Medical Redshirts
Since we've had several discussions here on medical redshirts, here is a stroy about Mauk a QB at Cincinatti trying to get one. He was injured missing his Junior season but came back and played his entire senior (5th year) season. The NCAA denied his request 4 times for a 6th year.

The basic answer appears to be if you play after your injury you don't get a medical redshirt.
So it does not appear that Still will get any extra years of eligibility beyond his normal 5 years.

Does degree completion matter?
I think one of the issues with Ben Mauk that people tend to overlook concerning his trying to get a sixth year is that he already completed his undergraduate degree at Wake Forest.
The only reason he was allowed to play at Cincinnati was because he took advantage of the former NCAA rule allowing players who had already graduated to attend another I-A school for a masters if it was a program their former school didn’t offer.
Perhaps it would be a different scenario if he was a few credits short of finishing his BA or BS?

Should it matter?
Do we want kids flunking in class so they need an extra year to get the credits they need?

Only if they're good
What if someone is in a program that requires more than the traditional 120 credits to graduate? They could still pass all their classes while taking the minimum course load and need an extra semester after five years.

The problem...
…with Mauks claim for another year is he took a regular redshirt year at Wake Forrest that he is now, retroactively, claiming was a medical redhirt year. There is substantial evidence to the contrary although Wake is superficially supporting Mauk’s claim.
