Clark on Heisman Watch?
SI suggests Clark is a leading candidate for the Heisman. A bit too early for such talk?

Agreed....but.....
it is nice to see him get some well deserved recognition on a national stage. Maybe it’ll make others stand up and take notice.

Good for DC
I have to admit that I was looking forward to seeing Devlin playing this year. But Clarke’s play has been amazing so far, and I’m now more than happy have people say “I told you so” about Clarke.

Also a mention of Royster...
And if he can keep his ypc average up around 7, he will definitely make his way onto the list.

The key for Royster
is he has to keep getting those 100 yard games against good competition. Larry Johnson should have won the Heisman, but he got knocked because his yards seriously dropped off against Michigan and Ohio State. If Royster have a big game like 150 yards and three TD against Ohio State lookout. He’ll start getting a lot of mentions.

It's hard
for me to envision Clark leaping ahead of all the preseason favorites for Heisman, mostly because he hardly played last year and the offense is very diverse gaining rushing as well as passing yards, I don’t think he’s going to have Playstation numbers like a Chase Daniel.

I agree.
We aren’t a pass-ridiculous offense like Mizz that will give Clark the outstanding stats for his position. And unlike Tebow, Clark isn’t the the center of the offense’s universe.
If someone like LJ, or even Robinson, can’t land the Heisman, I have doubts that Clark will be able to. I just don’t think our guys get hyped or marketed by the university like the Ohio States of the country.
That said, it’s cool they are recognizing him. Royster will garner some attention quickly if he keeps up that YPC through the next few Big 10 games.

Maybe we could put up a huge billboard of Clark in times square like they did
for Ray Rice….it worked for him. No, wait….

Well
Ray Rice also was only the third leading rusher that year, and happened to be in the same Heisman class as 3 or 4 statistically phenomenal QBs. Billboards can only help so much, but in the end you have to have the stats to back it up, plus it helps to be on a team that actually accomplishes something.

Joey Heisman
is the perfect example of this in 2001, coming out of the Oregon/Nike hype machine.

DQ & Royster
Have an advantage that LJ did not though. Night games against Wisconsin & Ohio State, and a 4:30 with Michigan. If they put up good numbers, and Penn State gets through those games undefeated, one of the two of them will finish in at least the top three.

Another note..
It is also important to point out that we so far are at least a NC contender and LJ played on a 9-3 team. Its unusual that someone (Tebow) wins with that record.
the voters usually take someone who has taken a high quality BCS conference team to an undefeated season rather than a system player with gaudy stats. If this wasn’t the case, then Harrell or Brennan would have won last year. LJ didn’t win because Carson Palmer had an NC team. So if Clark say has over 2300 yds and 20 passing tds, 10 rushing he has a shot, same for Royster if he gets to around 13-1500 yds and 20 tds. Those are of course figures that I am just tossing out there as being somewhat realistic.

???????
We the hell did Rashaan Salem win the Heisman over Ki Jana Carter then?
I thought only safeties played 15 yards off the ball?

Two reasons
1. Salaam had 2,000 yards rushing, which was considered like the magic heisman number at the time. Since then a bunch of people had done it, but at the time, every single player who had rushed for 2000 yards had won the trophy
2. Collins split the vote
I hindsight, I could have run for 8 yards a carry behind that offensive line. For 15 years after 1994 there was not an NFL team in the league that would not have started both Hartings and Rivera and not had the best offensive line in the NFL.
