Devon Smith runs fast.
Ran a 6.21 55m. I have no idea what that means, but apparently it was the fastest time for a highschool kid this year.
I can't wait to see what this kid can do on the field.

Context
The men’s 55m is not a very popular sprint, and as far as I know the IAAF has never officially kept a record for it. But a 6.21 is about a tenth off of Olympic-level speed and a quarter second off of a world “best” time. This kid is fast. Does he have plans to run track in college?

Position?
What do we do with a kid of that diminutive stature? RB? Slot receiver? Punt returner?
Imagine a combo of Dukes and Smith in a few years giving us a little thunder and lightning. That would be pretty funny to see a 6’2" 230lbs back pound away and then a 5’ nothing 150lbs kid zip around like a rabbit in a field…
That’s why I love college football — every recruiting class introduces these enticing possibilities.

Are you kiddin' me?
You know what Joe Paterno will do with him. Line him up in the backfield and tell him to follow the fullback.

He should be returning kickoffs next year.
I don’t care if you can only get the ball in his hands three times per game. Find a way.

what about Green?
He’s developed so well this season I believe he’ll be nasty on returns. Royster and him make a good combo, but you’ve got to get Green the ball more often next season. I know he didn’t exactly have a break-out season, but for a backup RB I thought he was electrifying.

Thunder and Lightning
Would describe the way I felt watching Green’s 50yd screen, performance in the open field against the omg speed of omg usc D, and then fumbling it away at the end of the play. Lightning coming down the field, Thunder turning it over for them to make it 31-7.

Hard to tell.
The KR spots are kind of weird. Williams is gone, so there’s one open spot. Powell seems to be the main option, which leaves a number of other guys (Wallace, Green, Smith, A.J. Price) to be the other guy.

Green...eh
I’d love for the kid to get some strength.
After watching the Chargers/Colts game, I realized the similarities between Green and Darren Sproles…both miniscule at their levels and freakishly quick. But the downside to being small is that the ball gets ripped out of your arms more often. Despite some flashes of brilliance, neither one will really be an every down kind of guy. They’re just too small.
