I thought it was kind of a dick move for Edsall to say he felt “completely empty” at the end of the game — your players went all-out out of respect for their fallen buddy. But when I saw him, he said he was sure how proud he would have been at how hard they fought etc. I interpreted the empty thing being about how unimportant the football game felt at that moment in general, not about the loss.
