PREDICTIONS (here!)
What did I say yesterday? 41-10? 41-10. Lots of plodding and handing off in the second half.
I will practically be insulted if we don’t get either a defensive or special teams TD today. CCU’s been having real trouble with punts in practice.
by Run Up The Score on Aug 30, 2008 9:29 AM EDT reply actions
Predictions
I’m sayin 52-7. 7 td’s, but knowing Jay he’ll still manage to call the wrong plays at some point and we’ll have to settle for a 23 yard field goal. Its only customary. Oh, and Little Wally will get the Chants a “parting gift TD” sometime in the 4th vs. a bunch of guys that will be seeing their only game action this season.
GAME DAY!!!!
All is right with the world again.

Hell yeah
I counted three PSU clips in the Gameday intro. I thought to myself, do Pitt fans watching that get jealous that there’s no chance in hell of a highlight of their own on there? Its the little things in life…

Postcards from Panther Football

This is what the north end zone of Heinz looked like while with the score 27-17 with 7 min left in the fourth quarter. Pitt had the ball and was driving and really could have used some crowd support. The Bowling Green fans were rowdy as hell.
Sitting there, I could not believe my eyes. Parking was almost impossible to find before the game started, and three hours later, this. Largest fair-weather fan base in sports.
I love it...
I’ll see some of you at the game. Quit my job just to go, good thing I’ve got one lined up.
Too excited.

We better totally blow them away. If it’s close at any time of the game(other than start) we have problems. I’m also ticked because if we do have a miracle year like 2005 these “cupcakes” are going to kill us at the end of the year when we’re looking for respect. But on a positive…it’s time for PSU football!
Wait wait...
…is there a game today or something?
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."

First home game I've missed in my three years as a student here
And maybe the second home game I’ve skipped in the last 6 or 7 years. Damn flu. Where can I listen to old Jonesy on the intertubes? Or, even better, does anyone know of any “free” video feeds on the web?
Hmmm. My guess on the score? 37-14. And Devlin will take some snaps in garbage time.

-Tony Hunt
I think our D will be the question this year
Our Offense looks good but I am not sure about Our D.
Blitzing
I think we’re being too aggressive. The defensive line is getting plenty of pass rush. We’re blitzing the linebackers and they’re making us pay with these screen passes.
Mike

BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Bad Call
Our LB’s have looked horrible. Can’t defend a screen or any of the checkdowns. I haven’t been all that impressed with our O-line so far either. They should really be blowing these guys off the ball.. They’ve been leaning on Royster’s awesomeness to much.
Positives: Kickoff coverage has been much better. And the whole offense looks a half step faster with Clark out there. You don’t realize how slow Morelli getting the snap, taking his steps and delivering the ball until you watch Clark. Clark actually read the field on one of his throws to Butler which I thought was incredible.
Seriously though.. the LB’ers have looked clueless.
Williams looks a half step faster this year.
they are just in bad positions, they will watch this tape many times
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
The LBs
are inexperienced, and are likely overexcited. Once they comfortable during the games, they’ll start to see more and react better. I’d rather they work these kinks out during a cupcake game than against OSU

I don't recall him ever breaking a tackle like that, he looks good this year.

That being said..
I’m happier that Bradley has been blitzing more with the LB’s, simply because I’d rather see us take a more aggressive tact on defense overall regardless of the results.
JoePA looks pissed
He does not look happy with the D
DWill
I know this has been the 84th time I’ve mentioned it on this thread, but he has NOT been going down at first contact. Last year he will be tackled by his own shoelaces. This is a HUGE positive!!

Can't see/hear the game...
…but I would guess that they want to see his throwing ability more. Based on your guys’ comments, I think Devlin probably proved himself in a game situation. They likely want to get another look at how Clark does in the pocket.

good job mixing up the QB's.
I cannot believe both these QB’s were on our team last year, what a waste.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Don't get too crazy.
It is Coastal Carolina at home.
I ain’t saying, I’m just saying.

Actually hoping for a dud on third down here
I’d like to see Kelly try a 43 yarder.

OSU lost wells
OSU might be done this year they lost your star running back
From what I saw
He went to take a ball and just feel over in pain. He could not put any weight on his foot and was carried off the field.
If he scored a TD today, maybe they will still give him the Heisman.
And can I just suggest that we all boycott Rotel.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Heading off on the cart.
Yeah, he reached for the right foot immediately. No contact. Really, really weird.

I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
yeah I just happened to switch over
it was really weird. I have never seen taht
That's what I was thinking, but...
He was reaching for the middle of his foot, not the back.

Nothing quite like...
…hearing a fired coach telling us we have no offensive rhythm, seconds before we score another TD.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."

Nice blocking by Zug on that TD
Faked a little post-type route and sealed off his guy along the goal line.

NW going a long way towards reducing Big 10 respectability..
It’s a damn home game against maybe the worst BCS coach in the business.
I thought embarassing
the conference was Michigan’s job.

PSU Basketball
Beat some team in Canada today….?
May no act of ours bring shame
We are seeing a lot of Carter
I am surpised seeing Carter used that much. I expected to more Green then anyone.
Green
Got enough touches to get his stats, but not enough so that other teams see how we plan on utilizing him. Notice that EVERY one of his runs was up the gut?
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."

Any word on Beanie Wells?
It would be a shame for him to go down so early in the season, but…

Still no word yet.
Pryor in the game, though. So, two reasons to switch over if you have DTV.

Maybin has been scary off the edge..
I wouldn’t mind seeing Odrick, Maybin, Gaines, & Evans out there on 3rd and long vs. some of our Big 10 opponents.
Pannell
is playing. How about that?

burning the redshirt. He was just a three star recruit. I remember a lot of people griping when we got his verbal.

Man Devlin looks good
I wouldn’t mind seeing a 2 qb system
It's obvious
Devlin at QB, Clark as FB.
Yes, that’s a joke.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
Devlin is polished..
I’ll give him that. But I still like Clark running this offense simply because I don’t know how you can stop our o-line with those two in the back field and 4 WR’s.. A big Nickel ain’t gonna cut it. Powell TD on the end around..
I think all of our predictions are off
Well I think all of our predictions are off. I guess I expected them to run it right up the middle every play in the 2nd 1/2
However..
I think Devlin can do an average job running the zone read, so if we went that route the offense would still function well.
How do we know
I didn’t see anything but out standard Offense, not one QB run or option type play. They both look good, I don’t think anything is solved today.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Both looked great
Can’t pick one over the other, really. Both accurate and quick.

Clark’s throw into double coverage, and Devlin overthrowing the screen pass.

Pitt vs Bowling Green
Some stats:
Lesean: 18 carries for 48 yards (2.8 avg)
Stull: 124 yds passing
Their run defense is doing the job, not much else. God I’d love to see them lose.

Wannstedt..
You can’t go wrong betting against bad coaches. He simply can’t do any better than .500.
exactly right...
doesn’t matter how many stars your players have if the coach can’t teach them anything.
I think Bowling Green might be better than expected. Pitt, clearly, is worse.
Personally
I’m real glad that we’ve had ZERO turnovers. Even in this garbage game, we aren’t getting sloppy.

Has come back out of the locker room…no pads…and a little limp.
Good to hear

Seen what I want to see..
I like both QB’s.. I like both RB’s.. The lines look fine. Beanie Wells is limping, and Wannstedt is on his way out which should result in a slight up-tick in PSU recruiting in western PA.

What an awful fan base...
Is anyone actually there? We shouldn’t play them.. We’ve almost destroyed there program.. This failure might officially end it. Then we can start hammering the West PA HS coaches with an anti-PSU bias.
No QB.. no O-line.. unimpressive group of WR's
Shaw with the TD however.. he wouldn’t have cracked our rotation.
Quick note
The word “linebacker” appears three times over 417 comments. Yeah, I thought they were pretty invisible.
Bowman played well
Big in run support. Hull looked like he knew where he should be but got blocked a lot.
WR screen.. 8 yards..
Glad to see the Michigan has learned nothing.
Zone read first down..
Throw to the flat first down.. Johnson hasn’t even begun to hurt him with his legs yet.
UM's 'awesome' D line
