What is the arboretum?
And why are they webcamming the construction site?
"How many things do you do where you are involved with 110,000 other people on the same page? Unless you're in an English class cheating with 30 other guys."
by psu on Oct 15, 2009 3:40 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
The arboretum is kind of a park
they built it on the old tailgate lot right across from the business building and to the left of the law building. It’s essentially a bunch of young trees, a lily pad pond, and a fountain at the moment, but they’re planning on building more in addition to what’s already done now, so it’s why it’s still a “construction site”.

from my window i normally have an excellent view of Beaver, but not today, I can’t see it cause of the snow

I took this right outside my dorm room in Thompson

It’s sticking to the trees and grass, but the sidewalks and roads are essentially icy slush (and not the kind you can easily walk on where it just splats around your feet), and it’s been falling at a fairly good rate constantly all day. Luckily the weather says it’s not going to go to go below freezing (close or right at 32) tonight, so that slush won’t turn to ice and make walking tomorrow a major Pryor.

I’m glad to not be trecking 1/2 a mile to class in the wind and snow for a monday 8am class in the damn west end of campus.

Across the frozen tundra
Sophomore year, winter trimester (I’m showing my age) I had the worst schedule. I lived in Ewing and had an 8:00 class in Wagner and then had to walk across campus passing through frozen tundra known as East Halls which wasn’t as built up as it is now. There were no wind breaks and the wind whipped off of lot 43 and froze everything in its path. My journey went by the Forum, past Pattee and ended up at Walker Building for one class and them back to south halls. It was ridiculous but scheduling classes back then in the IM building was no treat (again showing my age) and you took what you could get. I was never one to wait for hours hoping someone would return a class card that fit my schedule better.

I had 8am swimming at the Nat.
If I forgot to carefully dry my eyelashes after the pool
my lids would freeze shut whenever I blinked while I was riding
my bike to my next class in Osmond.

Thats when you know it's cold as hell
Last semester right after winter break, it was so cold up here, when you breathed through your nostrils you could feel the snot instantly freeze inside your nose, and then have it instantly warm up again when you exhale through your nose.

by ReadingRambler on Oct 15, 2009 5:53 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's just swine flu, which is essentially a more contagious regular flu
so, while I haven’t spoken to her (for my own personal health’s sake since I haven’t gotten, nor plan to risk getting sick if I can), I’m assuming she’s just holed up in her room under a quilt or something, coughing sneezing, etc. The only reason I found out was when my Dad called me to talk about dinner plans for when my family comes up for homecoming weekend tomorrow.

I’m pretty sure at that time if you typed in “beer” to google image search, that was one of the first pictures that came up. So… I guess yes, I gave every single person on staff a certificate that had her picture as one part of the design.
