Our ranking
is very cemented at this point it looks like. We have huge gaps to close to move to 5th but we are far away from 7th.
PS, any word on Scirotto?

At this point
the rankings on the top 5ish aren’t going to change much unless teams in front of us lose.

we have a tough schedule in October...
It is possible that if someone squeaks one out and we jump all over Wisconsin or Ohio State the way Alabama jumped on Georgia we could leapfrog someone in the polls. (but you are probably right, we are stuck there without a loss above.)
The pollsters are usually PSU haters, so if we win ugly it wouldn’t suprise me if we dropped a spot or two. I honestly thought we would only climb to #8.

not to mentions 12 championship game
And looking at the SEC sched i’ll be rooting for Texas over Oklahoma, Mizzou over Texas, and then Mizzou to lose in the championship game.
And hope LSU loses in the weeks leading up to the Bama game and then beats Bama.

Jordan
how about Jordan Norwood? totally missed him on the field yesterday. hope he’s doing okay
and the rankings look neat. kinda shocked that USC didn’t fall out of the top 10?!

Norwood
I heard on the radio after the game he had a hamstring injury during the week.
"Boy that student section now is up and really making a gigantic amount of noise. You see the sea of white, the white out. Well they are 2 minutes and 28 seconds away from the whiteout of the Buckeyes here tonight." - Ron Franklin

I hope he's alright
But what a freaking day for DWill. He was starting to look like he was sort of doomed to mediocrity this year after the successes of Norwood and Butler, but he made up for that BIG yesterday. He looked amazing.

This is great
We don’t completely control our own destiny, but I would say it’s almost guaranteed if we win out we’ll play for the BCS. Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri all have to play each other. LSU and Alabama have to play each other and the chances of any team coming out of the SEC undefeated are almost impossible. We’re in the driver seat as far as I’m concerned.

I was just typing that....
I agree 100%. We control our own destiny. I love bigtime college football and we are as good as anyone in the nation right now.
One week at a time. With the leaders on this team….DC, AQ, D-Will, Gaines….this team will be focused every week. DC’s post game interview was very impressive. He is a beast. I will admit I was wrong about wanting Devlin to start.
Welcome to the party D-Will. He stepped up when PSU needed him the most.
Pat Devlin in '08, er, '09

The great thing is..
that I believe that Devlin is the real deal too. As JoePa said, “that boy can flat out play”.
I think we would still be 5-0 if Devlin had started the first five. Great to have choices, huh?
I needed a season like this! If anyone wakes me up from this dream I am going to kick your ass!
by Lovethosefreakinnittanylions on Sep 28, 2008 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The main thing difference
with Clark they have to game plan different then they do against Devlin. I understand that Devlin can pass and he is probably moble. I am just not sure if he is as much as a dual threat that Clark is. I still feel that we would have won with Devlin. I just like that Clark gives D something else to look at. Reminds me a lot of M-Rob.

of course
we do have to play our 2 toughest games away, in 2 of the most hostile stadiums in the big 10, if not in the country. I still think we have a shot, and can’t wait, though!
by The JuggerNitt on Sep 28, 2008 4:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Essentially
There are two remaining groups from which only one team can emerge undefeated.
Big 12: Texas, Oklahoma, Mizzou, Texas Tech
SEC: Alabama, LSU
I do not think we would pass an undefeated champion from either league because a) national perception of the Big Ten is poor, b) we started ranked much lower than many of those teams, and c) both of those groups play a late-season conference title game which voters will look kindly on.
So, the question is whether both of those groups will produce an undefeated champion and pigeonhole us out. Odds are low, especially for the SEC, but we should definitely be rooting for upsets the next few weeks. The worst case scenario is that Alabama and Oklahoma are much better than the rest of their conferences and both run the table.

last season
Honestly our offensive success so far this year just make me wish even more that Joe would have put Clark in last year, when I had a lot more faith in our defense.
by MoaRider on Sep 28, 2008 4:21 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Cautiously optimistic
I’m extremely excited at the possibilities as well, especially with how Darryl Clark and the entire offense has been playing. But I think we’re letting the national spotlight and extra attention get to us a bit. We have the ability to compete for a BCS championship, let alone a Big 10 title. However, many things need to be corrected. The way the defense played last night still gives me plenty of concern for one game and one game only: Ohio State. Wisconsin is overrated. Many of us had alluded to this prior to the season and Saturday’s game just exposed them. The way our defense had trouble stopping the run and containing “The Juice,” however, significantly shakes my faith at an undefeated season. Penn State came out with the W, but unless the defense becomes increasingly stalwart against the run and generally plays faster, PSU is going to face more trouble. A healthy Chris Wells and Terrelle Pryor combo could really hurt PSU. We still have 3 games to go before that point (at which point I think we’ll be undefeated), but the defense really needs to step up. The offense is great, but there is always room for improvement. Alot of points were left on the field. I really think that we should have had at least 48 points last night. But that’s just me. Great things can happen, but the team needs to stay focused on every game and play as if the BCS championship is on the line. Because in reality, it is.

Very true - but...
note that by the end of the season Astorino “most likely” will have had a ton of PT…

To add
Lynn should bring a lot of talent. There will be a void but I’m optimistic that the team can put together a decent unit next year. It’s also one of the easiest positions to fill with freshman.

Agreed
I was also going to comment on Lynn…wasn’t 100% positive that he played yet, but thought he did in one of the first 2 games. IF he did and the red-shirt has been pulled off, his reps would definatley help make the 2’ndary look even better in ’09!

And
Wallace returns. So we’ll have Wallace and Astorino. Timmons should get a shot at starting. Hopefully Nick Sukay can get healthy. Otherwise Chaz Powell may move back to safety.
No doubt we’ll have holes to fill. But the good news is we have some good athletes to fill them. But they will have to be coached up a bit.

some of these ballots are amazing
I mean 15 Wiscy, 16 FLA, 17 PSU? Or the sheer number of people who ranked USC several spots ahead of PSU. What the hell is the point of the games if these guys don’t actually factor them into their rankings?
Kevin @ Black Shoe Diaries
by Kevin HD on Sep 28, 2008 6:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’ve thought for a while that they should take the outlier votes out of the equation. So each team loses their highest vote and lowest vote. It might make the poll a little bit more even.
You can tell what games most of those guys watched. And yes, some of them are p!ss poor.

Thats a really good idea
Doesn’t really matter though, the AP isn’t part of the BCS

Forget the ranking!
Who saw the “SLOW WAVE” and then maybe the FASTEST wave in Beaver Stadium history? It was like everyone forgot there was a game going on for about 5 minutes.

that Wave was the best thing ever
I think everyone forgot about the game. I am trying to find a youtube video or a video of it. I don’t think I have ever seen a crowd that was in awwww over a wave. I also liked the yaaaahhhh and then the booooo when it went past the ILL section. It also went with wave. Really fast and Really slow.
by jetskijoe on Sep 28, 2008 6:43 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It just kept on going around
I didn’t count how many times the wave went around but it had to be 8 or 10, the fast wave made a lap in about 10 seconds. It was hillarious, and as you said a real quick Boo past the orange.
Keep it in perspective

BEST. WAVE. EVER.
EVER!
Also, proably the best fan experience I have ever experienced live at Beaver Stadium. Between the waves, CCR “Have you ever seen the rain”, and the awesomeness that is the White Out, it was just amazing.
I bleed Blue and White.

Ohio State
Hopefully you guys can keep winning. It should be a great game when Penn State comes to Columbus! I’d like all teams to be playing their best when they play OSU.
Of course, Wisconsin could have been a Top 10 team too, but it turns out they can’t chase down Steven Threet.

clark injury?
Any word on Darryl Clark? He left the game late in the 4th, Devlin took over and finished. Clark was helped off but no word on whether he was shaken up or more.

Actually
Clark finished the game. Devlin was in for one play I think. Clark is fine.

He's fine
Looked like a charlie horse or something. He shook it off and was telling the coaches he was good to go.
