Whatever

Devlin was going to get his chance next year. But he left. Maybe he is the better pro prospect, but given Clark’s level of success, you can’t knock PSU’s decision to start him. PSU’s goal is to win games and develop men. Giving the best NFL prospect the green light from the get-go is a secondary goal.

Also, let’s look at some the scouts’ picks based on arm strength, composure and mechanics: Alex Smith, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Brady Quinn, and so on. Scouts are wrong about half the time on QBs. Clark has some weaknesses, sure, but half the guys they project to the NFL level end up having fatal flaws that weren’t exposed in college.

Jamarcus Russell...

"Every player we have, someone-maybe a parent, a grandparent, someone-poured their soul into that young man. They are handing that young man off to us. They are giving us their treasure, and it's our job to make sure we give them back that young man intact and ready to face the world."

Who cares

It’s hard to argue with the choices of someone who has won 390 games.

and with a QB who set the career TD record

I'm perfectly fine with our current QB, thank you very much.

I’m sure Devlin would have been a good or great QB here, and I’m sorry he left, but I’m more than happy with the QB we have. The guy led us through a thrilling season last year, and has continued his successes this year. I couldn’t ask for much more, honestly.

We've lost 3 games in two years with DC at QB.

From a team perspective, we’ve been fine.

We’ll neer know if Devlin would have been a better pick. It’s way behind us now, let’s keep trying to win out!

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

If you wanted to be a cynic...

If Pat Devlin starts last year what’s our record? Probably the same.

But what are the chances that Daryl Clark transfers? Slim, would be my guess. And what’s our record with Devlin this year? Probably the same.

We’d be deeper at quarterback this year, and we’d have a senior quarterback for the trip to Alabama next year, rather than sophmore with no experience.

I mean, if you wanted to be a cynic about the whole thing.

Beat Northwestern.
