Hurry up / No huddle
Has PSU ever run the no huddle or hurry up offense? Next season we're returning a hell of a good QB and RB tandem. We should really take note of what Texas did to Ohio State when they went no huddle for one series: 7 points and the Ohio st. team couldn't get back to the line they were so gassed. Texas could have marched down the field on substitution and encroachment penalties alone. It was pathetic. Ok did something similar although not as dramatic to Florida.
We actually had a puncher's chance toward the end of the USC game -- and going no huddle would have at least given the impression we were there to win the game instead of just fighting for pride. But we huddled up with no urgency, just like we always do.
Does anyone remember us running the no huddle?

I remember!
But it was in a “2 Minute” situation. As I recall, we still didn’t execute it with any sense of urgency. We were slow to get to the line and slow to get they play in.
Settle it on the field!
Our famous 2 min offense...
that takes us 6 min to execute.

No huddle / Hurry up
Is that what Oklahoma was doing last night? Of all my years watching PSU and the Eagles, I’ve never seen something like that, that was truly remarkable!
{sarcasm off}
We should definitely look into it…don’t know why we haven’t already. It’s clearly difficult for defenses to react when they aren’t ready for it in the 1st/2nd/3rd Qtr.
i know nothing but
it seems like if you convert a 3rd and short, and the other team has their “heavy” personel out there, you can just turn on the no huddle, keep their fatties out there, and start dicing them up before they can substitute or get set.
Teams like Ohio State send out the beefy 3rd and short linement that can’t play more than a few downs before they’re completely gassed. You force them to call a timeout, take a penalty, or play with the wrong personel.
but like I said, maybe it doesn’t work like that, I’m no coach…
Kinda hard to run a no huddle
When it takes two guys just to call the plays (Hall for the running plays and JayPa for the passing plays)

Oklahoma’s playcalling system puts our’s to shame, especially with the 3-man signaling system they got there. I think on one of the plays last night when running the no huddle it took them like 8 seconds between snaps to run the next play.

I will never understand why we break up the playcalling like that
Since in my mind (and whenever I play playstation against friends, not the computer) I orchestrate my playcalling to “set up” a certain play or set of plays. Like for example (really “simple” example) I’d maybe run off tackle to the right, run an option to the right, eventually get him to cheat his secondary over in that direction, and then hit a slant or out or streak out to the left. Obviously playstation and real football are 2 VERY different beasts, but I’d imagine the play planning, etc, would be even more critical in a real game.
I don’t see why they can’t set up a general gameplan ahead of time and send in a sequence of 3 or 4 plays, like, “1st play: WR screen to the right. If that makes it 2nd and less than 3, then try a deep pass play, otherwise run the option to try to at least make it 3rd & short, etc”
I mean hell, my 11 yr old nephew is able to run an offense like that on his Pee-wee team where his coach sends him a few situational plays in advance, so I don’t see why guys with 10 more years of football experience can’t handle the same.
Now my obligatory proud uncle rave: that kid is sweet. I can’t believe how good he looks playing QB, and he’s only friggen 11. Before games, without his coach even knowing, he’d bring his WRs out an hour early and practice some of their routes until he got the timing down perfect. I don’t really know what it was for, I think some recruiting service or whatever, but my brother in law showed me a video of Ron Jaworski and Blair Thomas doing a recap of one of his games…I think maybe their championship game. Of course Blair Thomas completely butchered his name, but oh well :-p Unfortunately I think my nephew prefers pitching over football, and my sister is all too eager to get him out of the “dangerous sport”.

No huddle
seems to be more effective when you’re a pass-first offense, like Oklahoma or Texas. Running offenses don’t really seem to fit the mold of a no-huddle offense
