I don't like Paterno, I'll be real honest.
From the notes of the radio show:
"Cavanaugh has always had a straightforward approach to recruiting. He's honest with players. Some coaches will promise playing time, etc., but you can't do that. In 40 years of coaching, Cav has told just one recruit he would start as a freshman, and he was a prep school recruit. That was Mike Quick, who played in the NFL for a long time. Even Michael Vick redshirted.
Cav doesn't like Penn State because they have some questionable recruiting tactics. They make promises to players that they don't keep. They promised Michael Robinson he would play quarterback, but they didn't put him there until his senior season."
I was informed of this guy's butthurt by my boss's boss (enormous Tech fan). It seems to be the general consensus down here in Hokieland that PSU steals recruits by making empty promises while Tech's recruiters are up-front and honest.
And to that, I say a big "Waaahhhhh, crybabies". Maybe, just maybe, we're raiding your territory because we're a far more attractive program and you can't erect a Great Wall of 'Stache like Pitt. Everyone thinks their program is on the up-and-up, and when they come up short to one school routinely on the recruiting trail (Robinson, Newsome, Zwinak, etc), they resort to the tried-and-true stance of "they lie and cheat" as opposed to recognizing their own shortcomings.

Correct me if I'm wrong
but didn’t MROb not go to V Tech b/c on his visit there he stayed with Vick who talked MROB out of VaTechso that Marcus could be the QB?
How could Nixon know so little about Watergate and so much about football ?

Is that true?
Wow, Michael Vick apparently was always a douche. But thanks Mike, we owe you one for Robinson!

Are our guys making promises
that they’re not keeping? We as PSU fans throw this on a lot of other coaches, interesting to see that farther down the food chain they’re doing the same thing to PSU. As a homer I always thought PSU coaches were pretty straight shooters.
Since he singled out MRob as being promised a shot at QB and he did play QB is that considered a big fat lie by our coaches. Since Michael Robinson is still a huge PSU booster, I would say he’s not holding a grudge.

What a whiner
You should ask Robinson how he feels about his time at PSU. Considering he was the ultimate team player and the best athlete on the team I’d think he should feel pretty happy about his time. All of Nittany Nation loves him and he’s making a living in the NFL.
Tool.

Every team says this stuff about every other team.
So it’s hard to be surprised by this. I’d love to hear more examples, though. MRob did get snaps before his senior year, and there is a difference between getting a shot and having the whole thing handed to you. MRob was not the starting QB in 2003 or 2004 because he wasn’t the best QB on the team…his passing that year was horrible.
But I agree with psuphiman80, this is just your typical crybaby stuff.

What kills me
is the guy is almost trying to paint Paterno as unethical. That’s like trying to make a firm argument that Mother Theresa was involved with Mexican donkey shows. Yeah, we’re all going to believe that Paterno, who is the architect of the Grand Experiment, has no major NCAA infractions in his career, and stresses the importance of grades and conduct, openly and willingly lies to high school kids. And if it weren’t for those lies, Tech would snag better talent.
Yeah, ok pal.

But, but, but...
Zwinak was a VT legacy and he’s going to Penn State, so that proves it! Right?
I’m no lawyer (just a third year law student), but I think that argument would hold up anywhere.

and we are just hearing about this now? After all this time? Really?

I find it very hard to believe
any recruiter attached to Penn State, let alone Joe himself, would blatantly lie to a prospective student athlete. I truly believe that Joe Paterno is a very honest man, and any coach employed by PSU also tries to abide by the ethics set forth by Joe Pa. It would take some hard to evidence to convince me otherwise, and not just a mediocre program with a grudge throwing out ridiculous accusations.
Also, you totally said erect. Hehe.
