Utah goes 13-0, beats 'Bama by 14
But, since the SEC actually showed up in its other bowl games, Alabama won't be crucified by the media. Tide had 208 yards of total offense, gave up 21 points in the first quarter. Somehow this was a prettier 2 touchdown loss than the Rose Bowl, I guess.
Utah won't get the national love that USC will, even though they beat the team that beat the lads from Troy. If the Rose/Sugar Bowls aren't proof of the need for a playoff, then the system is hopeless.

MMMMMMWWWWWWCCCCCCCC SSSSPPEEEDDD
We all new that the SEC couldn’t hang with the mountain west conferences speed, especially on defense. And furthermore if I hear one more announcer talk about speed and who has it I am going to speed over and smack them.
We just needed a couple players, a couple people to buy in to the fact and we were able to do it. --A.Q. Shipley
Surprised
Zug didn’t get all the votes…
Anyway, nice game by Utah last night. The SEC is OVER-RATED!!!!! Except for Fla, no one scares me at all.
Today there are a few awesome programs that just re-load.
USC
Florida
OSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Next tier that every 3-5 years makes a run
PSU
Utah
VT
UM (Bad year big time though)
Georgia
Team that used to matter
K-state
UCLA
Fla St.
Miami
ND
I would agree...
…but don’t forget LSU in the top tier. They reload as well as the rest and have 2 MNC’s in the last few years.
Top 10 programs in the nation over last the last couple years (in no particular order and I don’t count non-BCS teams)
USC, OSU, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, PSU, VaTech, Georgia, West Virginia
WE ARE.......PENN STATE!
The Hoopies are about to hit a slide
Pat White was a 4-year bag of wins, combine his graduation with the lame duck coach they emotionally hired 2 years ago and I think they have a losing season next year. Sure, they won’t collapse and fall off the map for 10 years because more recruits than years before will still show up but it’ll take a few seasons before they get back to the BCS.
Unfortunately you’re right, LSU is not going away any time soon. Georgia 2009 will = LSU 2008. Oklahoma 2009 will = Texas 2007. And Texas next year will = Texas 2008 + Oklahoma 2008. Yikes. VaTech seems likely to return to the 11-1 type of team they churn out every few years. And USC will always = USC 12-0 minus 1 non-sensical loss to a 6-6 team. And apologies for the crappy math theme.
wait wait wait
Im not flamming here but i just had to comment on the “The SEC is OVER-RATED!!!!!” comment.
First off i will say that the SEC had a down year. Some usual powerhouses took a step back and others were breaking in new head coaches. Thats not an excuse, its the truth.
Bama benefited greatly by some of these teams not being their best. We did go 12-0 to start the season and didn’t lose to any barely bowl eligible teams (hello Iowa), stayed focused all year but slipped up at the end. If UF wins the NC, then bama will have lost to the the NC’s and the only undefeated team in the country. I say thats not to bad for a team thats made up of mainly freshmen and upper classmen that are play well over their heads.
So is the SEC overrated? Sure, if you go by pre-season polls which are useless. Is the Big-10 overrated? I guess thats a question best left up to you guys.
Anyways, i just wanted to put my two cents in. Great job this season and better luck next time.
When you are an Alabama fan you are expected to hate Auburn, I hate Tennessee because I want to.
Get over it, PSU fans
I mean, it’s not too crazy for Utah fans, in the wake of an emotional upset win, to try and make the ‘Oregon State transitive property’ argument. But Penn State fans know darn well that’s silly (so do Oregon fans and Stanford fans). Utah is the only team of the four that that beat Oregon State that didn’t lose to USC — and that’s almost certainly because they didn’t play.
What are we supposed to get over?
I think we just empathize with a team that had an undefeated season and didn’t even get to play for a national title. Frankly, USC lost too. They are no more deserving of a national title than anybody, especially Utah.

On the contrary...
… they’re just as deserving of a national title as Utah and the BCS title game and Texas (if they beat Ohio State, which I don’t think they will; a Buckeyes win and an Oklahoma win that completely smash any kind of conference superiority arguments seems destined to happen this season).
you honestly
didn’t think Texas would be OSU?

Maybe
Utah and Alabama aren’t that good. We’ll never know.
Past tense of smite?
From the Two Towers script. I left the rest of his quote, after the smote, in, for it may be relevant to some of we PSU fans.
[Gandalf holds up Glamdring and a flash of lightning strikes it before he plunges the sword into the Balrog. With a final cry, the Balrog falls from the peak and lands, smoking, onto the icy mountainside.]
Gandalf: (V.O.)
Until at last, I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside. Darkness took me. And I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead and each day was as long as a life age of the earth. But it was not the end. I felt life in me again. I’ve been sent back until my task is done.
