He underestimates Moye
"It's like a bad rave, only in place of the hypnotic effects of your grandfather's oxycontin, there's an actual octogenerian screaming gibberish over a thumping beat."

Yeah
It’s a very fair post, except for one paragraph
Michigan actually has a decent chance of matching up against Penn State’s receivers. 6’5" deep threat Derrick Moye is threatening, but he hasn’t done much outside of the Akron game to start the year and last week’s Minnesota game where he had 6 catches for 120 yards and a touchdown. Neither Warren or Woolfolk should have much trouble running with him and they’ve got good size for corners; while I can see a fade here and there I don’t think Moye is the kind of guy who Michigan’s going to have a huge amount of trouble with. Penn State’s got a tiny white possession slot receiver in Graham Zug; I assume he’ll reel in a few balls underneath the coverage and maybe a corner or something but Michigan should match up okay with him, too.
Well, we know that Moye is very good, and he’s really not a fade type player. We’ve run him down the middle of the field, he’s our deep threat in addition to being 6’5, and Clark has JUSTMISSEDHIM like a dozen times. If he connects on one ball where Moye has a step, like he did to Powell to start the Iowa game, and there’s always one of those chances a game, it’s a TD. Next, Zug is like 6’3, and not afraid to go over the middle. White guy, sure. Small? Nope. And also, he’s Zug.

I think so, too.
Moye’s already becoming one of the top shelf WR’s in the conference.

I mean, I don't mean to bash him
But the fact that we’re this far into the season and everyone still thinks we’re badly missing Derrick Willams is starting to get annoying.

Moye
Brian says Moye only had good games against Akron and Minnesota. He should look at Zug’s and Powell’s numbers in the other games.

I agree
PSU can throw for 300+ in this game if they want to. I don’t think they will, but our secondary is just that bad.
I also think Minor and Brown will each go over 100 yards, with Denard adding another 60 or so.
Red zone success will determine the winner.

PSU's D can be gained against
But not by pounding it into our front 7. Keep in mind the number’s Brian dismisses are also with either Lee or Bowman (mostly) out and held up by the backups in many of the second half games. I think if the defense falters it’ll be from letting Michigan roll out and dip and dunk on a soft zone.

No sure Michigan can dink and dunk passes
At least not in the conventional sense. It’s been odd. We don’t have a high success rate at bubble screens this year. Part of that is Forcier scrambling out of the pocket so much. If anything, it seems we’re much better at the flush from pocket and hit crossing routes or comebackers. Just from my viewing experience.
by formerlyanonymous on Oct 23, 2009 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wow, really?
Seriously, I don’t mean this in a mocking fashion. I don’t remember a time when Michigan had trouble with bubble screens. I remember watching friggen Desmond Howard catching bubble screens.

A lot of teams have sold out to stop them
It’s not like we have a real deep threat to keep them honest in that capacity.
Add that our quarterbacks have a tendency to float the ball over there with poor accuracy. It’s made them less effective this year.

To summarize
Penn State’s stiff rushing defense numbers mean nothing and Michigan will be able to run the ball against them.
And Michigans defense, who gave up 30 points to Iowa and 33 points to Indiana, will play better against Penn State and only hold them to 21 points. All because they have a matchup advantage at ONE POSITION.
Therefore Michigan wins.

I love how UM people talk about the first half of last year,
Yeah, you were winning at the half. You know what happened next? 46-17. It really doesn’t matter if you had 4506 rushing yards in the first half of last year’s game.

Indeed
They point to last year’s results as a basis for rationally predicting 2-300 yards rushing tomorrow, while completely ignoring the entirely relevant data compiled this season, specifically two data points of poor rushing performances against average-to-sad Big Ten defenses.
