Brandon Beachum (Officially) Tears ACL
So sayeth The Daily Collegian:
Brandon Beachum will miss the remainder of the 2009 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee on Saturday, according to a release issued by the Penn State football program.
Beachum, a true sophomore running back, hurt his knee while attempting to recover a Jerome Hayes fumble on a kickoff return on the first play of the third quarter in Penn State's 31-20 win over Indiana on Saturday.

I'm sure he hates being linked to this, given his ACL surgeries.

I must be missing something, I thought that was Zug that fumbled

No, it was Black Zug.

I'm so glad that Jerome Hayes is now officially linked to that nickname
"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
I cannot count how many times
we threw around the “Black Zug” moniker on Saturday afternoon. What a bunch of idiots. Even if you ignore his skin color, those dudes have drastically different builds. I cannot fathom the minimal effort that must go into preparing to provide play-by-play or commentary for football broadcasts. Although Mason made enough golf references that I was pretty sure he thought he was calling a golf match. Oh, and the called the “play clock” a “shot clock.” SERIOUSLY????
At least we had “Black Zug” to entertain ourselves with.

Glen Mason
Does anyone else hate him with a passion and agree he needs to be removed from the B10 Network? I actually like their in-studio football shows (Revsine, Dinardo & Griffith are good), but immediately turn off anything with Mason. He is 2nd only to Mark May.

He shouldn't have been returning it
third time he’s picked off a kickoff with the real return man a foot behind him. He’s got to know his job is to lead block, not return. And now Beachum’s injured because of it.

Yes, it's totally Jerome's fault Beachum got injured.
THAT makes sense. Injuries happen when you play sports, it’s no one’s fault, unless you want to blame the nameless Knee-hating God, then it’s his fault.
Oh, for God's sake

Not popular, but I can't really disagree.
I’m sure that Jerome is feeling a little guilty about that chain of events, which is what I was referencing here.

Exactly
I referenced your reference. It wasn’t that short, Green SHOULD HAVE been yelling “I got it.” I know that it’s football, but it’s the second or third time that Hayes has been overzealous in the returning. Against OSU, Powell almost ran into his back because he assumed Hayes would get out of the way. Hayes was an RB in HS and I assume he liked running with the ball. Still, it’s not the right thing to do, and I’m glad RUTS hears me out.

Yeah, but that's not why Beachum was hurt.
Zug & Astorino fumbled – if #3 got hurt trying to fall on their fumbles, would we be having this conversation?
Should Hayes have tried his Tim Brown impersonation? NO
Was it his fault Beachum got hurt? NO
by Tailgate Shogun on Nov 16, 2009 6:44 PM EST up reply actions
Right.
I’m sure Jerome feels guilty that Beachum got hurt trying to make up for JH’s mistake, but shit, I could blow out an ACL getting out of bed.

The ball was kicked short so he fielded it
I certainly dont have a problem with it. If the return man was that close, he should have signaled to Hayes to get out of the way so he could field it. Given our kick return issues, I’d prefer someone just field the ball cleanly and not worry about who does it. Would you prefer Hayes to look around and check where the return man is supposed to be or just keep his eyes on the ball and get what he can out of it?
And the idea that it is even partly his fault is absolutely crazy.
Great
Not only are special teams hurting the team in games, they’re hurting the players.
I guess Beachum will redshirt next year. He could be healthy by next August, but he’d be better off sitting out since he won’t lose a year of eligibility.
This is true...
But we shouldn’t put it on the interweb. We need all the help we can get with Lattimore, and saying a guy that will 99% start ahead of him will be around an extra year is bad juju.

And don't take that as a Beachum-hating comment.
I love the kid, but this is exactly WHY we need more RBs and LBs and whatever else Zug decides to give us.

I am not sure about him redshirting.
I think many people view him as the front runner for the starting spot next season if Royster does end up leaving. It will be hard for him to turn his back on that opportunity, even if he is only 75% healthy.

Any Way You Slice It..
…ANOTHER great specialties play.
Someone above said it’s not the first time Hayes returned one…Why? Shouldn’t happen, ESPECIALLY not after the first time, and no I’m not blaming Hayes that’s on the coaches.
Beachum...
looked like he could have been really good next year and great the year after. Like Hunt with more speed or Enis or Carter.
Never mistake effort for achievement.

Nothing like Carter...
That dude was too fast for anyone in our RB crew except Green and maybe Silas Redd.

The one good thing about this (although nothing about this is good)
is that we have some good depth at the RB position and some good recruits coming in. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beachum took a RS if he isn’t ready and Dukes got a shot to start.
i wonder
since the last two times Joe talked about Beachum, he spoke about how he was a great LB in high school. After he recovers it would be interesting if he got a shot there.
SUCKS. Won't get spring practice
and will miss a great shot at being THE MAN next year (assuming Royster bolts).

Does Hayes do anything that doesn’t result in an ACL tear?
Because it's a Bowl Game!!

I TAKE FULL CREDIT FOR THIS ONE
I bought Maurice Evan’s jersey, my first ever adult PSU jersey, a week before his weed incident.
A few days before the Ohio State game I noticed authentic Nike white #3 jerseys on sale, thought I might as well get one for the game.
