Urban Meyer about to try to rob us again
So, for those of you who recall how Meyer negative-recruited against us with Floyd, dig this:
He's getting our stud WR recruit on campus! I don't have the special access, but it appears that Coxson is visiting. While he's been committed for a while, and that makes me feel pretty good, the fact that scUF is losing 5 WRs this season and that Meyer is recruiting-trail-scum, this frightens me.
Keep your fingers crossed.
And before y'all start ranting, I know this maybe isn't exactly FanPost material, but I've written enough in my anger at the news to take up too much space in a FanShot.
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link, quote, or video, please consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

It actually gets cold(ish) there in the winter.
It's not near a beach either
I agree with some of speedomike’s past posts: the whole “recruits go to Florida because all their women are supermodels and there’s no good looking women in State College” thing is probably just a bit overblown.

It's not that.
He supposedly tells recruits that PSU doesn’t stick up for their athletes — especially their black athletes — when they get in legal trouble. And he has an assistant coach down there who was basically fired from PSU who talks a metric assload of crap about us.

he has certainly had an impact
on brandon spikes. i mean, he suspended him for the season after gouging that dude’s eye out on national television.
really, he’s a bastion of person integrity.

Can you provide any elaborative scoop on ‘basically fired’?

well
he was around for the dark years and I don’t think we had 1 decent WR during that span.

Bryant Johnson
And he’s been a #3 ever since he came into the NFL. Other than that, no names pop up to me for PSU WRs in that span.

hey, in Eddie "the garbage man" Drummond's defense
He did make a pro bowl as a return man.

were so bad they had to move him to CB and use Drummond in the Power I because he couldn’t catch either.

Not to mention a fantastic Grad Rate (and AA Grad Rate), other than that PSU could care less about their athletes (AA).
Latest Grad Rates from 02-03 classes
Florida Football AA 63%, White 25%
PSU Football AA 90%, White 88%
Facts speak louder than words.
Color me ignorant, but I don't understand these numbers

What's not to understand?
AA=African American
White=Caucasion
Football=the sport they play
02-03=the year that the players entered the program since the NCAA keeps grade rates on a 6 year timeframe which means that the 02-03 class had until 08-09 to graduate and sadly for Florida, only 25% of their White football players from that class graduated and only 63% of their African American football players did as well.
Well, Mr. Coxson,

"scUF"?
Really?
Anyway, I’ve been concerned about Florida moving into Maryland.

Do you have a little known Battle of 1812 battle to back this concern up?

Not any obscure ones, no
After Bladensburg [07 Fiesta Bowl & 07 Rose Bowl], Washington [big ten pride] was burned to a crisp. Now the British [Meyer] advance upon Baltimore [Maryland recruits]. Can Fort McHenry [LJSR] stop them??

I never thought the Baltimore campaign could ever be related to Urban Meyer

Well...
I’ve heard that Coxson has been…. kinda urged to look around by a lack of contact from PSU, FWIW.

This SUCKS.
Especially cause we already blew our chance with Stills.
"Every player we have, someone-maybe a parent, a grandparent, someone-poured their soul into that young man. They are handing that young man off to us. They are giving us their treasure, and it's our job to make sure we give them back that young man intact and ready to face the world."

The more I think about it...
Is it really our fault we’re not in touch with him, or is it him? Silas Redd and all the other early commits are at virtually every game…

Maybe geography will work in our favor, here.
From Baltimore, Gainesville is a lot harder to get to for a family to watch a game than State College is.
And Philadelphia and Floyd is better?
Floyd’s even farther, and that didn’t stop Meyer from poisoning him against us.
Then good luck to him
Seriously, this recruiting class could end up losing Coxson and Jones and we’d still have a top 10 class and enough talent to get us a serious NC run in 2012. They’re either true-blue Penn Staters who want success with honor, or they’re eye-gouging divas who want someone coddle them. If this kid is impressed by all those shenannigans, best of luck to him.
Plus Meyer might be a serious candidate for the ND job, which means serious HC instability at Florida.

Here's some info on Jones, hot off the press

There’s some Michigan recruiting info first, but the article goes on to say Jones is enrolling at PSU in January

Vince Lombardi
Early recruit means he’ll be pushing Newsome awefully hard for the starting spot. Nothing against Newsome, but comptetition breeds success for QB’s.

err "Early enrollee..."

I saw him play....
a couple of times on TV. I am not sold that he is a 5-star QB. He is Rothlisberger big. He has a very strong arm.
But…he plays in AAA so does not compete against some of the better talent schools in the WPIAL. He has a monster wide out, Andrew Carswell, as a teammate. Carswell is going to Pitt. He may be the better catch! One of the games I watched, Jones sat at the start and Carswell ran a Wildcat type offense. (Jones may have been a little dinged up, in fairness). He does not seem to have above average quickness or straight line speed.
I am sure tht a couple of years will polish the talent. He’s enrolling early, so probably not a RS candidate, but I think he needs a year to develop mentally and, though he is immense for a QB, physically. He did not look like an HD spread type guy! May end up as a Tight End (only kidding!)
Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.
Vince Lombardi
I don’t think he’s “mobile” in the sense that MRob or Newsome are mobile, but if he’s got Big Ben type size, then you have to imagine he’s not going to be easy to tackle in the pocket.
I’m not sold on the mobile QB thing anymore — Clark has shown that hanging in there and making the play downfield is better then running for a few yards every time the first read isn’t there. JMO.

Yes, if the play downfield is indeed made. When the pass 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th mentality of reads, with run 5th, results in panicky pass-interceptions, or 5+ yard sacks, then the answer is different.
But I agree with you about the second read. DC’s shown us a lot of things, not least of which that it is possible to develop into a pocket passer inside the Penn State program. But he also taught me the irony involved in watching a former-‘athletic’-qb-who’s-learned-how-to-pass be stubborn about it and/or lose the instinct to run and make a play when receivers are getting chumped by Amari Spievey or Chimdi Chekwa.

Maybe he’s a diva. Maybe he’s got a bad attitude, or doesn’t work hard. Maybe he packs a knife and has a tendancy to get all stabby when someone steals his cellphone case.
Or maybe this is one of those Amish-style “tests of faith” where they send the teenagers out into the real world and let them experience the cruel realities of the modern world. Then when they return you know its because they’re 100% down with the horse’n’buggy-barn-raising lifestyle.
