Quarless

Apparently Quarless didn’t have a part with the festivities held at the Nittany Apartments and will dress for the game. That’s the rumor at least.

Senior Leadership

Time for the seniors to step up in lieu of the dope nonsense this week. Derrick Williams should go berzerk today running and catching. Expect to see true Spread today and Clark to rush for 50-75 yards.

Mark Rubin

Getting some good coverage on College Gameday. Apparently he was an excellent swimmer in high school, beat Phelps a few times (my guess is in relays, but who knows) and won several state championships.

Also,

Excellent rant by Herbstreit about the off-field problems.

Good take on the problems; less Paterno-bashing and more player accountability.

He pretty much echoed what many have said here.

by Spats on Sep 6, 2008 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

You're not going to embarrass

any football players with comments in an online forum. He just called them out in front of their peers, and that’s going to hurt later tonight regardless of the result of today’s game.

by gumbercules on Sep 6, 2008 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

I totally agree....

All I’m saying is that it was just nice to here something other than the same tired complaints about how Paterno has lost control….yadda yadda yadda

by Spats on Sep 6, 2008 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Can anyone summarize what Herbstreit said?

I missed it.

"A setback is just a set up for a comeback." -Drew Brees

by kajpsu on Sep 6, 2008 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

short synopsis

He essentially called out the three guys suspended for their ignorant behavior, putting a legendary coach in such a tight situation without realizing that the entire media has their eyes focused on the PSU blotter right now, and said somebody needs to stand up in the locker room and take charge.

by gumbercules on Sep 6, 2008 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Basically, he dumped it on the players.

After referencing the OTL piece (which followed Fowler saying that most of the legal infractions have been alcohol offenses), Herbie dumped the recent incident on the players. Where’s the leadership, where’ the accountability, etc. Wondered how these players could constantly keep disgracing their legendary coach.

It was a nice concession from the GameDay crew in light of the OTL business, but it missed the obvious point that the legendary coach allowed the situation to get this far.

Needs a few student double secret insider info about PSU football players and their everday lives. It could kinda be like Nittany Notes. A student signs up for a particular player(s) that they are in class with and give weekly updates on rumors and stuff.

As a betting man how can you not bet the over is this game… I’m thinking 41-24 PSU.

our defense smokes a ton of weed? I thought the student claims of a hundred pounds of weed were ridiculous, but I think “a hundred pounds” was just shorthand for “a lot.”

I was defending these guys for a while, but whoever had anything to do with this…At least one of the guys who lived there is a complete idiot.

I agree with what Herbstreit said about the need for player accountability. Player leaders need to step up and explain that there’s a mission…the fact that they evidently have not already makes me dubious about this team’s prospects.

by spakajewia on Sep 6, 2008 2:51 PM EDT reply actions

when my coach caught us

when the coach caught us he worked us like crazy. I don’t think I have ever done so many push-ups and sprints after getting caught drinking one night. I knew never to do it again. I really feel like the leaders should step up and make the kids do stuff like that. Work them so hard and beat it out of them. When they get tired who cares work them harder.

by BSD on Sep 6, 2008 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Something is fishy

All of a sudden we’re doing things on offense we’ve been wanting to see for years. A red zone TD fade to a big guy? Downfield passes to our receivers? Proper utilization of Derrick Williams? Something happened with the coaching staff. Whoever was calling the shots the last few seasons isn’t the person calling them now, whether that person is Joe, Jay, or Galen.

Don't agree

  1. would have overthrown about 1/2 of those passes and never would have been able to make that run.

Last year's qb

Would have overthrown those passes.

I don’t think #14 could have do what is going on this year

by jetskijoe on Sep 6, 2008 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't debate that.

But how many times did we even try a fade to a tall guy in the endzone? And it doesn’t matter who is handing the ball off to Williams. I’ll gladly concede that #17 > #14, but I still suspect that someone has loosened up their grip on the offensive playcalling responsibilities.

Clark is looking very very good today

I believe this might be Penn State’s year to take down Michigan and the Buckeyes

only

if we do this sort of thing away from home…the playbook needs to stay this open on the road if we expect to win

Josh

Gaines is having a hell of game

by Loyal Lion on Sep 6, 2008 4:56 PM EDT reply actions

wow

Josh Gaines just blew up the right tackle and got the sack. Awesome

Nice

They got a piece of that punt and we get the ball at midfield. Only 20 seconds to work with.

Norwood's my new hero

What's the record?

212 yards receiving? Norwood might break it today.

by BSD on Sep 6, 2008 4:59 PM EDT reply actions

Butler

got it in 2006, with 216 i think

I know its just one half...

but man are these guys making feel good about the season

by brubby on Sep 6, 2008 4:59 PM EDT reply actions

Wait we are going to try to put up points

This is new this year. You mean we are going to put up more points being up by this much. What is going on here.

oh man

you can’t take a sack there Clark. Takes us out of field goal range.

by BSD on Sep 6, 2008 5:00 PM EDT reply actions

oh man

Nice try by Kelly. Online, but just five yards short.

by BSD on Sep 6, 2008 5:01 PM EDT reply actions

That's a big boot

60 yard FG just short. Worth a try.

Luring recruits with my new "Posting HD" scheme since '08.

Almost... from 60

at least it wasn’t wide like last year

by brubby on Sep 6, 2008 5:01 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

With a sucky defense and a red-hot offense, we lead 35-7 at the end of the first half. So far, PSU is the only Big Ten team not to falter out of the gate starting the game. Lets go boys, keep it up in the 2nd half. WE ARE!

Hey...Does anybody wanna smoke some pot?

Also, can somebody point me to the post where everybody takes back all the mean things they said about Jay Paterno and Daryl Clark?

Do think it was about Clark

I know everyone can’t stand Jay Paterno.

by jetskijoe on Sep 6, 2008 5:08 PM EDT up reply actions

No way Jessie.

I have been calling for Clark. That scout for the Cardinals said it all about Jay Pa when he commented on how under coached and under prepared Morelli was for the next level.

Not disagreeing with you but...

a scout for that NFC West powerhouse CARDINALS?

Remember.......

That powerhouse would mop the floor with USC :)

For the record, I'll note that nobody turned down the pot

It’s 35-7 at halftime, so that was my idea of a joke.

I'll be shocked

if anyone is still saying Pat Devlin should be starting after this game.
