Glenn Carson Picks Nittany Lions
Gimme a white linebacker and a siren WHOOOOO
At least one visitor was impressed this weekend as New Jersey linebacker Glenn Carson committed to Penn State while on his official visit.
Glenn Carson is headed to Penn State University to play football.
The Southern Regional High School senior linebacker and running back verbally committed to the school this weekend.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Carson is one of the state’s top college prospects. He had 19 scholarship offers and made official visits this fall to Notre Dame, Boston College and Penn State.
Rutgers, Stanford, Virginia and Syracuse also heavily recruited Carson.
Hooray! Another flesh eating white linebacker!
As you can see from the article, Carson had a very impressive offer list. It had long been rumored that it was a two way battle between Rutgers and Penn State with Notre Dame making a late push. I guess Rutgers must have cooled on him. Afterall, we only get their leftovers.
Carson is our 16th verbal commitment and first linebacker. I think we'll still take one more linebacker in this class before we're done. Jelani Jenkins, come on down!
Welcome to Penn State, Glenn. WE ARE!
UPDATE: Digital Sports has more with quotes.
"I was kind of sure about two or three weeks ago, but I wanted to see Boston College to make sure that Penn State was the right choice,'' Carson said. "Overall I just felt that Penn State was the better school for me and if I could be in the best place.
"It's just been going through my mind for a long time now, doing the pros and cons for a while. The visit was the deciding factor, everything went as good as I thought it would.''

Awesome!
I love the fact that when they came on, the student section shouted “Play for us! Play for us!”

I thought they were not allowed to do that anymore.

No idea
I was apart of Paternoville and they let us in earlier. As far as I know, it was just that section of students shouting it. Not sure if that really matters though (it was like 2 hours before the game and we were the only people in the stands).

I know we got in trouble during an unofficial visit to a basketball game (devlin)
But since he was here officially for football I bet it is ok.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?

How
Can you “get in trouble”???
What can they really do, lock you up?
by SweepTheLeg on Sep 30, 2008 9:47 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
the NCAA sent us (Penn State) a warning letter
and said if it happened again the football team would face “sanctions”. Sorry to mislead, the students involved don’t get in trouble, the football team does.

I’m glad it’s official! This is a very good pickup for PSU! Welcome aboard Mr. Carson……you can’t go wrong with Vandy and Linebacker U!!!

A white linebacker at Penn State?
Raise your hand if you’ve heard that one before…

Wasn't that Arrington guy white?
I could have sworn we had one white LB, no?

Am i missing a joke? Who cares if he's white.
WTF?

Someone fill us in
I dont want to be a PC natzi but with no one else mentioning this I have to assume that PSUArch and myself are missing something. Did someone make a comment recently about how crappy white LB’s are?
Never mind that our last 4 good LB’s have been white (i’m including Shaw) but in the recruiting classes since 2006 (including this one) we’ve gotten commitments from 9 LB’s. 8 of them have been 4 star guys, and 7 of them have been white. In fact we have not signed a black LB since 2006 when Bani Gbadyu and Navorro Bowman chose to come to State College.

Yes, you're both missing something...the joke
They’re kidding, and making a joke of the fact that some of the best LBs we’ve had are white.

Yes, it's a joke.
I believe it was the old SMQ (now “Dr. Saturday”) who made a funny reference to PSU’s White Linebackers Of Doom, or something like that.
An obscure joke, but a joke nonetheless.

Dude
they are joking.
Remember the movie “white guys can’t jump”…don’t be so PC. Truth is most of the top athletes are black….irish guys like to drink…italians are greasy…etc

Relax
Penn State has been the butt of the joke from a few blogs about our penchant for recruiting white linebackers. Of course we here at BSD don’t care if our linebackers are white, black, pink, or purple. As long as they can crush skulls.

Funny stuff
My cousin writes for a CFB blog and when I read her Carson’s line (LB/RB- 6’3" 225 white kid from NJ) the other day she glanced up at me and said:
“Gee. PSU wet dream, go figure…” or something to that effect
Yup! We’ll take em all day as long as they keep up the tradition (and winning Bednarik awards!)

glenn carson
the name is a little….pedestrian?
can’t we add a few vowels to the end of his name?

Let’s call him Glenn Czarzinski. Can someone teach his mom how to make meatballs and sauce?

When you see the name Czarzinski, and have no trouble figuring out the pronunciation .

our defense
are we going to run a 1-7-3? With all of these LBs, playing time will be tough….maybe one of them can play QB or WR

Me too! I also want Justin Brown sooner rather than later!
The WR position will be wide open in 2009. The opportunity is there to come in and play right away in 2009. Pull the trigger already Justin!

Stay Tuned
I think he’s coming up for the Michigan game. But I don’t think we’ll hear a decision from him until December or January.

Yeah
I don’t see how any WRs could look at the team right now and not want to play for PSU. They’d know they’d get (near) immediate playing time. They’d know htey’d have QBs at least for the first couple years who could get them the ball. I guess not having any good QB prospects for 2011 on is a bit scary, though.
Speaking of which, the next time I see the flashing light, I hope it is Tate Forcier de-committing and committing to PSU :-D

This sounds crazy
But I think we need another project QB.
In hindight, somebody tell me how the recrutiment of Daryll Clark is not the biggest stroke of genius this team has ever had. You have a highly talented kid, with no expectations, in the program for 3 (and half?) years before he gets on the field, and when he does finally statr to play he’s a full grown man with two years of eligibility left.
I wouldn’t give three Tate Forciers a chance in a fight against Daryll Clark.

Think of it this way
If you are a quarterback recruit, picking a school, what are your chances of playing next year at Penn State.
Zero.
Why would a kid like Forcier come to Penn State, when he can go to Michigan, have his ass kissed, and probably play right away? I don’t blame a Forcier for making that decision, it’s hard to argue with it. But I’d rather have another kid like Clark come into the system, willing to work, with something to prove.

Grown man as a QB
like Chris Weinke or Jason White? :-p I wouldn’t mind having a heisman trophy winner (though I never was too fond of either of those QBs)

Seriously who do you want?
A 22 year old man from a tough area of Youngstown that had to fight for everyhting he ever got, or some spoiled 18 year old kid from California? I can tell you who the players on Penn State’s team seem to react better too.

Oh trust me
At this point, I’m about to name DQ the best QB I’ve ever seen. I mean yeah, he’s not the perfect QB, but he seems the perfect QB for our team. I remember when there was the QB “controversy” before the season started, and I wanted Devlin in there so that he could get 3 years of experience in, while with Clark we would only get 2 years, and all I kept hearing about Clark was how he was such a big “leader” and all, and I took that to mean “a nice kid who JoePa feels obligated to play”. After seeing him actually play, and handle the situations thrown at him so far, and watch him in his post-game interviews, I’m a believer.
