Everyone else: "Just stop"

Some very nice press from Stewart Mandel on the white out (link below). as well as comments on PSU being the best of the Big Ten so far.

Article states what anyone who was in the stadium Saturday night already knows - that PSU's White Out is truly something to behold in person.  And that everyone else's just isn't as good.  But we already knew that, didn't we?  Love the jokes about Georgia's 'black out' being a funeral, too.

“Even seeing it for a third time, it was impossible not to be awed by the visual grandeur of Penn State’s "White Out,” which manages to turn a 110,000-seat stadium one enormous flashbulb."

-real sweet

"Boy that student section now is up and really making a gigantic amount of noise. You see the sea of white, the white out. Well they are 2 minutes and 28 seconds away from the whiteout of the Buckeyes here tonight." - Ron Franklin

But. . .But. . .

Haven’t we only turned the whole stadium white two times now? How’s Stewie seen it three times?

Correct me if I'm wrong...
PSU – Notre Dame ’07
PSU – Ohio State ’07
PSU – Illinois ’08

My favorite story that he brings up from time to time is that the first game he attended as a reporter was the PSU-Arizona preseason game in ’99. He expected that he could get a hotel and parking space near the stadium, only to learn that he had to drive in super-early after scrambling for a hotel in Harrisburg.

Not sure. . .

I was at all three of those, and I’m pretty sure that OSU last year was not a stadium-wide whiteout. There were a lot of people wearing white still because of how cool the ND game was, but it didn’t look nearly the same as ND or last weekend.

by The IC Lion on Sep 28, 2008 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

you're correct,

OSU last year was not a stadium wide ‘white out’ just students. the first “white house” was nd last year, and Illinois was the only official stadium wide white out. every other was simply a student white out

For the glory

He must be impressed.

Wasn’t that a stadium wide white out too? I’ve got pictures somewhere….

no it was not

I was a freshman that year. I actually think they originally wanted a stadium wide white out because i remember reading several articles saying everyone wear white, but then come two days before the game they sort of backed off and just did a student whiteout.

If the whole stadium ...

minus a few thousand scattered knuckleheads wear white it wouldn’t be an official “White Out/House”, but wouldn’t it have the same visual impact?

If OSU in ‘05 wasn’t “official”, then the laypeople did a fine job deciding to wear white rather than Blue, Red, Orange, Green, Purple, Black, Turquoise, Periwinkle.

Even I can figure out my clothing situation every now and then when my wife isn’t around to help me.

There is no way you can tell me the osu game in ’05 had a lot of alums wearing white. Go back to the video such as this one : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjJ86bKIUA8 (jump to around 6:10)

Try to tell me that people were wearing white (other than the students). All those colors you mentioned were present that night because of the rain. it looked horrible. I don’t really blame the alum for not wearing white that game considering that was only the 2nd ever whiteout. They really should have all just worn blue (which was the primary alumni color).

Student section has been ‘whiting out’ for a while now, which in of itself looks amazing for late afternoon games.

The White Out's Step Child

Back in ‘04 (maybe a first-ever white out that year too??) there was one instance of a “Code Blue.” Congrats to whoever in the marketing dept. decided to do away w/ that in the future and stick with white. Might’ve been an easy decision based on the results of the game though, because that might’ve been the dreaded never-mention-again 6-4 game when Iowa drilled a 2 run blast to take the lead in the top of the 8th.

The blue didn't look as cool

Dark colors don’t show up on TV as well.

And that's why Georgia looked so dumb.

Tens of thousands of black shirts…and white faces. Weak.

I think Bama/UGA should have been a noon game...

can you imagine wearing all black in the Georgia heat?

If they made the fans show up in painted blackface, I think there would have been some concerns from the ACLU & NAACP.

Then again, it is the South, so maybe no one would have minded.

Unless you're Ted Danson,

and your sweet date is the lovely Whoopie G.

Then it’s cool, AND hilarious.
