Injury bug, OSU style
In yesterday's EPIC SHOWDOWN of two of college football's elite, Ohio State's starting place kicker Aaron Pettrey suffered a knee injury, causing him to most likely miss the rest of the season. The back-up, a former MLS (What?, oh yeah, major league soccer) player Devin Barcley stepped in, going 1-3, making his only kick from 29, and missing from 36 and 47. With two of the Big Ten's top defenses meeting next week, a kicking matchup may decide the game. Oh yeah, and Toilet Paper got pulled at half time too, with him being described as "banged up". He was seen limping, and most likely has a lower body injury. Just saying..

Pryor getting hurt is NOT good
We do not want him getting pulled for injury in our game. I have no idea if his backup could do any better, but chances are probably yes. He needs to be in the game for the whole game, since that increases our chances of winning tremendously.

THIS
I watched their spring game, their backup QB has a hell of an arm and a great release. If their backup QB plays us we’re going to flashbacks to 2007. I’m not saying he’s the next Mark Sanchez, but he looks like a real QB compared to the great arm-punter.

Eh
Everyone looks good in the spring. I feel like, after/during the Purdue game, Tressel would have put in the backup if he thought he was competent.

Just to illustrate your point, Bauserman vs. Kevin Newsome, 2009 season stats:
(since they’ve both only seen junk time)
Bauserman: 6/19 (31.6%), 124yds, 0 TDs, 2 sacks, 10yds rush on 9 att (1.1avg.), 0 TDs
Newsome: 8/11 (72.7%), 66 yds, 0 TDs, 2 sacks, 85yds rush on 16 att (5.3avg.), 1 TD
So he’s probably not any more qualified than Newsome at this point to run an offense, especially in a huge game. My guess is that Sweatervest plays Pryor, injured or not, and takes the risk (that’s kind of what you have to do when you throw all your eggs in one basket, hehe).

Bauserman looked good against NMS but who wouldn't?

However, the good part of that news could be that his legs are hurt.
That makes TP 0-dimensional, since none of us are afraid of his armpunts.

Meaning - if its not too big a deal, but its enough to slow him down, that helps us.

How does a former MLS player have NCAA eligibility?
by cjapsu on Nov 1, 2009 1:05 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Same way their minor league baseball backup QB still has elligibility and is a redshirt sophomore
He may not have went to college and started playing MLS right out of HS.
Just looked it up, I was right, he skipped college, and is currently a junior

gotta love
how that is legal but having skiing endorsements was illegal for that kid from colorado.

totally different, I think
Who is to say why he is getting an endorsement? Is he more famous as a skier or college football player? If endorsements were ok, Nike could have had OMGebow set up as a “professional” Madden or Halo player or something, and then give him a 5 year 50 million dollar contract to peddle for them.

The difference?
Money. tOSU jokes aside, you think he’s getting paid now that he’s in college? If a college kid is getting an endorsement he’s getting paid for a non-working position while he’s still a student-athlete aka illegal. If a guy plays another sport right out of high school to make some money before he goes to college, that’s all legal in the eyes of the NCAA, as it should be. So long as the kid isn’t getting trained by NFL staff for four years, which I’m pretty sure is a violation, I’m pretty sure he’s allowed to go to college and play as an athlete even though he’s older. I think we’ve actually done it before. I seem to remember a story about a guy who joined the military, either right out of HS, or left college who came back and walked on at PSU, I can’t back that up though, so I may be wrong.
So it’s totally different.

if I recall correctly
you can also be a pro in a sport that isn’t the sport you are playing in college (ie Jeff Samardzija got drafted by the cubs while he was in college, and Tom Zbikoswki was a boxer)

I think he played both if I remember correctly
but Scirrotto was also drafted for baseball, but not for football, but he might have also played BB at PSU, I can’t remember.

I don't believe Scirrotto played baseball at PSU
The Royals drafted him based solely on his play in high school. I know Paul Cianciolo played both, but we all know he played both.

also, he got drafted after he was done playing football anyway
but there seems to be some sort of catch. Maybe since he didn’t hire an agent, and the MLB draft is kinda different…it seems more like the rights to the player, but I don’t know if you have to “enter” the draft like you do NFL. I never really understand the baseball draft as there seems to be WAY too many rounds.

It's the most hilarious thing to listen to
the MLB draft. I’ve never heard anything more efficient in my life. It sounds like everything is done through a massive conference call, where the head “announcer” calls out the team on the clock, the team responds within seconds with the player’s name, draft ID#, listed position, and school. The announcer re-announces the pick, calls the next team, and the cycle continues. Literally, each pick takes no more than 30 seconds tops.

I actually had a dream last night
in which Collin Wagner missed the potential game-winning field goal as time expired, from 23 yards. It woke me in a cold sweat.

before the Michigan game I had a dream that we were winning by a ridiculously high score, except instead of a football, Clark was throwing whole pizzas. seriously. I woke up hungry for pizza.

OSU BLOGS DISS BAUSERMAN
Although we can only hope that TP, The Shot Put Chump; will start against PSU this week, it seems that the second-string OSU QB, who played the third quarter against the overmatched New Mexican Pirates or whatever they were, only managed 3 point in three drives with the first team.
So, just when you think we have a bad deal with depth at QB, you get a chance to take a few steps in the neighbor’s shoes, and see that things are tough all over.

Playing Devil's Advocate here
Tress is well known for being conservative but with the kicker out it might force him to come out of his shell and go for it more on 4th and short more often. That scares me a little.
