So Much White in the stadium

Go Penn State. So tired of hearing how great U$C is!

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:00 PM EST reply actions

Good

PSU turnout….about %40?

by SweepTheLeg on Jan 1, 2009 5:01 PM EST reply actions

Hull

I hope he showed up to play fast today!

Let's Go State

Time to break somebody up!!!

Haha!

“Welcome to Happy Valley West”

Great sign!

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:04 PM EST reply actions

i LOVE those guys.

I don’t know how they get to every game but they are dedicated.

by kmblue on Jan 1, 2009 5:07 PM EST up reply actions

Really

Not only to they get to every game, but they always get the front row.

by BSD on Jan 1, 2009 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

I love it...

Joe not doing the interview and probably getting PSU fined. t hat’s awesome!!

by PSU Jen on Jan 1, 2009 5:06 PM EST reply actions

Pretty cold

Fining PSU because their 82 year old coach had hip replacement surgery.

by BSD on Jan 1, 2009 5:09 PM EST up reply actions

I believe PSU got a better reception when they came out

It doesn’t seem right that the team that owns the Rose Bowl should get booed

Good to hear these Refs will be quick

Since they will have that EEESSSSS EEEEEE CEEEE Speed.

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:08 PM EST reply actions

Three Things

1. The Song Girls aren’t all that great in HD
2. At What point do we decide we all wear white to every game forever. I made that call about 10 minutes ago.
3. I fucking love Penn State.

Ray Rhodes could do well in the Pac 10 with USC

by TexasLax on Jan 1, 2009 5:11 PM EST reply actions

It's all about recruiting

Since that’s what most coaches do nowadays. Who really cares about coaching when you have the recruits to overwhelm other people?

Of course, there are a couple of coaches still in Div 1-A (or FBS whichever you prefer).

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:12 PM EST up reply actions

Kickoff

Powell to the 26 yd line.

Lets get a good TD drive here.

by kmblue on Jan 1, 2009 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Ehh..

Daryll Clark threw high there. 3rd down.

by kmblue on Jan 1, 2009 5:13 PM EST reply actions

He usually misses high

That’s why he only has 3 ints

Keep it in perspective

by JuniataMan on Jan 1, 2009 5:14 PM EST up reply actions

he’ll settle down, this is pretty normal for him

by letsgopsu on Jan 1, 2009 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

45.3%

On third downs of 7+ yards? Wowzors. That’s better than most teams on all of third downs.

Unfortunately that one was converted :(

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:14 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Bowman might be able to play for USC, he must be good

Keep it in perspective

by JuniataMan on Jan 1, 2009 5:16 PM EST reply actions

Bowman is so good, he could play for USC!

-1 for backhanded compliment

All your base are belong to JoePa.

by mushdamma on Jan 1, 2009 5:16 PM EST reply actions

Seriously

No respect. Bowman MIGHT be good enough to be USC’s third linebacker.

by BSD on Jan 1, 2009 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

Of course

Bowman’s out there

Keep it in perspective

by JuniataMan on Jan 1, 2009 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

Need field position

At the very least. A score would be a lot nicer.

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:17 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

USC is not that much faster than us after all.

I wonder how many years

It will take for that stupid diagnosis of teams to go away. I’m pretty sure that if you match up the 40 speeds (I think Mike even did this before) between most teams they would be similar.

by hasuprotoss on Jan 1, 2009 5:19 PM EST up reply actions

I never thought the day would come that I like Herbstreet better than the lead announcer. But over the last 4 years he has lost his OSU-slant and gotten to be very good.

Cowboys suck.

Dumb Call

Don’t get conservative, Penn State.

by MainLion on Jan 1, 2009 5:21 PM EST reply actions

Must agree

If you’re going to run it right there on 3rd down and a long-ish one, I would much rather the option to come out then a standard up the middle run. Either that, or get it to Green on the outside.

They are staying behind the first down marker. I personally don’t like it but there’s probably a reason the coaches are doing.

PSU needs to pressure Sanchez more. When he’s under pressure, his passes sail, he panics, etc. Give him a little time, and he throws as well as Darryl. Come on, Bradley, dial up the house.

If you run a post route in between seems and a zone and the pass is perfect it works. If it isn’t, you get interceptions, and pass defenses.

If Joe pulled every USA Today All American, Rivals 5 Star, etc., he’d do the same.

Pete Carroll is no genius. He couldn’t coach int he NFL, where the skill of his team was equal to the skill of the opposition. He couldn’t do the same against Texas, the last team to match up man for man. Nor could he do the same against Florida.

Pete Carroll wins through his players. He’s not the second coming of Bear Bryant.

Carrol

Needs to more so yell at his kids when they dance (which you would expect college kids to do, as the one commenter said) instead of the refs. Since technically his official title is “coach” not “arguer.”

I don’t think it’s thuggish of the USC players to dance around on the sidelines, they are playing smart on the field (and not taking so many penalties like PSU); however, I think it’s thuggish of the USC coaches to let the dancing continue.

If you were to put on one side of the scale Anthony M. and his faults, and on the other the penalties, fumbles, poor DB play, etc., you’d come out equal with me. Anthony didn’t have the mentality as he did the raw talent, but anyway you look at it, whether he caused a loss, or the team collectively caused a loss, the outcome is the same. Let the kid go already. I can’t imagine he doesn’t have a wheelbarrow fll of regrets.

See, I’ve had this discussion with many. I opined that I’d trade a Phillies WS and Eagles SB (in the same year) for a PSU Nat’l Championship. Don’t get me wrong—I loved being downtown the night of the ad hoc parade and celebration. It was unlike anything I ever experienced.

But, for PSU, it’s about something more. It’s showing Joe has one last bag of magic dust. It’s showing a program that does it right, and with class, can win as well as as any school. (La la la I am ignoring the off field programs; but seriously—they were kids making bad decisions, and not indicative of a bad program.) It’s about the pureness of college athletics (or what is left of it), where there’s no complaining about arbitration, benchings, etc.

But, if a PSU loss means the Eagles will run the table, well, I guess I will let it slide. But only this time.

by MainLion on Jan 1, 2009 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

I truly think he’ll be back for one last year next year and with our schedule, I believe that we could do another run in the Big Ten. This hurts but you know, we screwed up with the penalties and the better team took them and ran with it.

Appreciation

Regardless of this game, I think the current group of seniors (and the names we all remember over the last three years, reall) should be held in the same regard as the 1994 team. The program may not be at the top of the mountain yet, but they brought it out of the swamp at the base of the mountain. The foundation has been laid again. The classes that follow must continue to lay bricks.

Now, for the first time ever, I’m going to root for OSU to beat Texas. Gain respect for the Big Ten.

At least we put up some points.

I hate USC’s players, but I like Pete Carrol. Tought loss.

What the _____ was that?

Seriously? A fade or pseudo fade?

Sigh.

Penn State had to play smart, tight, and without mistakes. Fail.

I love these guys, and I hate to see it end this way.

What about when Auburn wanted that same +1 chance?

Great season

I just wanted to see D-Will, Norwood and Butler go out with a big win! :(

No team in the country

could have beat USC tonight

Keep it in perspective

by JuniataMan on Jan 1, 2009 8:44 PM EST reply actions

I disagree...

we could have if we played to win in the second half.

by PSUROLLS on Jan 1, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

I don't buy that

Sorry, but a couple stops on defense and we’re right in that thing. USC played very well, but they’re not an unstoppable juggernaut. That great defense still gave up 24 points…

Throw it to Zug!

by 31rulesall on Jan 1, 2009 8:45 PM EST reply actions

I'm Sorry...

but I’ve never been so disappointed in this team. They had a chance in the 4th quarter to make it even closer and they didn’t do a thing about it. No hurry up, no deep balls, field goals. A high snap on the U$C punt and it we were within 7 that last 40 sec. could be for OT. Anything could happen and it almost did. Poor effort in my book.

by PSUROLLS on Jan 1, 2009 8:45 PM EST reply actions

Disagree

We won the second half. If anything is disappoiting it’s the second quarter

Keep it in perspective

by JuniataMan on Jan 1, 2009 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

yeah but

we had a chance down 14 with 3-4 min left. If we played to win we could have been there with 5-6 min left.

Great Game State

I think we just watched the best TWO teams in the country.

by WE ARE SC on Jan 1, 2009 8:46 PM EST reply actions

Congrats USC!

You are a good team… very great team. We got schooled. I so hope the Eagles are able to pick Taylor Mays in the draft, he’s going to be great.

Anyway, enjoy the win.

Classy USC fan!

Thanks, your team is full of talent and they exploit weaknesses very nicely. You guys deserved this win.

Rose Bowl Trophy

These are like Dixie Cups to Pete. Probably uses one to hold up his desk, has one on his front porch instead of a yard gnome, has one in the bathroom with extra TP on it, etc.

I cannot wait for the Spring. I want to hear his excited raspy voice, and that smell of victory in the air.

USC.......

out ahtleted us. Sorry. Its that simple. They our ran us. They out quicked us. They didn’t out scheme us. They were faster and quicker.

The Big 10 hasn’t won a Rose Bowl since 99. That isn’t coincidence.

USC Condoms (er Trojans)

Make no mistake about it. It was a down home a$$ whupping. Big Ten is 0-10 since 1999 in Rose Bowl. Taylor Mays and Ray Malugula are sure fire first rounders in April’s NFL Draft.
