Paterno probably though they were too flashy. Great photo, it is too bad Syracuse moved indoors.

Hopefully more populous than Syracuse fans (like at the Temple game last year)!

Their leading reeceiver
has 78 rec. yds so far? I knew they were bad, but wow. At least it appears their rushing game has a pulse. Problem is, you have to be able to pass to give the run game a chance.
My Big Least/Pitt backer buddy told me last night that this is a trap game for PSU. I told him that “said trapping team” has to have at least a tiny shot at winning the game. He nodded his head as if that was correct. Not to get cocky…because its burned me before…but not a goddarn chance.

Very true
What do you think the over/under for 100 yard rushers for PSU is? I’m setting the line at 2.5 and taking the over, personally.

I'll give Syracuse some credit they don't deserve
and say only 2. Joe will be throwing in kids out of the stands by the 3nd of the 3rd q, so only Royster and Green will be able to rack up 100+. But I do think we’ll gain 550-600 yds of offense.

The World Wide Leader
I know they must feel obligated to back up their OTL piece whenever possible, but this is getting old. Here’s the title of the PSU-Syracuse preview:
“Distractions not keeping PSU from performing well on the field”
You would think that ESPN could come up with something a little better, I dunno, like possibly about how this used to be a pretty damn big rivalry? About how these two teams are two of the traditional East Coast powers?
Nope, expecting way too much, and more importantly…expecting a lot more of the same to come.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."

Anyone watching the Maryland-Cal game just see that guy PUKE on the field?
Cal WR missed the catch and got tattooed. The camera crew zoomed in on him laying on the field while the trainers were working on him, only to show him puke up green stuff all over the field. Now THAT’S a slobber-knocker!
I bleed Blue and White.

and although i love a good blowout, it almost got boring watching them score over and over again. It was like I still wasn’t satisfied, and wanted to see something more dramatic like someone blow fireworks out of their ass as they crossed the goal line!!
Boy would I love to have that feeling again today. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Carrier Dome/Camera
I feel like I am watching a high school football game. The camera, even with HDTV, seems so constrained, the turf like that at an indoor driving range I go to, etc. The Carrier Dome is a fantastic venue for basketball (been to a handful of ‘cuse-’nova Big East clashes), but for football, is crappy.
by MainLion on Sep 13, 2008 3:45 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah. That artificial turf looks tired and shabby.

Hope it doesn't cause any injuries
by Dr Screenpass on Sep 13, 2008 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Injuries
The turn should be safe enough. It looks a lot like the crap I played soccer on back in high school. When guys make tight turns, you can see the rubber pellets that form the base get kicked up into the air. But, assuming it’s a decent base, there’s a ton of cushioning to give the impression you’re running on well-watered grass. But, it has nothing on a natural turf field.

You’re telling me that if SU was up 35-3, they wouldn’t try for another 6/7? Bullshit.

I realize well past the PSU game.....
….however, I need to ask, why must we constantly apologize for Ohio State? As a Memeber of the Big Ten School, I spend 3/4 of my time trying to explain away the most recent Ohio State failure to show up on a nationally televised game. As I write this, Ohio State is down 21-3 before halftime. Now I have to put up with the USC and SEC idiots and their “Big Tean can’t match up with warm-weather teams” arguement.

I was (and still am) hugely pulling for tOSU for the mere fact that an OSU win and (God forbid!) a PSU win over OSU would vault PSU near the top. Now, if PSU beats OSU, there’s the “well, yeah, you won, but…” talk followed by whether tOSU was not as good as their rank, if they’re overrated, if it’s not a big deal, etc. If nothing else, tOSU needs to keep it respectable.
As for USC, I cannot stand them—not because they’re good (they really are), but the damn sideshow (oh, look, it’s the Hollywood subway alumni who like the fashionable colors and like to be seen there!) and the talk that Pete Carroll is a genius. With respect to Pete, winning breeds good recruiting, and it’s a cycle. You give Syracuse’s coach that much talent, and he could likely win 9-10 a season (am I assuming too much?). But, in seriousness, he’s a good baby-sitter for a ton of talent. Give him Iowa’s roster and see how much of a genius he is. He’ll do as well as he did with the Patriots way back when.

Would Somebody Just Say It....
USC…..40 million f’ing people in the state and only one school plays football. They should be in the Title game every year and yet somehow they are not. Plus they get to cherry pick whoever they want from the rest of the country and they still don’t win it every year. F em. I’m not impressed.

In these instances
when one of our teams is playing against a team from another conference, I tend to cheer for our conference. But in the case of Ohio State, I’m increasingly finding myself thinking “Screw them”. Screw them for constantly showing up in big games against other Big Ten opponents, yet somehow inexplicably shitting the bed when the time comes to represent the conference. Screw Boeckman for playing the best game of his life against us last season, while transforming into a freshman on the first day of class during this game. The Sweater Vest can also kiss my ass. OSU is averaging what, 15 yards per play whenever Pryor is in, yet on 3rd and long SV leaves Boeckman in.
The conference teams give us no respect and no support and never have since we joined the Big Ten. So in my bitterness, I refuse to waste much breath on defending the atrocious play of some of our “best” teams when they get treated like the house whore.
That said, there have been some suspect calls against OSU. And I would like to see how USC would do at the ’shoe in November, not sunny So Cal in September.

Yeah...
I’ve been all about the Big Ten and conference respect. But, f—- that. We take care of our business and we’ll be fine. I hate Ohio State passionately. I’m not going to cheer for them. If we go 12-0, we’ll be in the title game. West Virginia would have been in the title game if they didn’t choke against Pitt last year, and that was with a loss in the friggin Big East.
I like that we’re in teh Big Ten, but f—- em all, LETS GO STATE!!!

Agreed
I know when it comes to the big ten that you’re supposed to root for the conference. I have no problem rooting for anyone else in conference except OSU. I can’t stand them with a passion. The team, the vest, and watching them get their doors blown in and exposed for the frauds they are made me a very very happy man. I know that this takes away the sweetness of a potential PSU win against them.
I’m sick and tired of them getting into big bowl games and then laying a fat egg. I’ve gotten into arguements with OSU fans over that. I keep telling them look, we have gone to 3 straight bowl games and taken care of business each time (FSU, Tenn, Tex A&M). I don’t care if its not Florida or LSU, its a bowl game and we show the f up for the games.
With that being said, the team right now that looks the best in the Big Ten resides in Happy Valley. We’ve taken care of business each game, and really shown that we are a force. I’m sick of seeing the low rankings. Maybe now we can get a little more respect.

But, there was that injury situation....
jaOss (just another Ohio state school) was at a distinct disadvantage since Lauranitus wasn’t injured & played the whole game. :)

I'm Alive!!!!
To those wondering, Ike came and passed and I’m doing fine. I thought the roof was going to come off the house in the middle of the night, but it held up just fine. We’ve been without power from 10 PM last night until 6 PM today, so I did not get to see the game. And not only that, I’m missing the USC beatdown on OSU because the local ABC affiliate is dedicated to hurricane coverage.
We were very fortunate to make it through this will just minor inconveniences. There were many people, including friends of mine, who were not so lucky. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear that you are safe!
Doubly glad that your place held up fine. In the grand scheme of things the game is pretty meaningless – however you didn’t miss too much by not seeing the game. No injuries, and minus a pair of turnovers it was a solid B+ from all three squads to win the game.

It smells like Wisconsin may or may not have s—t the bed. (No, it’s not Purdue. Theirs is in the corner).

And a terrible call by WAC (homer) officials....
Fresno clearly caught a pass and fumbled. On review, they ruled it incomplete. This is as bad as Big10-terrible officiating. I guess suck is suck everywhere, though.

So what happens when we roll
into Columbus and face a full strength Buckeye team – with Chris “I refuse to call him by his lame-ass nickname” Wells. They are obviously a different team with him. I also see Pryor taking a larger role in the O.
Until we play a team not on life support – I am tempering my expectation for PSU. I can only hope we do our part in exposing OSU as poseurs.
