Penn State listed as one of the "Last Four Out", although this should probably be described as the "First Four Out".
Also from the article:
"Penn State had a nice two-win week, but we still had to leave them out of the field. They have picked up some nice wins in conference but they will need at least 10 Big Ten wins to have any chance at a bid since they have no OOC resume to speak of. With the schedule they have left, we just can't see them getting to 10-8 in conference, nevermind 11-7. Some may be surprised that we went with Wisconsin over the Nittany Lions. The Badgers have dropped four straight, but we think they will get this back on track and shouldn't have too much trouble getting to nine wins in conference, which would be enough for a bid given their solid RPI."

Not to say I won't support Penn State
..but I think their assessment is extremely fair. My gut tells me that an NCAA berth is a bridge too far for the Fightin’ DeShizzles.

Let this be a lesson
If we go 10-8 in the Big Ten and don’t make the conference, we have nobody to blame but those who made up the schedule. Hopefully it will wake them up and encourage them to go get better competition even if it means giving up some home games.

At the current attendance level, what kind of revenue
are we actually giving up by not playing East Bumfk Egypt State at home?

Better competition
Well, I think the powers that be made up this schedule with intentions to start small, build it up. If we were playing top notch competition, it isnt like we would be helping ourselves outside of just being able to say we made a tough schedule. I think in the next few years it could/should be beefed up, but at this point we are still struggling to build and one way to do that is to gain confidence through wins.
Side note: we had a chance to play nova, which may have been only one game, its a shame we choked the oppurtunity for that.
Also, I don’t think many major programs would like to play us. It isn’t like we would help their sos much yet we are a large school who would want a home game, so i think its an awkward kind of inbetween thing. Im not sweatting it, I am just looking forward to us growing into a solid program.

exactly right
This is the Texas A&M model that they used to make it to the Final Four 2 years ago. For the first few years to build a program, they would set a schedule that would put them at like 13-1 or 15-0 entering conference play. This would create the illusion of greatness to the fans, draw some attention, and progressively get them better. I remember the one year they won twenty-some games and didn’t even make the tournament, but in the long run it worked for them.
