Larry Sr. Gets High Praise from NFL player
Ohhhh, wait, its from his own son. And it's yet another episode in the "Larry Jr.: The Boy Who Never Grew Up" drama.
Larry has had publicized issues with his last four head coaches: Joe Paterno, Dick Vermiel, Herm Edwards, and now Todd Haley.
Larry Sr. does great things with the defense, but it amazes me how a supposed leader of great men can have such an irresponsible and immature son. And you can't help but wonder if failed leadership has any connection to the number of defensive lineman come and gone.

No offense but I don’t really think it’s appropriate to insinuate that Larry Sr’s character or contributions as a coach should be put into question because his knuckle head son acts like an idiot. I was with you up to that point.
By all accounts he’s been a tremendous asset to the program on and off the field and his leadership and time spent helping mature young guys into men is well documented.

I'm afraid Junior is a little old
to be blaming his issues on his father. I see it more as once he started making that nfl money, he was being rewarded for his behavior.

Agreed.
The most wonderful people can have the worst children and vice versa. Some people are just so blind or stuck in their ways that it simply can not be changed, especially with someone who is Jr’s age

You know that other fanpost?
The one about retroactive love? Well this is the opposite of that.
I retroactively despise Junior.

Yeah..
When people point out how PSU tailbacks like Ki-Jana Carter and Blair Thomas are always NFL busts, I used to cite Larry Johnson as the exception. I don’t claim him anymore.
It’s a shame, since Ki-Jana and Blair were (and are) quality individuals. They would have been dignified representatives of PSU in the NFL. The good news is there have been plenty of others.

I dunno
I saw KiJana drinking bud light lime at the Lion’s den a couple weeks ago. I’m not so sure I can respect him anymore.

Not manly enough.
Haha. I don’t actually care, but I always remember back to my dad telling me that light beer is for women and “sissies.” Throw in some lime? Eck.

Jr
He was just as much a prick in college as he is now.

Right
He’s always been a prick, it’s just that when you run for 2,500 in 11 games, and hang 250 yards in first half on somebody, well, people tend to look the other way.
He’s gonna get cut.

It's one thing to be immature when you're 18.
It’s a different thing to be every bit as immature when you’re less than a month from turning 30.

Someone just needs to tell LJ that he's a gay fish and be done with it.

Honoring Larry Jr.
Penn State doesn’t do much in terms of honoring its former players…which I believe is actually pretty cool and matches the on-going team-first theme.
In fact, the only in-stadium player specific celebrations I can really recall are the individual banners of All-Americans on the concourse. You don’t see a ring of honor, and half-time acknowledgments focus on team accomplishments.
But if there is ever a celebration of Larry Jr., even the slightest jumbotron tribute, I won’t be able to stomach it.
The dude is a disgrace.
But that don’t stop his paychecks! Riiiiiight.

Ugly
Arrowhead Pride is one of the most popular on SB Nation and it’s getting pretty ridiculous. The moderators had a post just to let people know how to flag posts that were racist, vulgar, etc.
I’m only just now checking out the hundreds and hundreds of comments today, most of which were about Larry Johnson. So far, I’ve already read more insults and issued more warnings than I thought I ever would.

The answer: Ameachi intervention?
LJ Jr’s problems seem to result from always having a chip on his shoulder, and here are 4 issues that may have had detrimental effects on his personality:
1. His dad’s career meant he moved a few too many times in his formitive football years, and coaches didn’t have enough time to recognize his potential.
2. PSU coaches, mired in the dark years, somehow didn’t recognize his potential before 2002. However, maybe that potential wasn’t evident until he got really mad.
3. He got jobbed out a Heisman. 2000 yards got Salaam a Heisman, why not LJ? We all saw it coming, though.
4. Vermiel foolishly tried to psyche up LJ by making the diaper comments. Totally blew up in the media, forcing all involved into uncomfortable questioning.
I actually feel a little empathy for him. Not much sympathy, though – he should have been able to cope with those challenges without being a doucheabag.

No one is that angry
without a reason. If Dr Drew were here I’m sure that reason would be related to a weird Uncle and improper touching at a young age.

Update
LJ apologizes, is banned from the team
Larry Johnson’s father told the Star that he was hurt by his son’s use of gay slurs.
“That’s just not who we are and not what we believe,” Larry Johnson Sr. told the newspaper. "It’s not how he was raised.
“It’s tough for me as a father.”
Johnson Sr. told the newspaper that it would be wrong to label his son as homophobic.
“He does not hate gays. That’s not Larry, and that’s not our family,” Johnson Sr. told the Star. “He’s my son. You can’t disown him. We just talk to him, listen to him, and help him move forward.”
"Is that right?" Joe answered. "That’s not a problem. But you’ve got a problem. You don’t relate to me. And that’s a big problem."
