Deon Butler: An NFL Rookie's Diary
Came across this today. Deon Butler and Seattle Times sports columnist Jerry Brewer began a weekly diary about what life in the NFL is like for a rookie. It's published every Friday.
The link above is for the Sept 19th (1st) edition. Links to other editions below:

these are great
sends my heart-a-flutter to hear he is still passionate about penn state football.
speaking of post-graduation passion…i saw on SNF that Ed Johnson does the “i’m not gonna mention my college when i introduce myself” thing…but who didn’t see that coming.

That may very well be his last time to not mention it

He has been cut and resigned by them 150 times
He’ll wind up somewhere, he is very good when his head isn’t up his arse

Did he graduate?
My guess is not and that’s usually the reason. Also didn’t he leave on less than great terms?
Arrington did the high school thing for a while too.

I believe he graduated in Spring 2007
In his senior year, he was suspended from the team just prior to the ’07 Outback Bowl. Before that, he was suspended for the ’05 Summer & Spring semesters as well as the ’04 Spring Practice and Summer semester.

Indeed he isn't!
What a guy. Love that guy! Thanks heaps for this link, SurfingLion! I can’t think of a better guy to hear stories about the NFL like this one from:
“Who’s the most intimidating guy in the locker room? Walt is real easygoing and funny, but it’s still like, ’He’s Walter Jones.’ What did I ask him one time? I know he’s been to, like, a gajillion Pro Bowls, and he’s the best thing at left tackle. But we were just talking, and I was like, ‘You got drafted in the first round, right?’ He just looked at me like he was about to smack me or something, and then he looked around at everybody else, and they were looking at me like I said something totally wrong. Then Walt said, ‘Yeah, I got drafted in the first round!’ I asked, ‘Well, what draft was that?’ I kind of got defensive. I didn’t know. And then he told me it was the 1997 draft. I said, ‘I was 11 years old, dog! I wasn’t watching the draft then.’ So it kind of lightened the mood. He started joking about how young I am.

The last song I did was Bell Biv Devoe’s ‘Poison.’ All the guys knew that. So that took them back to their middle-school, lunchbox days.
Those were good days—the middle school, lunchbox days.

Refreshing to see an NFL player who can speak intelligently, too.
Very proud of Butler, hopefully he has a long, productive career. Shame the Seahawks don’t still have Engram, they might have been my favorite team….

True
That’s a pretty decent organization to land in for a rookie. Good town, good owner, great fans, nice stadium. Young Butler will be just fine.

Sadly he's not doing great
The only part of the Seahawk’s team that isn’t decimated by injuries is the receiving corps, and he’s struggling to get much playing time there. When he does, he’s susceptible to bump coverage, and his football speed doesn’t seem to match his 40 time. Also he hasn’t developed into the KR/PR stud they anticipated.
All that being said, these are all typical rookie problems (especially considered he never had KR/PR duties at State), and it’s not like he was a first round pick who they expected to immediately contribute. There’s a real good chance 2 of the top 3 WRs on the ‘Hawks are gone next year, so a #2 WR position will be his for the taking. KR/PR . . . I don’t know what to say really. The man just kinda sucks at it so far, and they really really wanted him to go gangbusters at that. I think they’ll be patient with him tho.
Do I know what rhetorical means?
