My only nitpick
is that he conflates winning the conference with the BCS berth, and as we all know, the Big Ten can have many conference winners, just like in pre-school. He says Iowa must lose twice for PSU to win the conference — that’s not true. Iowa need only lose once. They’ll still be the BCS rep, but we get that hollow “you won the conference but we really know who won the conference so if you have any self respect pretend you didn’t win it” trophy that OSU has earned a few times.

The vicious circle scenario
Iowa beats Penn State who beats Ohio State who beats Iowa.
Highest ranked team in the BCS Standings gets the BCS bid. That’ll be Penn State.
So we need to win out, and have Ohio State beat Iowa in Columbus.
Beat Michigan.

Oh and Ohio State would have to win out
Ironically enough.
Beat Michigan.

You forgot about
OSU’s loss to Purdue.

Also the loss to USC
Overall win % is before BCS rank, so I would assume OSU gets the book in that tiebreaker, then you start over from the top with PSU-Iowa, where we lose again.
What’s interesting is that I’m pretty sure we would have won the BCS tiebreaker had it been a three-way tie between 11-1 teams. Penn State had the first loss and last “big” win, so the human polls would love us by default.

Not true
Ohio State lost to Purdue, so if they lose to us it’s a two way tie between us and Iowa. Iowa wins due to head to head.
The hopes for a three way tie went out the window when OSU choked against Purdue. And even in that scenario, PSU would have lost the BCS bid. The only way PSU goes to the Rose Bowl is if they win out and Iowa drops two games.

Unless Iowa goes to the national title game
It’s unlikely, but if Iowa wins out & Texas loses and/or the winner of Florida/Alabama SEC title game has another loss, Iowa would probably make the title game. Then, if we win out, we could get the 2nd BCS slot for the Big Ten & I bet the Rose Bowl would take us.
I think it is much more likely that if we win out, we go to a different BCS game & Iowa goes to the Rose Bowl.

But we're co-Big Ten champs if OSU beats Iowa
and we win out. Sort of like how OSU & PSU shared the title in 05 & 08. Iowa just gets the Rose Bowl.

Agree Wholeheartedly
Let us remember what Ohio State has taught us, and not muddle two conversations into one:
Two entirely different designations:
1. The Big Ten Champion (or, if you’re OSU, Co-Champion)
2. Who Goes to the BCS Rose Bowl

I can't believe
Minnesota is still in it.
Also, if they somehow win this weekend, which they won’t, there will be meltdown like the internets has never seen.

oooohhh
I will enjoy my fly on the wall status immensely if Goldy goes into Columbus and emerges with a victory.

Dude
I wouldn’t count it out. That OSU offense is baaaaad. If TP has another four turnovers, anything can happen. Even if he has 4 turnovers and they win it won’t be pretty in Buckeye Blogistan.

That would be fun to watch

The game would be awful
As are all games involving this incarnation of OSU.

Does anyone think:
its possible for iowa to lose two games?
(im definitely thinking one, doubtful about 2)

With the way Pryor has been playing though
and against a defense like Iowa’s, the chances this year go up tremendously for the win in Columbus.

An Iowa win gets more and more likely every week
But they have many a past demon to battle in that place.

It's very possible.
They’ve come up small against some inferior teams this year and have been lucky to escape with wins. Plus, I don’t have a lot of faith that their offense can do much without a totally lockdown performance on defense and good field position.

I found an issue in this article
“If Iowa doesn’t lose twice Penn State is eliminated from winning the conference”
How come OSU can claim a big ten title in the years we beat them head to head but both ended up with one conference loss, yet we are eliminated from winning the conference if Iowa and us have equal records.
For the record, I am not a fan of sharing championships, particularly if there is head to head, and would recognize Iowa if we both end up with one loss as the B10 champ. But I feel we should be allowed to decide if we won a B10 championship this year if we both end up with one loss, much like Ohio State gets to.

How come OSU can claim a big ten title in the years we beat them head to head but both ended up with one conference loss, yet we are eliminated from winning the conference if Iowa and us have equal records.
Semantics. The article’s quote ‘winning the conference’ should more specifically state ‘winning the tiebreakers to go to the Rose Bowl.’
As to paragraph three, I’m mostly with you. But I feel in that scenario we already ARE allowed to ‘decide if we won.’ In a two-way tie with a team who beat us head to head, I’m with you and would ‘decide’ that we did not win and would never rock such a shirt.
Lastly, the Moo Point Reminder: we must win at Michigan this weekend!

What's the more unlikely scenario?
Iowa losing 2 more Big Ten games or Penn State winning out?
Because I can see Iowa losing to MSU and tOSU before I see PSU running the table against scUM, NW, OSU and MSU. Don’t let the Illinois and Minnesota kool aid fool you. This team has another loss in them.

Not that it will be easy
but with your defense, I’d be surprised if you didn’t run the table.
And yes, I can totally see Iowa losing at least 1, if not more, games. Then again, I am completely paranoid right now. We’re not used to this.

That's the million dollar question this week
I’d say, based on what I’ve seen (PSU vs. all 6 opponents; Iowa vs PSU, Mich, Wiscy), I’d agree with you: it’s more UNLIKELY that PSU will run the table. We’re getting better, every damn week, and it will take an opportunistic opponent (more likely OSU & MSU than the other two, imo), but we haven’t yet developed enough across the board mental/testicular fortitude to avoid the sense that we’ve got another loss in us.
The Minny game in the Beav showed us more than just mere koolaid (we were pretty damn dominant, but also lacked a necessary killer instinct), but this weekend in the Whore’s Nest will show us far more in the all-important fortitude department.
Iowa, otoh, has demonstrated it in spades.
