A disturbing question....
I watch a LOT of college football, I mean, A LOT. I live on the west coast though, so I have lacked a bit in east coast game and team coverage.
With that being said, I would like to pose this disturbing question to the BSD board; is Pitt good?
I literally have seen like one highlight all year of a Pitt game out here.
(75 words, I am going to the NW game this weekend, can't wait, Chicago kicks ass)

My opinion
They’re a decent team, better than last year. In a normal conference, they would finish 8-4 or so. But no, they’re not quite at the good level yet. I also think they will drop two more games somewhere.
Define Good.
Are they are a legitimate Top 20 team? I believe that they are.
Are they a top ten team? I don’t think so, but if they win out, I think will/should be.
The Big East is tougher league this year than it normally is. Cincinnati is really good, and WVU and Pitt are both reasonably solid teams. UConn is tough, USF is talented.
Beat Northwestern.
you don't think an angry Paterno would cover it?
and don’t think Paterno wouldn’t want to beat Pitt bad just to shut everyone up

He'd want to.
But wantin’ ain’t acomplishin’
Let’s not get too crazy here. As my two year old will tell you, Michigan sucks.
I’m not sold that we’re capable of winning out.
Beat Northwestern.
I am absolutely not sold either.
11-1 or 9-3 would in no way faze me either way. Disappoint, yes. Faze? No.
anything worse than 10-2 would be an epic fail
it would mean we lost the only 3 games we had a chance of losing.

Until 4pm Saturday...
I had a feelin that the UM game had a chance og being in the losing column.

They’re fairly decent (Top 25 material), but I think they lose two out of their final three – ND, WVU, Cincy. I hope they kick ND in the ass.
DO YOU HAVE PRIDE, DANNY?

If they play Cincy for the Big East title, who knows what could happen.
It’s at Pitt, and I believe a night game. They could have over 10,000 people at that game.

You had me there for a second
Then you suggested that Pitt could draw over 10,000 people into Heinz Field.
True story- I turned on the game on Saturday, and jokingly said ‘the stadium’s over half full, it must be homecoming’.
It was homecoming, and I’d still be surprised if they had 35,000 people there.

Homecoming is not really a big deal at Pitt.
Primarily because such a large percentage of our graduates live in Pittsburgh. There is no parade or anything like that, it’s just not something people get excited for at Pitt.
Beat Northwestern.
under what circumstances
would you not rationalize the behavoir of pitt fans?
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.

Their QB play is much improved
Stull throws a nice deep ball and he’s been very accurate in recent weeks. It also helps to have a true freshman running back ranked in the top 5 nationally in yardage.
Pitt is pretty good
I think they’ll beat ND at Heinz Field and might be able to knock off cincy, but I doubt they win all three against wvu, cincy, and nd…they’re schedule got a lot tougher starting on Saturday—they looked good, so we’ll get a better sense of just how good in the next few weeks.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
O-Line
They’ve got a scary o-line with a solid back to run behind it. Stull is avoiding mistakes. They’re pretty good. Nothing we shouldn’t be able to handle though if the challenge were to arise.

Fiesta Bowl?
PSU vs Pitt. That’s one scenario I just read about. But I just don’t see that happening. There’s still alot of football to play out. They still have to play ND, Cincy at home and WV in Morgantown. They’ll lose one of those. It’s about money anyhow and pitt fans don’t travel well. Hell, they don’t even go the home games. It would be like a home game for PSU.
Pitt fans would travel to Mars
so see them play Penn State. The only place they won’t go is State College more than every other season.
Beat Northwestern.

technically the ND game won't matter
all they have to do is win the Big East
by The JuggerNitt on Oct 27, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Man I wish they were on the schedule
I’d love to go to Heinz field for that game. I was in Pitt almost 3 years ago and had pretty good time there in market street station. I think that’s what it’s called.
i think you mean:
station square?

Or market Square
There is a Market Square but it is not really popular except in the Summer. used to be anyway. They had concerts there all the time. i am old.

Are they good? - NO
they lost to NC State, who lost to Duke. Their schedule:
Youngstown State
Buffalo
Navy
NC State
Louisville
UConn
Rutgers
South Florida
they are not very good. Their Freshman running back is putting up good numbers, but he is not better than McCoy. Their defense is supposed to be good but is just meh. Their QB is terrible, but hasn’t faced a tough defense. Look at that schedule and tell me who wouldn’t be undefeated. They are going to lose 2-3 of their remaining 4.

I disagree.....
PITT is very solid this year. DW’s 1st two recruiting classes were very good. Those are his Jr and Sr leaders this year. Since then, he has recruited solid classes but not outstanding. They dumped Matt Cavanaugh last year and offensively they have a pretty good team!
I think they would present some real matchup issues for Penn State. They have some real playmakers. Other than linebacker, I am not sure Penn State has an big edge at any other position. And PITT’s OL is stronger than ours, IMO.
This would be the one year in four or five that they would have a good chance of beating PSU (or as they like to call us UPS). It’s a shame that we don’t play them annually.
