled in crap from 4-5 years ago and was looking for a place not filled with idiots, loons, and board trolls. I gave up and come here instead. : )

Actually
This begs a question: is it only a matter of time? Til idiots, loons and board trolls start frequenting? Can we hope that the heretofore upstanding citizenry and the Peer Power they display is enough to bore the unsavories away from posting? Can I get any more snobby?

Not completely troll free
We did have a Pitt poster or two I had to ban a year ago. I’m kind of shocked it hasn’t been worse. Maybe it’s because we’re mostly focused on Penn State here and don’t discuss other programs often. Or maybe it’s because I make it a point to not respond to trolls when they try to drag this site down in the mud. I think you guys are pretty good about keeping order yourselves and blowing off idiots without making a big deal about them. Usually they get bored and move on pretty quickly. But so far we’ve been pretty lucky here.

Keep requiring account registration
SBNation’s ban of anonymous posters is really effective at cutting down on trolling. Most people lurking won’t want to go through the hassle of creating an account if they’re just going to spray some random hate. If anyone’s been paying attention to the comments at mgoblog, Brian went from having 500 to 50 commenters per post when he enabled the account requirement, and things got a lot more manageable.

Heard about BSD from a friend...
while we were talking about how we waste time at work. I used to read penn state news links off espn but this is much more interesting. I read it every day with my morning coffee and throughout the day depending on how productive im feeling at work. Thanks for such a great distraction. Just don’t tell my boss.

Apt Fight
I had heard about the apt. fight and was looking for names. Somehow I came across BSD, that was about a year and a half ago, don’t remember what engine I used or anything like that.
It’s crazy how much this place has grown. I used to be able to read all the comments but now every post gets 30-40 comments I can’t keep up; it seems like there are 10 new screen names every day. Keep doing what you’re doing Mike.

It was Broderick Green
I wasn’t an insider on FOS, and I wanted to follow his recruiting. Your site was the only one consistently updating about his recruitment/press conference.
Been here ever since.

Other than....
2nd Tier sports like Volley Ball, Fencing, and Gymnastics.
That said…I have such a good feeling about this season. I have not felt even close to this strong about a team going into a season since the Enis Envy team of the 90s. Even the ’94 team I felt good about but not great. There sare just so many ways we can beat teams. My question mark comes in a coaching. I have no question in my mind that we have the tools. I am not convinced we have the craftmen skilled enough to use the tools.

Volleyball...
Rocks! It may be a “2nd tier” sport, but those guys and girls work hard and to pull off 2 National Championships this past year is amazing. Gotta give them credit!

A friend of mine runs FANBUNKER.com. Found you, RUTS, and the BIG ELEVENTH, and EDSBS (for fulmer cup results). Read RUTS pretty consistently (I like his sense of humor, and some of his off PSU topics), and checked in with you and BIG 11th on occasion. When RUTS moved over here, I followed. Checking in Daily now. One Week until PSU goes coastal on carolina!
