I received an email that had this link today. I thought I would share. Good to see Virginia and Nebraska back on the schedule, and I can't wait to make the trip to Tuscaloosa.

TBA's
I’d love to see us fill those TBA’s with a respectable oppontent perhaps Rutgers?

Rutgers has good success...
with Ray Rice… they’re fading this year. I wouldn’t expect much more out of them after this year when they lose their wideouts and the beloved (and not that great) Mike Teal.
???
Are we making a trip to Oregon St. next year? I thought this was a home and home deal.

It wasn't.

i think...
we picked up 800k and abc picked up the other 300k… i heard it from a reliable source, but don’t quote me
For the glory
that sucks
i have friends out there i was going to make a road trip for that game

ITS GONNA BE A GOOD ONE! I can’t believe how many people whined when they were thrown on the schedule.
I can't wait
to see y’all down here. I’m already preparing for the tailgate at the Alabama game :o)
For the glory
I don't get it
Why are we playing Temple for the next 4 years?
Will the real Derrick Williams please stand up?
Easy
4 games in State College, and two games in Philly to placate the eastern alumni. I wouldn’t be suprised to see that series extended into the future.

Plus
the Big Ten and MAC have a contract where every big ten team plays a MAC school each season…sometimes two. By playing temple every year, we are able to keep the payout (usually $400K to $700K) in state rather than giving it to an Ohio or Michigan school.

i was under the assumption
that we signed on for a solid 10 year agreement, to show good faith when they were getting shit on by the big east
For the glory
4 away games
I think it is odd that we only have 4 away games next year.
Good lord, that is awesome
I don’t care if it is Eastern Illinois, home games are a blast and the more the better.
Virginia
What’s our deal with scheduling them again? I guess, it’s a step up over our current slate, but why not Va Tech?
They are a beatable BCS team...
PSU must have a “family” guy in the athletic dept is my guess. Plus we left off with an embarrasing loss to them so we needed this for payback.
pinkertonpark.com - you owe yerself a laugh.
I could do without UVA on the schedule. Teams I’l like to see them explore home and homes with:
Florida
Miami
USC
Texas
Georgia
I think we should play the Dallas Cowboys.
Man I’m in a cranky mood today.

In 2014 we'll finally get our revenge for that Nebraska thing in 1994
Of course, by then we’ll be on Mars watching on our holographic TV’s.
And Joe will be yelling at the ref robots.
once isn't enough
We need to beat them like 15 times and win a MNC before it is forgotten
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Did we kick the AP Polls ass in 2002
and I missed it? What the hell did Nebraska do that screwed us besides win all their games and be good?

It is the conference jokers
that screwed us. JoeBob in Ohio and Michigan voting Nebraska ahead of us in the polls. F-ing bastiches.

yep. every time this comes up
this is the link

This is why I'm rooting for USC this weekend.
At the end of the day, when you can’t decide, remember the ’94 vote maps.
TBA in 2009
Is that game set in stone as a home game? I wouldn’t mind it being an away game if we can get a decent opponent for it…say VA Tech or maybe one of the FLA teams. If it is set in stone as a home I see it as a another cupcake which we don’t need. I doubt we can get lucky and have another Oregon St come into town for a one and done deal.
i figured...
Next years schedule is going to be pitiful. It’s a sad state when Syracuse is the cream of the crop of your non-con. And actually depending on who becomes TBA, Temple or TBA could be considered the top foe.
And I said VT just because it seems like people want to play them. I’m ok with WVU too. Actually I’m for anybody with a pulse. Give me Clemson, Missouri, Kentucky, Arizona St. Anybody whose been at least decent in the last 5-10 years.
Why does everyone always think we should play
VT? How about WVU?
JoePa in '09
Because
I want to kick VT’s a$$. I don’t know why, I just do…maybe the high rankings they receive for strolling through a weak conference.

My dream...........
would be to see the Chik-Fil-A comimttee round up PSU for their kick off game in the Georgia Dome with an SEC team.
They are planning on making that Labor Day weekend game a 3 or 4 day event where you have a game on Thursday Night……Friday night you have a high profile HS game at the Dome like Massilon, Oh. vs. Some Florida HS……..then throw in a concert…….tailgating all day inCentennial Olympic Park and then the finale Saturday day night in the dome with another big time college game. God that would be fun.

When's the last time we played on the West Coast
There’s only like a million alums out here who would definitely make it worth the trip. It’d be nice the the AD would throw us a bone. At many pac-10 stadiums we’d outnumber the fans if they let us.
sigh Odds of me ever seeing Joe again are declining.

Hop a flight to the Midwest
You have 10 chances remaining to see Joe, nine after tomorrow.

I remember
playing USC in the mid-to-late ’90’s but don’t think we played them in there… my guess would be the last time PSU played on the West Coast would have been the ’94 Rose Bowl… i could be wrong…
anyway, maybe we’ll get to play on the West Coast at the end of this season and you’ll get to see Joe.
Yes that's true
What with work and life and everything a weekend trip to State College is pretty much impossible. Just ask Oregon state what it takes out of you. A short flight to LA would work just fine.
It’s obviously wishful thinking but a UW v PSU ala OSU v USC series would be so sweet. Except we’d actually win.
I’d rather we ended this season in Miami anyway :-)
Politics is the opiate of the masses. - me
The last non-con games west of the Mississippi not in a Bowl game.
2003 Nebraska
1996 USC
1992 BYU
1991 USC
1990 USC
1989 Texas
I know having the biggest stadium in the country precludes us from scheduling away games, but I say we should get this show on the road. PSU fans travel well, the games are fun, and we get more respect from the press provided we win. Let’s go!
Cupcake Payday
With the increasing demands of Cupcakes for money and home and homes (Miami OH is now demanding home and homes with B10 teams) is it about time the B10 put all 10 teams on the scheudle?
2 Non-conference games, then play everyone in the B10.
Then we'd never see any good OOC games
Not to mention the consequences of the naysayers. The Big 10 is already considered weak and with no OOC games against BCS teams we’d really have no way to prove otherwise until the bowls.
by Screen Name 20 on Sep 12, 2008 7:54 AM EDT up reply actions
I think it'd be just the opposite
You would still have to play a tough OOC game or two. It would be the end of the cupcakes.
And when is the last time PSU had a good OOC game anyway? The teams they play that are supposed to be good have been horrid.
Like All Things......
this cupckae for a payday stuff will end sooner or later. The more grief the schools get for doing this (which seems to increase each year) the less likely they are to do it.
As I mentioned above……..Nick Saban and Tommy Tuberville said they actually signed up for the Chick-Fil-A Kick Off Classic because 1) each school was paid 2 million 2) They thought it would be great for recruiting as you are on the big stage right away and 3) Having a touch game to start off the season helped them focus in the off season because they knew they were going to have 3 scrimmages. Once a few teams start taking advantage of what playing a tough schedule does more will follow, just like they did when somebody started scheduling powder puffs.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
Jesus.....
that was supposed to say Tough, not touch, and “weren’t going to have” instead of “were going to have”.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
PSU needs 7 home games
Well, we don’t need 7, but that’s what we’re told b/c that’s what the accountants want. 10 games in conferences means 5 home games, which means the other 2 would be OOC paydates at State College to get to our mandatory 7. When we played 11 games, we always played 6 home games. Right or wrong, with the expansion of the schedule came the expansion of our home game scheduling.
by Screen Name 20 on Sep 12, 2008 10:29 AM EDT up reply actions
It's not even 7 home games they need
They need 7 home games one year and 8 the next. That’s where the hiccup comes in scheduling home and home series with teams.
"I honestly think the "Spread HD" is going to work pretty well, and we’ll be just fine this year". - 8-27-2008
Yeah I don't understand the 8 home games
Back when we played 11 games a year (not counting bowl games) there were very few times we played 7. Actually, only 3 from 1980-2000 (and two of those years where ’82 and ’86)
by Screen Name 20 on Sep 12, 2008 10:47 AM EDT up reply actions
The other solution
Get a basketball team that can bring in $5-6 million a year to take some pressure off the football team to play 7 or 8 home games.
Playing 10 conference games would absolutely kill the OOC schedule. We would be forced to sign teams willing to come to Penn State for a paycheck without a home game in return. The alternative is to cut some of the 28 other men and womens athletic teams that the football supports. But that’s never a popular decision.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
I've been telling everyone
to just to go BBall games for the sake of the both the Basketball and the Football team.
The 7th/8th Home Game Won't Matter
Once a new head coach is hired. He will have such a huge raise over JoePa that the football team won’t be supporting athletics anymore.
Good OOC Games
2006 Notre Dame (10-3)
2004 Boston College (9-3)
2003 Boston College (8-5)
2003 Nebraska (10-3)
2001 Miami (12-0)
2000 Toledo (10-1)
1999 Miami (9-4)
The real question is not when will play a tough OOC opponent, rather, when will start beating tough OOC opponents.
"I honestly think the "Spread HD" is going to work pretty well, and we’ll be just fine this year". - 8-27-2008
Notice
That our two best seasons, 2002 and 2005, were seasons where we did not play a quality OOC opponent.

I don't care if Toledo went 10-1
They’re not a quality OOC opponent
I bleed Blue and White.

I don't know about that.
Seeing as they kicked our ass in our own stadium. That was no fluke, Toledo would have beaten us 10 out 10 that year. That is sufficient in my book.
That’s like Michigan saying Appalacian State wasn’t a quality opponent.
"I honestly think the "Spread HD" is going to work pretty well, and we’ll be just fine this year". - 8-27-2008
Hey now...
that’s my alma mater!
In all seriously, I agree that Toledo wouldn’t be my first choice in OOC opponents but PSU could do a lot worse and does a majority of the time.
They will never be invited back
They violated the sacrificial lamb code.
But that was a good football team they had that year.

I wonder
How many of the current D-1 schools has Joe defeated? (which has just motivated me to do an hours worth of research on this) Obviously some of the newer ones he hasn’t played, and many of the teams in the west has hasn’t even faced. We should try to schedule some of the teams he’s never faced. Kind of like that guy who has seen all of the D-1 teams in action but with a victory tour type of spin on it.
Try this...
I’m too lazy to tabulate but here’s a start…

Yeah I've seen that site
Pretty cool to see everything broken down. Wikipedia is good for many things, so I searched and quickly found a season-by-season breakdown, and I started with 1966. I’m half done, I’ll post the results soon. Its interesting stuff.
Whoops...
Forgot to filter for Joe Pa….try this.

I remember doing this a few years ago.
I can’t find the list, but I remember Oregon State was on it at the time.
The one’s that stick out in my memory were Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Utah, and North Carolina.
Wait
I only count 7 Big(11) Ten games in 2010, they lost Minnesota for the one year, or is that the “open” game?
ESPN just reported
that Nebraska and Miami just agreed to a 2014-2015 home-and-home… I have to admit, that’s pretty ballsy if they’re going to play PSU and Miami two years in a row.
