Movin' On Up?
/begins knocking on wood
Let's assume we can take care of jNW well enough that no one questions either side of the ball.
/ends knocking on wood
Of all the teams ahead of us, only two games really stand out that might help us move up, barring an upset (I left Florida/Georgia off the list even though UGA plays in the SEC). USC heads to Oregon, Texas heads to Okie State. Three of those four teams are ahead of us and one (Okie State) is two spots behind us. What needs to happen for us to gain the most ground? We definately jump the loser of the USC/Oregon matchup. Do we jump Texas if OKST wins? Does OKST jump us if they win? OH THE HUMANITY!

The loser of USC-Oregon
is not guaranteed to go below us. Oregon would probably go below us… but if USC loses… (barley)… then they will probably be slotted right above us… because that’s what they do.

USC is tired of going to the Rose Bowl
I say, I hope they enjoy the Sun Bowl

Do we jump Texas if OKST wins? Does OKST jump us if they win?
Nope. Yes.

Without a doubt, OKST jumps us because OMG NINTENDO XII SKILLZZZZZ!
The USC-Oregon point above is also good. USC is OMG USC!
We need to trounce OSU, who needs to move up to about 14 this week. In other words, 4 losses ahead of them.
Then, we need upsets. And people to get the F real with the ACC and Big East – nobody in either belonged near us EVER this year, much less now that we are playing well.
Then, get rid of BSU who means nothing.
These are a few of the important things.

You guys seriously believe a 2 loss USC team only drops to 11? Am I grossly underesimating the media’s boner for USC? That would be atrocious.
And on the other game, that’s essentially a wash? With the loser staying/moving behind us and the winner staying/moving ahead of us?

NATIONAL TITLE 5 YEARS AGO..
ANOTHER GEAR.. Yadda yadda. Don’t forget they lost to an abysmal Washington squad. I’d think having lost to the computer’s #1 should start paying dividends soon.

Yeah, you would think so.
I don’t think we’ll really see a significant computer bump until tOSU, even if they do have 2 losses, it will really boost us.

Not only that, but they're ranked (knock on wood re: them winning this weekend), which will be our first *real* test
Until we (knock on wood) beat them… Then we will still be untested.

Sadly
I think you are. The love for USC is second only to the SEC, and if USC woul stop losing stupid games, it would surpass them.

I'd be suprised if USC didn't
move up after such a quality loss.

I think the best case scenario...
Would be for Iowa to keep winning and we win out. Then, to borrow the words of another Iowa poster, we share Pasadena. I would also like to see USC win out just to get another shot at them in the Rose Bowl.
If Iowa were to win in a BCS championship game, and we were to beat USC, it would go a long way in improving the perception of the Big 10.
by Spats on Oct 28, 2009 9:35 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
That's true.
But this begs two questions:
1) As devil’s advocate I’ll ask, do you really think Iowa can play with Floribama or Texas? I don’t want to help the media bias for them, but convince me it wouldn’t be an epic OSU FAIL
2) Are we assuming as fact that a win-out = BCS game (assuming Iowa ISN’T in the MNC)? I think that is the case, but will there be any other teams that could go over us? I doubt it considering our fan base…

REPLY FAIL
that was supposed to be under Spats
by PSUJunny05 on Oct 28, 2009 9:45 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It seems to be a fairly safe assumption
They’ll be 4 at larges, take away a spot for BCS Buster and whichever half of Floribama doesn’t make it, and the left over choices are us, the second place teams for the Pac – 10, Big 12, Big East, or ACC and possibly 10-2 Notre Dame.
I’d think our most dangerous scenario would be Texas losing in the Big 12 championship game and then stealing an at large bid, and us competing for the remaining spot with second place Pac -10 team USC, and 10-2 Notre Dame. But even then we should get chosen.
If the winner of the ACC Coastal loses in the ACC champ game to the winner of the ACC Atlantic, I doubt they’ll steal a BCS bid like in the Texas situation, since all ACC Coastal teams already have at least one loss. And no second team from the Big East will take it.

I ope we go to the Orange Bowl or the Fiesta Bowl
for the selfish reason that I already have tix for those 2 games.
