First time visitor
Hello everyone,
My apologies. I am a first time visitor but very big PSU fan as my wife is an alumni. I spend most of my time on bleeinggreennation.com which is a related blog.
Most of my questions are probably answered but hopefull you can answer again anwyay.
What does PSU have instore with our 3 super WR's all graduating and moving on to the NFL? Who is in the wings with talent?
Who is our QB behind Clarke now that Devlin is leaving or has left?
Thanks

Welcome!
Bracket, Moye, Zug are the 3 WRs that will be the starters next year. Bracket and Moye have great size and Zug….is well….Zug. We are hoping to land Justin Brown in recruiting and he will see some significant time if he commits.
As far as QB depth….we landed Kevin Newsome as a blue chip dual threat QB that will serve as Clark’s backup this year. Newsome will see significant time early in the season, and will be the starter in 2010.

Chaz Powell should see a lot of playing time. Look for Penn State to utilize him much like Derrick Williams. That is if they don’t move him back to defense. We’ll have six or seven freshmen wide receivers coming in next year, so look for one or two of them to play right away.
I’m not worried about the wide receivers. We’ll have plenty of athletic talent to plug in there, and WR is one of the easiest positions for freshmen to play right away. I’m more worried about the offensive line and defensive secondary.

We don’t know if the new kids at wideout will accomplish what the trio did during their careers, but I do like one thing that they have that our leaving guys did not. HEIGHT. That of course is not nearly enough, but everyone likes a tall guy to throw to and we have guys 6’6", 6’5" 6’3’’ etc that will be playing. Itll be neat to see how they follow up to these guys.

What USC did to us with their receivers height in the second quarter is a grim example
Keep it in perspective
not so much
the receiver height, its just that we refused to press them on the line.
the receivers had ample time to get into their route, and additionally had an extremely competant qb to throw the ball. this is what killed us against OSU in 2007, and somewhat against iowa last year.
im not saying a reversal in our defensive strategy would have won the game, but at least it would have been interesting.
we stopped running the FB draw on 1rst and goal, and we started piling up TDs. a change of defensive philosophy in this area is due.

How can we forget...
The recruit Devon Smith with his 4.2-3ish speed. He should be finding the field in special cases as well.
Devon Smith has "token reverse guy" written all over him.
I will bang my head for 2-3 years before we put him in a formation where it isn’t COMPLETELY OBVIOUS that PSU’s offense is running a reverse. See: Williams, Derrick, c. 2006
Wide Receivers of the future
According to Blue White Illustrated: “With verbal commitments from Shawney Kersey, Brandon Felder, Devon Smith, Christian Kuntz, Derrick Thomas, and another possible from Justin Brown, could this be the best wideout class to commit under Joe Paterno?”

Makes me wonder
Are Christian Kuntz much different than Hebrew Kuntz?
