Boise's lackluster national showing
Did anyone else watch the Boise St./Tulsa game last night and cringe when they realized Boise is likely going to end up in a BCS bowl. They are not a top 5 team nor even a top 10 team. Their biggest victory is an overrated Oregon team that will lose at least two more games (and should have lost to Big 10 bottom dweller - Purdue). Though PSU's OOC is weak at least we have to go through a decent conference scheule including the likes of Iowa, Michigan, OSU and M. St. Even Minny this week is not a gimmie game.
Seriously there is NO WAY Boise belongs in the BCS. Yes a team like Boise or Utah may garner and occasional victory. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut on occasion. The point is they do not belong in the elite bowl games until they play and succeed in a schedule that requires them to succeed against quality opposition week in and week out. I guess the question is why do Poll voters succomb to the trend of putting a team like Boise in their top-10? If the polls are actually supposed to be a guage who the top teams in the country are, Boise has no place in the top 10 of any poll and certainly no place in the BCS discussion.

I agree.
The defense was terrible – poor tackling, lacking in discipline (they over-pursued obvious screens repeatedly), it was just an ugly game.
BUT, BUT… Tulsa put up sooo many points on Big XII SKILLZZZ Oklahoma, so Boise must have even more of those SKILLZZZ.

your first mistake was doing a 5 team parley
Stick with 3 teams….easier to manage.

I usually opt for the teaser as well.
She never returns my calls, though. LOL!
Seriously, though, what’s the sweet action this week? Other than Iowa going off at -3.

Boise St.
is still getting a lot of mileage out of beating Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl a couple of years ago. But the win over Oregon is solid, and any road win is good, so I’d say they deserve the top 10, if not #5.

That's no fair
Why we don’t get any mileage out of beating #1 Miami in the Fiesta Bowl a couple of years ago?

Ok, I’ll give them Oregon. But the rest of that OOC schedule is arguably weaker than even ours. Every other game they play is against WAC opponents. Yes, the Big Ten is down, but I still think a Minnesota/Purdue would stomp an Idaho/New Mexico State.
Personally, after winning at Tulsa I can’t see them jumping ANYONE even if they win out. Their strength of schedule has nowhere to go but down.

WTF....Don't know what happened there...
It doesn’t matter if they jump anyone. At this point they are playin in a BCS game. And I defintely agree with Kevin….if Boise is the only undeafted team at the end of the season…..there is going to be a lot of noise about “fairness” and who should play for the NC.
I thought only safeties played 15 yards off the ball?

Playoff
That would solve it…..no way does Boise St. beat two solid teams in a row.

Then what would we argue about?

Every team can have an ugly win.
and a road win in Tulsa is not as easy as it seems.

Like in 2004, when my Hawkeyes went into Central Pennsylvania. Facing a tenacious Penn State defense, the Hawks could only score 6 points. But lo! The incredible Norm Parker-coached defense held a game Nittany Lion offense to 0 points. Truly an incredible win for Iowa’s proud program!
I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Yeah
I don’t get the Boise hate — a midweek game, two time zones and 1,500 miles away? Playing on a grass field for the first time all year against a team on a ten game home winning streak? If you’re going to complain, then you sacrifice your right to bitch about the Big 10 getting its ass handed to it regularly on the West Coast. This is a team that has taken care of its business for a decade.
by gumbercules on Oct 15, 2009 8:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Seriously....
Tulsa….did you watch the game? And what “business” has Boise taken care off? An overrated Oregon team that will end up with at least 3 if not 4 losses? What the hell does a mid-week game have to do with anything? The opponent was unranked and still they struggled/
Add Cincy to the list of top 10 teams having no right to be there and no right to a BCS berth.

Cincy....
is a good team. Probably the best D1 team in Ohio. Boise is a decent team. Yes, the WAC stinks, but what are they supposed to do? It’s not like the PAC 10 is going to ask them to join and I doubt the Mt. West powers (Utah, BYU, TCU) want another program of their caliber.
Never mistake effort for achievement.

You sure about that?
Granted, I have no info to sway anyone’s opinion, but the addition of Boise couldn’t hurt the MWC’s attempts to gain an auto-bid in the BCS.

MWC will get the BSC status without...
BSU. The whole congressional charade was leverage for when they come up for consideration. Maybe the MWC wants BSU, but I’m sure it would have happened by now if both parties were interested. However, the MWC has only 9 football members and adding one would give it a nice round number.
I dont’ think BSU is as good as their ranking, but I find the arguments against them interesting as they are similar to the one’s PSU heard circa 68-72.

Cincy and the Bucs
I know it is the trendy thing to say Cincy is the best team in Ohio…..but after watching them against USF, I don’t see it. As bad as the Buckeye offense played against Wisco, OSU still outmans and beats Cincy. Cincy has problems on defense and doesn’t have dominating talent on offense. The QB is good but the WRs and RBs are average at best. I do think they win the Big East….but what is that saying really?
As for Boise…..IMO in order for them to say they are a top 10/5 deserving team they need to work on scheduling. One Pac-10 team doesn’t cut it. BYU is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Bronco went out and scheduled games with Oklahoma and FSU. Additionally the MWC has ranked teams in Utah and TCU so its not like BYU beats Oklahoma and cruises the rest of the year to the MWC title. In fact they lost to FSU and are yet to play the two best teams in their conference. Boise beat an average Oregon team and plays no one in conference. They have struggled with two subpar opponents and don’t deserve to be counted amoung the top 10 teams in the country. PSU is #13……do you really think Boise would beat them?

tongue in cheek, but I like Cinncy’s offense a lot more than tO$U’s.
