PS Football Student Tickets Info.

So just some updated that i learned this morning.  I stopped by the BJC and checked on the status of my football tickets and was informed that they have not even gone out yet.  the first game is.... 23 days away?(from the time this post was written) and they haven't gone out!   wow!!   so say they go out the 15th, I'm originally from Georgia(i'm not) but my tickets go back there....    am i going to be able to get my tickets for the first game?    i'm gonna have to just through my ass to get them here and hope my parents are good about sending out mail!!

Another thing is with the tickets.  i'm pretty sure the system in place will be that students will no longer have paper tickets.  If you buy football tickets they will be added to the chip on your student id card and before entering into the Beav, students will swipe their ID cards and have to be the person on the ID to enter.    Not a bad idea!!   i doubt tickets will be selling out as quick and i bet virtually no branch campus students will be getting tickets since they now can't sell them for $1000.00 to a ticket broker in Nebraska.    Whats everyone think?!?

well...

first I think some of your grammar made it hard to follow your post. (but hey, you’re excited about football so i understand).

Second, August 15th is surprisingly late to mail out tickets. You should be fine as long as your parents mail them up to you as soon as they arrive in Georgia. Or, the Athletic department used to let kids come pick up the tickets at the BJC so you might want to look into that.

Third, the “new id card system” is not in place this year, but rather the same old paper tickets. Greg Myford (or however you spell his name) has said in the Collegian that they plan to have the id card system ready by the 2009 season.

"Boy that student section now is up and really making a gigantic amount of noise. You see the sea of white, the white out. Well they are 2 minutes and 28 seconds away from the whiteout of the Buckeyes here tonight." - Ron Franklin

Seriously?

“i bet virtually no branch campus students will be getting tickets since they now can’t sell them for $1000.00 to a ticket broker in Nebraska”

WTF are you talking about? There’s about 5 branch campuses within a 3 hour drive of State College. You think all those kids sell their tickets online? Wrong. Just because they’re 3 hours out of town doesn’t mean they don’t come to games. People come from all over the country for games, those tickets will sell just as quickly.

The ID system is still flawed because you still rely on your ID photo as the primary source of identification. My brother had no problem getting into games with my ID and vice versa. Women have an even easier time depending on the photo thing because of makeup and hair… It just means no one will lose their tickets and have to go to that booth to get new ones.

in response,

I imagine a higher percentage of branch campus students either sell their tickets as a package or (even more likely) sell more on a game by game basis. (*note I am NOT saying ALL branch campus kids sell their tickets, just a higher percentage. i know there are some branch kids who are hardcore fans.) I also bet there is a higher percentage of branch campus students who waste their tickets because they can’t make it up for the game, and don’t have enough time to sell it to someone else. You can’t deny that its much more of an obstacle to travel over 50 minutes to get to happy valley rather than walk down curtin road for 5 minutes.

But i do agree that the tickets will sell out just as quickly….just hopefully they are sold to students who plan on attending all 7 games.

I disagree with your view of the ID system. I believe it is WAYYY better than the current system. The purpose of implementing the system is to decrease ticket scalping. It would definitely accomplish this. Imagine you are a student wanting to sell your ticket….. do you really want to sell a stranger your id card? I sure would not. Would you really trust the random stranger to hand it back to you after the game? That id is basically your life up at psu because it gets you into buildings/computer labs/dorms, it has lion cash on it, it has meal points on it, and it can even act as a pnc debit card if you set it up as such. I would much rather just sell my ticket back at face value to the Athletic Department. Not only is that the safer decision, but also the more ethical considering you would be enabling another psu student to see a psu football game.

ID Cards

I think once they put the tickets on the ID cards there will be plenty of tickets to go around.

Which is probably why they don't want to do it.

Also Consider

Also consider the fact that students at the commonwealth campuses could be considered for dedicated then the University Park students in terms of football games. I attended PSU York for two years, and me and about 30 others would meet at the campus at about 4am and make the caravan treck up to happy vally for the games beating the incoming game traffic.

My point is, don’t make a stereotype about the students at these other campuses when if you actually broke it down, more reselling of tickets probably occurs at University Park, in fact, from personal experiences, I noticed it more at UP when I got there. It goes on everywhere, especially while I attended PSU during its worst 4 year football history ever 2001-2005 (my last year was the season BEFORE the run to the Orange Bowl)

Everyone whether at UP, York, Hazelton, Altoona, where ever, love to hear the sound of ….WE ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

exactly

i went to a branch campus and didn’t miss a single game in those two years… so to say that branch students are more likely to sell them for profit is shenanigans… think before you type please

I know I'm guilty

in the past of being a branch campus student and selling some of my tickets. But what are you gonna do if you can’t make it/afford to make it to all of the games, but you really wanna go see 3 or 4?

2008 Nittany Lion Club Priority Point Standings

To put the relative cost of student tickets in prospective, a Nittany Lion Club “point” costs $50. To be eligible to buy new season tickets this year, I beleieve you had to have over 100 Nittany Lion Club Points. So you must have donated at least $5,000 to the University just for the privilege of buying crappy tickets in the Upper Deck, at $60 buck each, plus $20 bucks to park.

Point Total Total Members in Point Range
1-50 5,393
51-100 3,722
101-150 3,821
151-200 2,801
201-250 1,439
251-300 691
301-350 522
351-400 386
401-450 280
451-500 258
501-1000 1,460
1001-1500 374
1501-2000 112
2001-2500 51
2501-3000 25
3001-3500 12
3501-4000 11
4001-4500 7
4501-5000 8
5001+ 62

The point is, buy your tickets, and use your tickets now. They get much more expensive in a few years.

Nittany Club Points

So is my understanding of the system correct? If I donate 50 bucks to my college thru the Alumni Association, that doesn’t earn me Nittany Club Points right? I have to donate directly to the Nittany Club? I need to sign up so I can get my own tickets some day…

by millzners on Aug 8, 2008 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Correct

Alumni Association donations do not count toward Nittany Lion Club Points.

You get 2 points (I think) for graduating from Penn State, another couple of points if you are a lifetime member of the alumni association, and a few more if you are a letterman. You also get one point for every year you are a member, which is $50 a year.

Nittany Lion Club members get priority on single game tickets too, but they are sold by accumulated number of points as well. I believe that only Coastal Carolina, Temple and Indiana made it to the general public single game ticket sale this year.

Well

I just plunked down $50 so hopefully I did the registration right and am an actual member. The Nittany Lion Club website is up to the usual Penn State stardard: confusing, disorganized, and featureless. I filled out the info thinking I’d get a user name and password and some stuff about “hey thanks for joining, you’re a member now and you have this many points, etc.”

All I got was a confirmation that they got their money. Nothing about membership or any of that… Booo

As confusing as the website is...

They are very helpful if you call.

Yes

Just call the NLC as the ladies there are very polite and will take care of you, even if you are very late on your donation ;-)

Word of advice

Just don’t ever delegate your season tickets to your wife. A certain friend of mine who shall remain nameless did so one year. She made the check out for the amount of the tickets, but saw the line for donation and said, “Screw them. I’m not donating anything.”

When the season was three weeks away and said friend hadn’t gotten his tickets yet he called the NLC to see what was up. They told him he didn’t have enough points because he hadn’t donated anything. He told them the check is going out today and luckily he still got his tickets.
