Iowa can win this, I don't see them winning

against Wisc, MSU, tOSU. Probably 2 losses there. So for tonight I would like to see them win.

World Cup Soccer

hundreds of teams compete over 4 yrs to qualify for a massive tournament where the final two may end in a scoreless tie where they kick balls at a guy standing in front of something the size of a garage door and often miss. That while they roll around in excruciating pain if touched until the magic water bottle is administered by the trng staff and then they are fine as long as the guy in the black socks holds up a credit card.

I just cannot get into it. I really tried.. sorry

I'll give you the acting

and rolling around on the ground – gets very tiresome for me too. But there’s something about the strategy, the movement around the field the precision, the fact that you have a limited number of opportunities to score and you better make the most of each trip. To me, it’s a bigger, on grass version of hockey. And when a player hits it right, it’s a thing of beauty.

That, and I have apparently found excitement in almost all forms of competition that they’re willing to put on TV.

I never compared the players

just the game itself. I’ll always give the advantage to hockey players when it comes to the athleticism and toughness. But in terms of the game itself, when played well – both are so beautiful to watch with the strategy, positioning, and precision needed to succeed.

But just FYI

For us to still win the Big Ten we either need:

A) A three way tie (Iowa beats us, we beat tOSU, and tOSU beats Iowa) which since (luckily actually) our loss came earliest and us vs. tOSU and Iowa vs. tOSU are both November games, would likely put us higher in the BCS standings, which is the Big Ten’s tie breaker, and we run the table from here out.

B) Iowa drops two somewhere, we beat tOSU and run the table.

my 2 cents

Iowa and Wiscy are still “big 10” teams. Everyone else seems to get where college football is going. They will always be a tough out for a more talented team, but are not built for a true NC run. Iowa fans are happy with 8-3 with an upset each year. Their expectations are not the same as PSU/OSU/Mich. They will never have the skill players that the better teams have so they must “ugly” the game down….turnovers and field position….If Iowa goes 3-3 the rest of the way this will still be a good year.

When the women won the World Cup whenever that was against China a few years ago in PKs at the end, I was staying in the dorms here during arts fest week instead of a hotel (my parents wanted to try out the dorms with my sister and I, and it’s actually a lot cheaper than a hotel would be for Arts fest) anyway, we stayed in Thompson in west halls. Thompson is where I got assigned to this year. But the room that my family watched that world cup win in, is 20 yds away from where I’m currently living.

depends what she wants to do

right now she wants to be an astronaut (no lie) and then PSU is a great choice… if she goes back to wanting to be a dr then back to UCLA I am guessing :)

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten away with the, “But you bought Tracy (my sister) [enter item here, usually clothes she didn’t need], and I never ask for anything….” argument.

I'm kind of curious

how they’re going to turn such a short book (I looked it up, it was only ten sentences) into a feature length book, but from what I’ve seen, the CGI’d characters look incredible and just how I remember them from the book.

Fun reading your posts tonight

Hey, you guys have a good team. Iowa does not get the respect it deserves because we get all we can get out of our players. Someone said it earlier, we do not get the skill players like the traditional powers. So yes, we are usually content with a 10 win season, but we expect to compete for the Rose Bowl once every 4 years. But considering our recruiting base, could you ask for more?

by vahawk on Oct 11, 2009 12:39 AM EDT reply actions

hey good luck to you guys and all that

but I am pretty sure that here at BSD most people are going to be hoping for whatever works out in Penn State’s favor. Sounds weird, I know… and it may just be me but that’s how this board works

Yeah, I've been a bit hard tonight on the Hawks

and I apologize, but it all stems from the pain of the antichris- I mean Daniel Murray caused us last year.

But good luck to you, you’ve got a hell of a defense, and beat us fair and square, no matter how much the losses hurt.

Its your board

You can be as hard on us as any of us would be on Jenna Jameson circa 2003. Not so much now, kind of looks like an alien.

by ReadingRambler on Oct 11, 2009 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions

The real problem about Iowa for PSU is

that we play similiar to the way you guys did up to the 90s. We play solid and usually do not beat oursleves (your weekly Stanziball not included). And for some reason, Paterno goes back to his old ways and plays conservative against us. He has the talent to kill us, but he is afraid of making a big mistake. And when you play not to lose, sometimes you end up losing.

by vahawk on Oct 11, 2009 12:41 AM EDT reply actions

Thanks

One thing I notice about Iowa is that they NEVER panic. First there was the disastrous 10-0 hole they fell into at PSU and then the Stanziball to open up the Michigan game tonight. Both times, they’ve managed to collect themselves and recover. Your game at OSU on Nov 14th may very well be for all the marbles in the Big Ten.

I am guessing it still comes down to the OSU-PSU game

We probably split the Wis/MSU road trip, and then lose in the Shoe. We could potentially pull it off, but Stanzi’s play has to kill us eventually.

by vahawk on Oct 11, 2009 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah...your D can only save you so many times

like ours did at OSU last year

We decide when you hear the snap count...

by thedrizzle on Oct 11, 2009 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions

True

I see us getting beat BAD at least once this year. I think we have given up 4 pick-6 already this year. That is TERRIBLE!! Not even Pryor and Juice combined have done that.

by vahawk on Oct 11, 2009 12:51 AM EDT up reply actions

I think the scariest thing

is that tOSU showed today that they are actually more productive when Pryor and the offense don’t ever see the field.

Yeah I talked to my dad about your game tonight after our game today at 3:30

Someone had given Michigan the better odds to win, and I told him, your offense, while probably your biggest weakness, is probably better than scUM’s D. And your D is >>>>>>>> than Michigan’s O (despite how close the game ended up being)

the way it seems to me

any new buildings (save for maybe the BJC, if you can still consider that new) built with donor funds are named after them. usually athletic buildings don’t come from private donors (except that new softball facility they just announced). i guess what i’m saying…is i have no idea what i’m saying.
