That game was as bad as SCUM 2005

Or any number of pro-Florida calls
Yeah. It was bogus. Bad enough for that call to be blown in real time. But the replay is inexcusable.
It never gets to be easy

That call wasn't blown in real time.
The official at the pylon made a clear touchdown signal. He was right then. He’s still right now. The replay official and the corrupt Big Ten office were and are wrong.

Speaking of Big Ten office
has anyone heard of a clarification or apology from the refs for totally accidentally getting the call wrong? I have no idea where that kind of news would come from, so I don’t know.

Ball is not secured in the hands yet.
I thought it was a touchdown, too, but this photo is not definitive proof (right hand has not secured the ball). If his toe comes off when the hand secures it, its not. If toe is still on ground, it is.
This is a great photo, but it clearly does not show when the ball is secured.

i think the main point being made
is that there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it.
i believe 100% that if it was originally called no TD, that that wouldn’t have been over turned, due to not enough evidence it was a TD. however, there is no way there was ALSO enough evidence to tell that it was NOT a TD.

Wasn't this the play on third down, and then they had to kick a field goal and missed it?
I thought it was, which was why it made the call on this play even more infuriating.

correct

Yeah, this is the one where they had to settle for a field goal and missed it.
I think the one you’re thinking of happened at the end of the second quarter. I think it was a touchdown that IMO was clearly a touchdown, caught near the back of the end zone, but it was either ruled incomplete and not overturned, or ruled complete and overturned (but I think it’s the former). But then Indiana scored a touchdown on the next play, so that one ended up not mattering much. .

No, they got the field goal here
The missed field goal was earlier.
Anyway, they still had a two score lead and I still can’t understand why people think this was the worst display of officiating in history.

Because 7 points >>> 3pts?
My math could be wrong on that though.

I don't think so, but I might not have been right either.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4620062 , according to this story, it was a Terrence Turner reviewed catch that put the field goal unit out to miss the 28 yard missed field goal.
That guy up there is Terrence Turner. (#1 for Indiana).
http://espn.go.com/ncf/playbyplay?gameId=293042294&period=0
That’s the play by play. Terrence Turner wasn’t involved in any drives that ended in a made field goal. That play could have been either this one:
2nd and 7 at IOWA 9 Ben Chappell pass incomplete to Terrance Turner.
3rd and 7 at IOWA 9 Ben Chappell pass complete to Damarlo Belcher for 9 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. 20 7
Nick Freeland extra point GOOD. 21 7
Nick Freeland kickoff for 38 yards returned by Wade Leppert for no gain to the Iowa 32.
Making it be what Cairo thought initially, a touchdown after the play.
Or it could have been:
3rd and 6 at IOWA 11 Ben Chappell pass incomplete to Terrance Turner.
4th and 6 at IOWA 11 Nick Freeland 28 yard field goal MISSED.
Making it what Dawson and I thought.
I still think it’s the missed field goal one because that’s what I remember, and I think Bill Lynch would be more likely to send in the play for review having not gotten any points out of it vs. sending in one where he got a touchdown right after.
by PSUisMyHeart on Nov 4, 2009 4:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It was the second
The (2nd and 7) was also reviewed, but wasn’t as controversial as the second (3rd and 6).

That would make it worse
They went away with no points, shut down Iowa again, THEN got a two score lead, then blew it.
Yeah, the refs totally won this game for Iowa.
