Nice Article on Al Golden & Temple
ESPN has a nice article about Al Golden & Temple. It just basically points out how bad the team was and how he has had to change everything. It amazes me how some of these schools that lose all of the time can afford and justify staying FBS. I however am glad that Temple and Rutgers have given it the old college try and finally found some coaches to bring success to their programs. What is real cool is they both coached at PSU at some point.

PS Temple, get rid of that god-awful owl sound!

One thing really got my attention in that article
“I don’t think that we’re there yet,” DiMichelle said. “It could be this year, it could be next year, but we’re not where we want to be yet. If you look at our schedule, we could beat any team on that schedule.”
If he thinks Temple can beat PSU then he’s one something. Yes, Temple’s better and I’m happy for them but they will NOT beat PSU. You have to appreciate the spirit but he’s dreaming if he thinks they can win in HV this year!

True, but...
They were ridiculously competitive in the first half last year and just shit the bed in the red zone.
And in the interest of self-pimping, take a look at my profile of Golden as a replacement for JoePa. If I was Graham Spanier, Golden would be the guy I went after.

It was a somewhat competitive game for a Temple game
but at no point in the game did anyone say to themselves….we could lose this game. It was never in jeopardy, even by a long shot. We played the game against Temple close to the vest because we knew we could beat them on talent alone and because of who our QB was. This year I think Temple will get blown out even more than they did last year because Clark is going to open up things for our offense and make it easier for us to move the ball without taking risks(which we know our staff hates to do).
Our offense is going to be good IMO, simply because of Clark. We will do well with the ball on the ground which will allow us to throw the ball for a high percentage because the D will have to commit extra players to stop the run. I hope we stay healthy on Offense because the sky is the limit with this team under Clark!

I don't know if I thought they could lose
But I do know I did a lot of screaming at the TV for a game they won by thirty points.
I think if we played that game ten times last year 2 would be routes, seven would be inside of 17 points, and Temple would beat us once. That could be a tough game this year.

"In the Interest of Self-Pimping"
Now that’s a sweet segue! I’m gonna try using this in the office, and see what transpires…..

BTW, who was Max McGee?
From your self-pimping article: "When it’s third and ten, you can take the milk drinkers and I’ll take the whiskey drinkers every time." — Max McGee
Convivite Nudem!
Scored the first Super Bowl touchdown
…as a receiver for the Packers. He famously partied all night before the game:
McGee had only four receptions for 91 yards during the 1966 regular season. He did not plan to play in the title game against the Chiefs because he violated the team curfew and spent the night before partying.
Boyd Dowler separated a shoulder on the Packers’ second drive, and Lombardi summoned McGee. He had to borrow a helmet because he left his in the locker room. A few plays later, McGee made a one-handed snare of a pass from Bart Starr and ran 37 yards to score.
"When it’s third-and-10, you can take the milk drinkers and I’ll take the whiskey drinkers every time," McGee said.

Freakin Classic
Thanks!
Btw, I just lost my primary client. In the middle of an innovation meeting, utilizing a Run Up The Score device, I suggested: ‘by the way, in the interest of self-pimping, let’s take a look at some of my earlier innovative work in this technique,’ and accidentally displayed a camera phone pic of an End Zone lapdance across the projector.
Oh well, I’m going to France this weekend, and the Syracuse game is coming up fast.

But self-pimping IS innovation.
People just don’t realize it yet. They will. And you’ll be rich.

Flying Temple banners
I live at the Jersey shore and yesterday while on the beach I saw an airplane towing a banner advertising Temple football. Never saw that for Rutgers. Actually never saw that for any sports team before. Being originally from Philly, I always root for Temple to do well (except against State). I met a guy who’s son plays for Temple and he said all the kids really respect Golden. Hopefully Golden keeps bringing improvement.
