Darryl Clark: officially eligible for 2009
I guess this is somewhat good news in a day that has been pretty horrible so far...
From Bob Flounders:
Penn State starting quarterback Daryll Clark will be eligible to play for the Nittany Lions in 2009.
According to PSU assistant athletic director Jeff Nelson, Clark, who began preseason practice with senior eligibility, is on schedule to graduate by December of 2008.
To qualify for 2009 playing status, Nelson stated earlier this year that Clark had to complete 80 percent of his credits needed to gradate by the summer of 2009.
Clark already has completed 85 perecent of his credit workload, Nelson said via email Wednesday morning.
Clark, who entered preseason practice with senior eligibility, now becomes a fourth-year junior. The telecommunications major plans to enroll in a second degree or graduate school in the 2009 spring semester.
After playing football at Ursuline High School in Ohio in 2004, Clark spent 2004-2005 at Kiski Prep. He was redshirted at PSU in 2005.
How will this impact Devlin?

Not a damn bit
The starting QB battle is far from over and that’s a good thing for the team. Both these guys are initially looking solid. Devlin still has a shot at stealing it away from Clark, and if he has any stones he’ll stick around and compete for it.

Devlin
I don’t think it makes sense for him to transfer now. If he wanted to play in Div IA he would have to sit out next year and only get one year to compete for a starting job. If he stays here he is virtually guaranteed the starting job in 2010, and he’s looking at decent playing time this year and next year. He’s only one injury away from being the man here. He would be stupid to jump ship now.

He should start now
If the coaches were smart they would start Devlin and bring Clark in as a change of pace. Devlin just has “it”.
Devlin or Clark
The best quarterback on the team is always the second-stringer. People forget that most wanted Morelli to start over Robinson in 2005.
ugh, don't remind me
Devlin is a sharp prospect and he will be able to challenge Clark for the starting spot next year and even this year if Clark doesn’t hit a home run.
