Retroactive love
I've noticed that UM fans have designated Tom Brady as one of their most revered alums. Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember plenty of Michigan fans complaining about Brady when he was there. Plenty of dolts wanted Drew Henson to play.
Does PSU have an equivalent? A player that was unappreciated while at PSU, then all of a sudden became loved after reaching success at the next level?
Pretty sure nobody active in the NFL qualifies, but even historically, I can't think of any examples. Thoughts?

Not for me.
Sure, he was a knucklehead when he has in school who grew up a lot, but I don’t think he’s to the point that he’s retroactively loved. I still blame him for skipping so many damn classes that he wasn’t allowed to go to that year’s bowl game against Florida.
May no act of ours bring shame.
i liked joe
of course i was like 8-10 when he was playing…so i pretty much thought everyone on the team was the best, haha
We decide when you hear the snap count...
I'll say it...
I was 100% certain Ganter was making a gigantic mistake starting Kerry Collins over John Sacca. Shows what I know.
He's a pro bowl kicker in the NFL.
But he had to get pulled on long FG attempts for David Kimball. What is that? It’s the obvious answer.

I don't care how many
Pro Bowls he goes to, his shanklitude is still personally responsible for two losing seasons and will forever be on my shitlist.

All Robbie f-ing Gould’s fault. I hate him to this day.
Gary Brown, maybe?
Didn’t play a lot at PSU, ran for a lot of yards in the NFL.

That's a good one
The hero of the 1989(?) Holiday Bowl.
I remember him badmouthing Joe in the press about playing time and play calling. He’s the only player I can remember Joe calling out in the media by saying, “Gary Brown needs to shut up and play football.”
He went on to have a few good years with the Houston Oilers. He’s an assistant coach somewhere now.

I'm not old enough to know, and my dad only talks jive on how much better 1960s-70s PSU was than 2000s PSU
But wasn’t Franco Harris just “pretty” good at Penn State, then, ya know… The Steelers thing.
well I am pretty sure
Lydell Mitchell carried most of the limelight while Franco was here

People wanted his blood while he was our QB. I remember the student section booing if he was taking the field for a series instead of Michael Robinson. But now, it seems that people cast in him a positive light – as a guy who was stuck leading a team through the dark years, and humbly, and honorably doing the best he coiuld.
Also – future pick maybe – Cameron/Derrick Wake? I remember thinking he was terrible when he played, and now he’s found his way to the NFL, and not doing terrible

Throwing this out there, but how about...
Sam Gash. I’m not sure people had issues with him, but I think as PSU fans we didn’t give him much credit for what he did while at PSU. It was like one of those expected things. He does what he’s supposed to do, no more, no less. He made a name for himself in the NFL and when my SEC buddies ask me to name PSU guys in the NFL that made a career of it – he’s always on my list.
Sam was on a bad team.
The 1988 squad that lost Blair Thomas and it’s top two quarterbacks. First losing team of the Paterno era. They lost to Rugters that year. And that was hardly the worst of it.
I don’t recall Sam Gash being disliked, I just recall him being nowhere near Blair Thomas.
Beat Northwestern.
Jay Paterno?
he….hehe……heheheheheheheehe….hehehahahahahehahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA

Tom Brady's Claim to Fame
However in 1998 (his senior season), Brady received the starting quarterback job for the Wolverines and played in and started all 13 games. His stats were a decent 214 completed passes on 350 attempts (school record) for 2636 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 Brady stayed in college an extra year so he could get more starting experience before applying for the 2000 NFL draft. Once again he started every game (12) for the Michigan Wolverines and at the end of the season was named the Bo Schembechler Award winner as Michigan’s Most Valuable Player. Tom Brady led the team to a 10 & 2 record and improved statistically also with 214 completions on 341 attempts for 2586 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. Surprisingly enough, the last game of his college career was also his best game ever as a quarterback up to that point. In the FedEx Orange Bowl vs Alabama on January 1, 2000, Brady led the Wolverines back from a 14 point deposit to win the game by a score of 35 to 34 in overtime. In the dramatic game and overtime finish Tom completed 34 of 46 passes for 369 yards and four touchdowns.
In his five years at Michigan, Tom Brady played in a total of 31 games and started 25. His record as a starter was 20 & 5. He finished his career in the Michigan record books with 443 completions on 711 attempts for 5351 yards, 35 touchdowns and 19 interceptions
I hate how Brady gets sold as a kinda Matt Cassel type guy.
Yeah, he only got drafted in the 6th round, but the dude was one of the best statistical passers in UM’s history. It wasn’t like Paul Cianciolo getting a shot or anything, he was a very good college QB who got drafted late. BFD

When we're talking
senior season, do we mean 4th year or 5th year of eligibility? Did he go into the draft with another year at UM if he wanted to stay?

You have the flu?
What the hell were you doing around my sister, you pervert!
j/k, sorry to hear that, do you know if it’s swine or not? I haven’t been feeling so well myself today, really congested, hacking cough, and extremely tired, which really sucks, because I wanted to be able to boast that my immune system pwned not one, but two flu’s this year (I’ve got a streak going: flu-free since 2003!). Luckily, no fever or chills yet, so until then I don’t think I have the flu.

I have no idea if it's swine or not
But I googled around and it looks like the symptoms are very similar to plain old regular flu, with swine flu just being more contagious.

That's correct.
It’s getting way more attention because it’s so infectious and spreads so quickly (thanks btw, because I’m pretty sure I have the flu now too). While it is and should be considered a pandemic, which is a serious thing, in actuality it’s no worse than regular flu. In fact, from what I was reading checking and confirming my own symptoms today, fever isn’t a major symptom like normal flu is.
