Penn State Wins Another Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy

Penn State won the Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy, awarded to the best team in the east, again this year.  At this point they might as well rename it the Joe Paterno Trophy.  In his 43 seasons as head coach, Penn State has won the award 23 times.  Penn State also won the award once under Bob Higgins and 3 times under Rip Engle (with Paterno as an assistant).  In total, Penn State has won 27 times, 20 times more than the second place Army (who won their last before we won our second), and 21 times more than third place Pittsburgh (their last was 28 years ago).  While this award really doesn't mean as much as it once did, it is still pretty amazing the dominance Penn State has had in the eastern region, especially in the Paterno era.

Maybe not Gainesville...

but Miami is another story, they are 7th all-time in Lambert-Meadowlands Trophies.

Fluke

Only through a stupid rule that basically allows non-Northeast Big East members as eligible. Miami (FL) and Va Tech were formerly eligible for the trophy while in the Big East; South Florida, Cinci and Louisville currently are eligible. It’s silly.

True Story:

Miami (FL) all time record: 544-310-19
Miami (OH) all time record: 650-383-44

Except for a couple of good runs in the last 25 years, the southern Miami hasn’t ever amounted to all that much.

Pitt

I’m not one who generally cares about playing Pitt because I figure they’re basically irrelevent. And this trophy is a good reflection as to why: if you can’t win this award (which basically amounts to a Eastern school “conference championship”) one time within the past 25+ years, how important can you be? Pitt hasn’t won the trophy since 1980.

Is there any actual trophy?

If so, is it as ugly as the Land Grant Trophy?
I can’t imagine that’s possible.

what is with the throwing on of the football player onto every trophy?

This trophy would look about 100 times better (although still wedding cakey) if it just had the football on top.

He looks like he’s falling off of the football.
Or he’s being chased by a big dog.
