This is not good news

and is definitely not a good time for the siren. I am officially disputing it’s use in this instance.

Breaking news is breaking news

The siren knows not the difference between good and evil.

Thanks for clarifying

The times I remember seeing it most recently were when we got recruits during the offseason.

Also, what happened to the “grading the defense” from the Syracuse game? Did I somehow miss it?

grading the defense

Other than shutting down Syracuse’s halfway descent running game, the cheerleaders probably could have defended against Syracuse, so it may not be worth it.

Actually

We all had issues in watching the game last week and this has been a crazy week for all of us. I don’t see the point in going back and doing one at this point. We’ll definitely grade all the units for the Temple game though.

Once it got past Wednesday...

…I gave up on the defensive grades this week. It’s my fault. But I was busy and Mike had a hurricane. And Kevin was off banging Guatemalan hookers.

I'm a sucker for Guatemalans.

Plus with the conversion rate of the USD to the Quetzal, you’d be a fool not to buy Guatemalan goods right now.

Joe last year

I will be shocked if this is not his last year for multiple reasons.

1 – He and Spanier hate each other.
2 – As RUTS pointed out, there is no goodwill left and it’s been a power struggle in SC.
3 – Health, Joe Pa is in his 80’s…what more do you want from the guy? When you get injured you don’t bounce back and I firmly believe he was close to checking out last winter w/ the flu.
4 – Al Golden, he is proving to be our best option moving forward. Look beyond the record, he is a PSU guy with great experience. He will help carry on the PSU tradition but also bring some freshness to a stale program, a great recruiter, and restore order. Al’s a big, strong, young guy…he can kick some tail if needed but also relate.

I think Spanier know all this and will make the change this Jan

Al Golden is the man of the moment

I really hope they stay within the program with Bradley, then all the coaches will stay the same. Hell, I am even happy with Jaypa, if we stick with the spread he seems to do a good job. And we know most of the assistants can recruit so with some stability at HC and a good year on the field we should do well going forward.

I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?

"I am even happy with JayPa"

First time I’ve ever read those words, nevermind in this context.

I'm happy with the winning

But am verrry reluctant to give Jay credit just yet. The ‘05 team looked good in spite of him, and I’m not ready to give him a trophy of approval just yet. 3 wins ago we knew that he had been burying offenses for the past decade. History doesn’t lie.

excuse me

I just threw up in my mouth….ok I am better.

I don’t think Jay is a bad guy but he is not the answer @ PSU. Golden or someone else who is young, proven recruiter, and has experience not working for their dad. Who knows, Jay might be the next great offensive mind but you don’t hand over the keys to kingdom for 1-2 years of good offensive work.

Golden was DC at UVA when they were good, great recruiter, and now turning around Temple…Temple was horrible.

I hate to admit it but

I seem to like JayPa now. I mean this could change in the middle of the season but he running an offense that I think we can win with. I am happy to see he has opened up the playbook. I will wait til after the Ohio State game to see if I still feel that way. I really think the Wisc and the Ohio State game will tell us a lot. If we are able to win or our Offense looks good I see JayPa being in the running. If we get blown out and/or our Offense goes back to what it looked like a few years ago (3 yards and a cloud of dust) I think JayPa will not be back at PSU next year.

Don't let a little success in 1 season go to your head

JayPa would be a disaster as a HC. We would consistntly get outworked on the recruiting trail, on the sideline, and on the practice field. JayPa was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth and doesn’t know how to outwork his competition because he’s never known true competition.

Remember, this is the same guy that has a hard time returning phone calls to recruits and consistantly screws up recruiting visits.

injury

I didn’t realize he got injured before Coastal Carolina, but it does sound minor, but its best not to aggrivate injuries like that. Of course according to that its possible he might be on the field, who knows. Never underestimate JoePa.

btw, I’ve always been curious about this: does JoePa get credit for games he’s not on the field coaching? Technically he’s still the head coach, and still there coaching his team, but just not on the sidelines. I wondered that in 06 too, but never heard a definitive answer.

he gets credit

even when he didn’t make it to the stadium, it was still his team so he got credit for the win.

you

people are chugging the peachy paterno kool-aid. wait till the conference schedule begins before telling each other how great we are, please.

and before you make JAY-POO out to be a genius, think where last years team would have been with Clarke instead of whats-his-name. don’t get me started.

Get a grip.

about grading the defense

If you need a replay of the Cuse game Mike, espn360.com has the entire feed. I am stuck down here in MD and was subjected to the GaTech VaTech feed instead. Thank God for ESPN360. Too bad they dont steal from the BTN.

Of course

Joe is on the sideline looking good. So nevermind, I guess.
