Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Not Good

As already noted in two Fanposts, it appears that Penn State police spent last night poking around the apartment of Abe Koroma, A.J. Wallace, and Maurice Evans.

This seems not good. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it's another black eye (unfortunate, but part of the territory with this program lately). But if something truly unsavory or surreptitious was going on, it opens up all kinds of other conversations. Waiting for more facts, though.

Rumormongering

I saw on a message board where someone got an email from their nephew on campus that this was a domestic disturbance call. Police were called out for loud music. None of the football players were charged with anything.

Just a rumor on the internet so TIFWIW

by BSD on Sep 3, 2008 9:36 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Three reported facts that don't sound good:

-Police entered the apartment with pictures (of what?).
-Police left carrying at least two paper bags (again, of what?).
-RA’s were also seen carrying out speakers.

by Kevin HD on Sep 3, 2008 9:36 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe

Police were taking alcohol from minors?

RA was taking the speakers to break up the party?

Party on Tuesday night / Wednesday morning?

I mean, I used to get hammered at Pitcher Wars on Tuesday nights, but I didn’t have to get ready for Oregon State in a few days.

Polic entered with pictures to be signed by players

Then left with bags of delicious donuts, and that was the end of the party so the RA’s took their speakers back. Whew that was a close one.

I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?

It would be a really good move of the part of the football team to go ahead and try and to explain it away asap. Sitting on it, or letting the police give vauge answers isn’t going to help anything.

by Kevin HD on Sep 3, 2008 9:46 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree with that. The FOS.com boards are saying that there is a rumor on campus that this is a domestic disturbance and that a non-football player was arrested, but there were no confirmed reports of anyone being taken out in cuffs. Also, there is another rumor of Quarless being there…not good for him.

According to the article which adorned the front page of the Collegian, the following people had no comment: Police Sgt. Brian Bittner, “many people outside”, University spokesman Bill Mahon, Sports Information Director Jeff Nelson, Football Communications Director Guido D’Elia, a Residence Life Official, and the police. So what’s the story? Nice investigative journalism, not exactly the work of Woodword and Bernstein there.

From the University police log...

At 2219 hours, as the result of investigating a report of loud music in the Nittany Apartments complex, the odor of burning marijuana was detected coming from inside of one of the buildings. The residents of the apartment declined a consent search and a search warrant was applied for and executed on the residence. The search yielded a small amount of marijuana. Charges to be filed.

So some kid at the party had some weed. If it was in his pocket the residents can’t be held responsible. They can say they had no knowledge the kids was bringing it in.

Of course, Austin Scott got booted for drinking on a week night of a game, didn’t he? These kids have to know that once the season starts it’s time to get down to business.

Sometimes..........

in life you have to stop wondering and just say…….this is happening because we have knuckleheads on the team. Lots of them. No amount of pondering and counseling and talk of respect for Paterno or the University is going to change this. We have who we have.

I once dated this total fox that was a bit of a hussy. My Dad said to me Eric, knock the bottom out of her, but DON’T FALL IN LOVE WITH HER (like CC says, date the stripper, don’t marry her). Anyhow…..I thought she just needed a guy that “understood her” or didn’t mistreat her. I was naive. She cheated on me left and right. I spent countless hours trying to figure out why. Then my Dad gave me another nugget…………Eric, she doesn’t know any better. Her mother was the same way. Nothing you can say, do, or come up with is going to change how she was raised, who she is, or how she acts. 15 years later, nothing has changed. She still sleeps around town and is seemingly devoid of any compassion.

Maybe we just have a bunch of dudes who just don’t get it cause we have been spending WAY too much time over the last 2 years trying to figure it out. Maybe it just is what it is.

Yeah......

I don’t have an answer to that. Just saying sometimes we waste a lot of cycles trying to figure out some complicated solution to an issue that simply has no solution. In this case, the solution would be something that caused a light to go off for the players getting in trouble. It seems that no amount of public embarrassment, suspensions from Paterno, or ESPN special calling into character your character has straightened the ship. So maybe we have a lot of guys who will never “get it”.

You sound like a high school buddy of mine

He came from a wealthy family and led a very priviledged life. Very good looking guy. He was a brilliant honor student and could have probably gone to any Ivy League school of his choice. But then he asked the school slut to the prom. She banged him and he fell in love. She was going to Penn State in the fall and he decided to follow her. Of course after about a week on campus she dumped him and started chasing the college c*ck and he was left there to pursue his state school education while his twin brother went to Princeton.

He never did get over her. Years later when he was a junior she called him out of the blue totally drunk on a Saturday night. This idiot actually went walking up and down College Avenue looking in every bar trying to find her. I never saw anything so pathetic in my life.

Another update (CDT)

http://www.centredaily.com/news/breaking_news/story/815129.html

News reports about police converging on an apartment shared by three Penn State football players turned out to be based on a pretty routine incident — police breaking up a loud party.

Penn State police Lt. Bill Moerschbacher said police did find and seize a small amount of marijuana from the residence, but he said that a "Special Response Unit" truck was at the scene only because that’s the vehicle police happened to be driving last night.

Moerschbacher said police received a complaint about a loud party at Nittany Apartments number 5204 about 8 p.m.

According to Penn State’s online directory, football players Maurice Evans and Abe Koroma reside at that apartment.

When police arrived, they saw a small amount of marijuana, Moerschbacher said. Police got a search warrant from District Judge Carmine Prestia and seized several related items from the apartment, Moerschbacher said.

Moerschbacher said he could not comment on any suspects, but there was no arrest made last night. Any citations filed will likely be sent through the mail, he said.

I’m no scientist, but I am pretty sure gravity bongs don’t help to increase lung capacity and cardio endurance. Plus, don’t we want these guys to be aggressive? Next thing we know, they’ll be telling jokes and hugging the opposing players instead of tackling them!

Looks like

Joe will go into denial mode, and nothing will happen this week. Then we’ll pound Beavers on Saturday, Evans and his crew will get citations next week…this will lead Joe to suspend for a game or two (see: Syracuse/Temple). The players will be in the doghouse, but will be playing by the second possession in the Illinois game and starting by Purdue. Should be all good…anything where the citations are mailed and no arrests are made isn’t a huge deal…just wish these guys could reel it in and stop getting into trouble like a bunch of thugs.

Ha ha...he said "pound the beavers."

I hope I get a chance to pound a beaver on Saturday too!

I bleed Blue and White.
