Giving feedback to ESPN
I just wanted everyone to know that you can share your feeback with ESPN's obmudsman online.
Here's the deal with the ombudsman: "Ombudsman Le Anne Schreiber is the public's representative to ESPN, offering independent examination and analysis of ESPN's media outlets. The former New York Times sports editor and author will critique decision-making, coverage and presentation of news, issues and events on ESPN television and other media."
I read her fairly regularly and she seems exceedingly fair.
Anyway, we're kind of stuck with espn, so I think it makes to let them know what we think of the Outside the Lines piece and it's journalistic integrity or lack thereof.
Here's the link to give her feedback: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?id=2826900
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

Thank you for that link!
I certainly gave them a piece of my mind. I am not a Joepologist but what ESPN did to Joe really upsets me. I can not respect ESPN for providing us with a one sided piece that puts down a man like Joe Paterno and an institution like Penn State when they are two examples of how a college football program should be run, all the while glorifying USC and Pete Carroll, and OSU and Jim Tressel!!
Patiently waiting for the return of Penn State Football

The Ombudsman is Excellent
She’s great. She regulary admonishes the entire network for its failure to separate news from opinion. And, best of all, she has access to the decision-making powers there like nobody else. So, through her, we get to hear real quotes from the Producers and the EVPs of Programming and such; you know—the dbags in charge of driving this clunky machinery, and actually occasionally get a glimpse of some of the company’s atttitudes about itself, its direction and its sense of responsibility in this new media age.
Oh, and she’s also fair. I know, I know, bizarre concept, right? She also regularly gives praise for even the tiniest of improvements and for when she senses they are at least earnest in attempts to improve.
Easily the best read on that site. Now if only her column were more than monthly, and I’d love to hear from her on the print Editors.

a message from the ombudsman...
I got an email from espn in response to my complaint about the outside the lines piece. While it’s clearly a canned message, it seems promising…
A note from Le Anne:
I cannot respond personally to all the mail I receive, but I do read and take note of all complaints. When the complaints are specific to a show or to an article on espn.com, I forward them to the producer or editor in charge of that content. When there are several complaints on the same topic, I do a weekly tabulation that becomes part of a report sent to all of ESPN’s top management. (I do the same for positive comments.) I cannot assure you that your complaints or mine will result in action, but I can assure you they are not lost in some cyberspace void. They are read, thought about, disseminated.
Thank you,
Le Anne Schreiber

Spak
...nice
I smell a career here @ BSD to be the Ombudsman of the blogs. I think there’s a special trophy, or something for the position (probably the Land Grant)!
