DirecTV -- Handy Information
This past Saturday I woke up early, identified the ESPN channel that would carry the PSU game and didn't think much of it as I went about my day. Right before gametime I tuned in the channel and clicked on the little purchase icon and found that it didn't work.
I called DirecTV and they told me that I had already purchased my maximum number of programs via the on-screen purchase system. WHAT? I couldn't believe it. Apparently you have to have a phone line attached to the box to order more than 1 or 2 weeks of pay-per-day gameplan. The other option is to purchase the pay-per-day gameplan on the DirecTV website earlier in the week. I haven't found the exact location on the website to make the purchase, but I assume this works.
I thought I would pass this along to all of you before you get yourself into the same situation I found myself in on Saturday.
PS: I did get the game...I just had to beg the customer service department.

It works online...
I ordered the Syracuse game on GamePlan from the website the Thursday before – worked fine. Go to the TV Schedule link (top of the site) and find your program, PPV, GamePlan, etc – next to any show available for online purchase is a little button. Click it and your off – you can choose to pay then or have it added to your bill. Bam – you’re done and not freaking out minutes before (or after) kickoff.
Woo Hoo!
Thanks for the explanation on how to do it online. For some reason it was confusing to me when I tried to search for it yesterday.

the other solution is to plug the reciever into the phone jack (obviously).
The only way they can tell what you have ordered is via the phone, the receiver cannot beam information back to space.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Land Line?
Who has a land line anymore?

Dish Network Tip
If you plug your receiver into a phone jack it saves you five bucks a month. Also, if you use your receiver to order PPV events they charge you $1. If you call them over the phone and order it they charge you $5.

That is the one thing I hate. They love this “land line” thing but more and more people (at least under the age of 35) are going to cell phones only so you have to do it via the internet. Not a big deal but some of the ppv stuff needs to be ordered a few days in advance. However, if you change your package online, you will get the channels in like 30 sec.

I'm Not Sure........
I understand why the receiver couldn’t send a signal to the dish. The receiver is just a computer as far as I am know. I can get satellite internet through Dish Network. Maybe its the receiver, but it could just be the type of dish they use. I don’t know. Anyway you slice it, its a little annoying. But I wanted the Sunday ticket so I went with Direct TV. I just order everything online.

it is kinda like
the same reason your car radio can’t send signals back to the radio stations
