I wouldn't call it SEC woes
Out of 12 teams, only Tennessee and Miss State lost. The Big 10 had 3 teams lose and 1 that didn’t play. I think Tenn just overlooked UCLA going with a 15th string qb.

no excuses for Tenn
SEC did have a good weekend, but I don’t know if the ‘overlook’ line works here, UCLA did everything they could to give the game away in the first half and Tenn simply couldn’t take advantage. I mean four ints in the first half? And that backbreaking pick-6 as the end of the 2nd quarter.
Tenn was a trendy ‘under the radar’ pick but I think they have a lot of things they need to figure out.

Made me think of your Pac-10 home records post
It makes me wonder if the Pac-10 enjoys a historical advantage over all teams that have to fly 4-5 hours out west for nonconference road games, rather than the trend being relegated to Big 10 teams alone. I remember watching Tennessee self-destruct last year against Cal as well, but then again, maybe this says more about Coach Fulmer than west coast trips.

Yeah..
I have to disagree with the SEC sh*tting the bed, it seemed like that was taken care of by the ACC and Big East. Which is funny, just not as funny as seeing the SEC fall. If anything, ’Bama’s win made the whole conference look unstoppable. And we (big ten) didn’t look great either. The next few weeks will show where each conference stands.

Rankings
(I should have titled it a bit more precisely) but my loathing for these two conferences obviously blurrs some of my sensibility!
“Preseason” rankings: I felt Clemson was over ranked and Alabama under-ranked (both I felt were about equal coming in @ #22/23). Good win for Alabama / bad loss Clemson.
UT was over-ranked (again), and as Kevin states are just that trendy pick.
Basically, when a ranked sec team loses, I LIKE TO CATEGORIZE the loss as “sec”. The UCLA upset win over UT was bigger than Alabama win over Clemson…to me they do not balance out.

I not saying
that the Tenn lose was anything but a disaster, I am just saying that the SEC as a whole did not have a “woeful” weekend. It was actually quite good. Besides, it isn’t the other 11 teams fault that Porky Pig’s team is always overrated….

Big Ten looked
worse that the SEC….we didn’t have any wins of the likes of Bama over clemson….illinois got worked by mizzou, mich st (some people say a sleeper) lost to a very sub par Cal Team, Michigan lost to Utah….i hate scUM but losing to Utah at home is not good, and Minnesota should have lost to Northern Illinois. So before we go jumping on other conferences esspecially the SEC, we (the Big ten) have some work to do.
The ACC looked awful, va tech losing to ECU and clemson getting housed by the 5th or 6th best team in the SEC did not look good for the ACC.

Don't forget
UNC barely held on against McNeese State and NC State looked horrible against S. Carolina.
