PrintThe guys at the Oregon State blog Building the Dam seem to think playing Penn State in Beaver Stadium is not a big deal.
Personally, I think it's hilarious how much hype this game is getting in the local papers. Stanford was a MUCH more important game. Much, much, much more important. Too bad we didn't win it though.
Penn State is...
- a fringe top 25 team not very far removed from a 3-win season and several recent losing seasons
- the owner of a huge stadium
- a respected name--for their play in the last century
- a team with 20% of its roster charged with a crime in the last year
- a team with 20% of its starters being investigated for drugs THIS WEEK
- a team without a quarterback
- a team with experienced, though incredibly average, receivers
- a team with a superior offensive line
- a team with a great defensive line--when they're not suspended/jailed
- a team with a questionable secondary
- a team that runs practically the same offense that Joe Paterno ran as a high school quarterback (he seriously ran a shotgun, no huddle offense in high school--that is not made up)
- about as boring as it gets, no offense intended
Might as well call them Ho-Hum State.
Yeah. Penn State sucks. Keep telling yourself that. Right up until the Beaver beatdown ends on Saturday. It's on now, mother fuckers.

I think we’re gonna beat these toolbags down. Didn’t they just get beat by Standford? How embarrassing will it be to get beat without three of our starters. They’ve been talking trash on scout boards for awhile. I hope that PSU beats them into the ground and they never come east again.

Not a DMX fan but I’ll admit, THAT song would be much better than Zombie Nation. I mean, are you guys drinking before games or taking X and giving each other back rubs in the student section?
I’m excited to watch this game and let me say that the overwhelming majority of OSU fans doesn’t look at PSU as “Ho Hum State”… We’re all jacked up and BTD, while offensive to opponents, is pretty entertaining and basically is just looking to keep things interesting by stirring the pot.
I haven't seen a whole lot on BTD

that got me legitimately fired up. when royster and green combine for 6 tds all i’m going to do is laugh. we’ll be able to run so well, our depleted defense will never be on the field.

Don't listen to the postings of CV3000
I’d say 90% of OSU’s fans are excited and scared to be playing at Penn State
I think the point he was trying to make is that we’re trying to win a Pac 10 Championship, and therefore while this is a big game it’s less important than any conference game we have
