I can't believe people are complaining about this.
Really? C'mon now.

I am Jewish
and though I’m not overly sensitive, I get pissed off when people say things like “this is a Christian nation” and my radio stations become Christmas music 24/7 for the entire month of December. And though I said “that design is retarded” and just wore a plain white undershirt to the game (over a sweatshirt, of course) not once did I take offense on religious principles. If anything with vertical and horizontal lines is deemed offensive…what the hell’s the point?

Precisely
I take issue with the design itself being weak, not with the imagined religious connotations. I wouldn’t buy that shirt because it sucks.

exactly
There are many many issues that can and should be taken seriously. This is not one of them. If this offends you…just… wow. The best part is that I read in the paper that the designer is a Jewish Studies minor. Yeah, there has to be something sinister about this.

Ah, you read correctly
but she took classes in Jewish studies precisely to see what the tipping point would be for offensiveness. She wanted the spotlight, she wanted the media attention.
Or, she has a Jewish name (it ends in osky or something like that) and is probably Jewish.

I disagree with you guys.
This is definitely the most pressing issue facing the University…and the Nation… today.

What's funny
Is the fact that it’s not a cross seems to be lost in the debate. Yes, it sort of looks like one, but it isn’t one.

PSU is forcing religion on someone??? Child, please.
Clearly, the vast majority of this country agrees that the government should not be in any way endorsing one religion over another, or endorsing religion over non-religion. Excellent interpretation of the constitution, and one we should adhere to. However, the majority of us should also be able to agree that we’ve taken the attempt to find things that offend us WAAAAAAYYYY too far, be it religious or otherwise.
Oh, and I love how the article starts off all “THIS IS THE BIGGEST THREAT TO PERSONAL FREEDOM YOU’LL HEAR ABOUT ALL WEEK!!!!” and then ends, “No one seems to care, except for six people out of 40,000.”

Yeah, people try way too damn hard to find something to whine about.
If people wouldn’t be such bitches, we wouldn’t have to deal with the stupidity behind this.

I'm not christian
and it wouldn’t bother me if someone wore a blue and white religous themed shirt, however this design should have never happened. It inadvertenly represents something it wasn’t intended to represent. On TV when I see them I see a cross and it always takes me a second to remember thats the whiteout shirt.
Its a bad design and should be replaced because of that and its false representation, not for the Universitys religous insensitivity

It should be replaced because it looks stupid, not because it looks like a cross

And THIS is why nobody wants to put their stories in FanShots.
Because no one looks there, and they don’t show up unless you’re on the home page or the FanShots page.

My question
is if that is the shirt that won- how ugly were the other submissions?

The whole idea of an official whiteout tshirt bothers me
It’s just more of the over-marketing of the greatest show ever! stuff that reduces the fans’ individuality and makes us all PSU robo-fans.

I don't mind it too much
It’s optional to the buyer – the university isn’t forcing people to buy or wear the shirts. It’s just an extra piece of merchandise off of which they can make some money.
I’m also a fan of the idea that the student’s get to design and vote on the shirt idea. Again, if the university was controlling all of that, I’d probably balk at the idea a little more, but as it is, the leave the ideas in the hands of the students.
In relation to the t-shirt’s current layout – yes, I noticed the cross when I first saw it months ago. I laughed at it and then moved along because I wasn’t a fan of the entire design itself. And yes, in this day and age, I CAN believe people are complaining about this. I’m really more shocked that the outrage wasn’t brought about sooner.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

Thanks for the info
I didn’t realize it was a student contest kind of gig. Just thought it was something that someone in PSU brand marketing made each year to sell. But I still prefer seeing the unique forms of whiteout – stormtrooper, white beard and overalls guy, full white body paint – compared to the shirt. I’m always impressed seeing those crowd shots on TV. It’s kind of like the kids who actually wear a Halloween costume vs. the kids that put on a hat and say “I’m a baseball player, gimme candy.”
Regarding the design: not my favorite, but not offensive.

To be fair,
no one wearing this shirt has been bitten by a vampire.

Vampires offend me
The whole pointy tooth thing just makes me feel prejudiced.
