Nobody Told Me It Was Opposite Day
A review of the PSU offense will be up early this afternoon. In the meantime...David Jones, seeing shades of 1994? After a game against Coastal Carolina? I mentioned a day or two ago that we might be seeing a lot of weird, high scoring games this season, but Jones takes it to a whole 'nother level:
"I think you're going to see some awfully fun football this year, a few nutty 42-35 type games and some crazy, pinball finishes.
Conclusion: Penn State has a shot to win this thing. Not a great shot. But a shot. You can't ask for more with a rookie quarterback.
Has Mr. Glass Half-Empty tossed his cookies? Hear me out.
I am of the opinion that, in college football these days, defense doesn't keep you in games by itself. You're always in games when your quarterback, offensive line and skill players believe they can score on anybody. And if Clark progresses as I think he will, I see no weaknesses on this offense. It is clearly the strength of the team.
I think the Illinois and Purdue games will make this plain. And by the time the trip to Columbus arrives on Oct. 25, I think Paterno will have had no choice than to embrace a damn-the-torpedoes mind-set."
I suppose I can see the logic Jones is using here, but...

Jones Might Be Right
But I am not ready to agree just yet. I want to see how Clark runs before I get all gushy about the offense. If Clark can deliver with his legs and his arm, Jones’ scenario of shootouts might come true. This is especially true if teams are more proficient on offense than Coastal Carolina…we’ll find out on Saturday.

Kool-Aid
I for one have been drinking the kool-aid all freaking morning. I’m sitting at my cube – looking at the schedule – and working out all types of scenarios in my head that will have us undefeated at Ohio State on October 25th for the biggest game ever. I know that all types of shit could happen between then and now. But it looks like our offense is so deep, so nasty, that we can keep up with anyone. I know, I know, one game against a shit school with unproven QBs .. damnt.. just let me have this today..

Kool-Aid
I have a hunch we might be even more pumped on Saturday night after Clark and the offense roll out the real offense and the defense clamps down on OSU’s mistakes.

Must admit
I’m feeling pretty good after this weekend, but I’m trying to keep it under control. There are still a lot of questions on defense. This week will tell us a lot. If we can hold a team like Oregon State under 20 points I think the sky is the limit for this team.

I just hope
The Kool-Aid doesn’t make me throw up like last year.
Will the real Derrick Williams please stand up?

I like a close
hard fought game – even if PSU comes up on the flip side (ok not so much)…
buuuut winning every game 66-10 would be exciting as well.
Maybe I’ll skip beer this weekend and drink blue kool-aid instead – ok, probably not (unless – how does vodka and blueberry koolaid taste?).

Amazing
Even when Jones actually writes a optimistic piece about Penn State (this is probably his second in his lifetime) I still think he’s completely wrong. No way Penn State beats OSU in the shoe, No… way…. just get it out of your heads now, ain’t gonna happen. Michigan?! Really!?!? You mean the team that has beaten Penn State 15,678 times in a row?!?! Prove it – until they can I’ll never pick Penn State.

this is a funny turn-around

Michigan
I would bet my dick and one ball we beat the everliving shit out of Michigan. There team sucks so so so so bad this year. I know in years past I thought we had it – but this year we do. We have them at home – at 6pm – no offense ever what so ever. None. They should have a pretty stout D – but I think we can hang enough and make enough plays to win. We will pull it out. It will be glorious.

Careful
I made the same bet in 2005. Never, ever, ever underestimate JoePa’s ability to throw out the playbook at the last minute.

That could be a poll question before the game
“Would you give your left nut to beat Michigan?”
Yes, yes I would.

How to collect said dick and ball....
Now if I take that bet, would I get them in a jar with formaldehyde?
Or do I have to cut them off myself? If so, then maybe I’ll just bet you a beer or something less, uh, gruesome.

One great point
I am of the opinion that, in college football these days, defense doesn’t keep you in games by itself.
I’ve been saying this the past two years. We aren’t going to win games playing the way we have in games like Michigan last year. With the spread offenses and everything else, defenses are going to give up some yards. The offense has to be able to step it up.
