Dear Guido...

When the Blue Band gets more air time and play time in an opposing team's stadium, the "Great Show" has become a bit too canned. When my post is less than 75 words long, my next few sentences will be a bit canned. Or Perhaps caned, you know, like in Singapore.18 more words will do it, aged like my favorite Scotch - The Macallan. 5 more now, 5 more.

Sincerely,

Lifelong Fan

Send this to him

Seriously, email him and tell him how much you liked hearing the band. Send a letter to the Collegian too.

Yeah we had a mic right behind us.

Seconded to what WFY said.

I was at the game and it was so nice to hear the band so much! They can play all of the songs that we play over the loudspeakers such as Zombie so why do we insist on blasting them in and ruining the college feel?

Band sounded great...

It appeared they were on the sideline and played directly at the TV booth. We should do that and mic them too.

Guido appears to be turning us into Miami with a soccer crowd influence. I remember in 1992? Miami came to Beaver Stadium and we installed extra speakers and tried to have a rock concert. Miami players loved it as it imitated their Orange Bowl experience. It was embarrassing and disappeared the next home game but Guido is sneaking it back in. I for one am not impressed.

The Zombie Nation song with everyone jumping is great when us appropriately. That other drone on song, I call it the “sick sack song” as it sounds like someone who ingested Ipecac earlier in the day expelling their stomach contents, over and over and over again. 7 Nation Ipecac. Now the band plays a drone on song that is imitating European soccer chanting. REAL Football doesn’t need that constant drone which imitates the constant but less explosive motion of soccer itself. Football is explosive and requires explosive music, etc. thus the Zombie Nation song, jumping & cheering success. I haven’t met anyone who doesn’t enjoy the Zombie Nation action song, yes even the oldsters and disabled of who I’m one.

Guido had a good idea to improve the experience but he seems to focus solely on the students, it worked, but he hasn’t built on his improvements and he now seems to be regressing by grasping at more “soccery sp?” stuff. It isn’t working my friend. We had a good mix in 05 with action music but it’s not the same this year. Is Guido a “One Hit Wonder”?

One mans opinion of a multifaceted subject

The “Heyyyyy Let’s Go State” thing is actually the product of Asst. Band Director Greg Drane and it’s great. Shows some HBU Band influence that the Blue Band has been moving toward for some time now.

yeah, I'm a big fan of it

and while I agree that football doesn’t need the constant droning, something about the sustained drive and this song go together really well.
