I knew something was wrong
when in one of the first games Ott seemed to like being by the 3 point line more than inside. It’s like they are scared or muscling someone down low. Either that, or Ed doesn’t teach them to.I knew Jamelle, and he was very nice, but it was easy to see how he transformed into the Broad Street Bully when he was on the court. We have guys with the height, but not the killer instinct.
I’m not super tall, but I have decent height and never played basketball. My friends would say it was a “waste of height” because I could do something with it if I ever stepped on the court. Melle was undersized for his position but had a ton of heart. Now we have guys who have the height, but are “wasting it” by not giving us help inside or not having the will to simply dominate the other guy.

Honestly, this is the first game I've seen
and it’s probably not a good one because Sacred Heart likes to shoot so many 3s (even though they’re getting a lot of rebounds)
I don’t know how Jones is doing yet… I guess… is the thesis of this comment.

I think the jury is still out on this team, unlike most everyone else it seems.
They looked pretty good in the first couple of games in the comforts of the Jordan Center. Then they had their annual struggles in a tournament on the road. I’m not certain they’re as good as they were in the 2nd half against RMU, nor am I certain they’re as bad as they were against Tulane (I’m writing off the UNCW game as them shooting lights out).
Let’s just see how things play out…

Frazier hasn’t been the issue – he’s shooting 41% from the field, and 67% from 3-point land. It’s been Babb who has been killing us – 26% from the field, and 31% from 3. Problem is, Ed has been splitting their time, with Babb getting more starts to this point. Either Babb has to pick up his shooting, or Frazier needs to get more floor time.
Lets not forget that Talor is only shooting 35% from the field, 23% from behind the arc so far this season too…

Agree on all fronts
Frazier has been great, and he’s way ahead of where I expected him to be. He’ll have nights where he makes mistakes, but he’s miles ahead of where Battle was as a frosh, and has already passed Babb, who I still think has some promise.

Talor doesn't seem like he can be the leader
that Melle was. He’s an upper classman, but doesn’t seem to add the fire that Melle could. Although maybe it’s because he’s too tired from being in the game almost constantly.
It’s a shame how the team seems to fall apart the few times he left the game last year. You would think we could get one person to just manage the game, and maybe score a few when he’s not in. I hope we have someone like that this year.

Leadership
I feel like leadership is more something you DO than something you say in basketball. Battle has carried this team on his back time and again, and I think that’s more important to his teammates than anything he could say.

but Subway and the Creamery each have stands at the BJC and Subway’s a sponsor… also, the quality of food is slightly better with more variety which means they can charge more

NIT this season
Originally I thought that it would be a reasonable goal, but my question is where are the wins going to come in-conference? We are seem to agree that the B10 is going to be very tough – maybe get 8 teams in the NCAAs – so there aren’t really too many chances for wins. We only play IU and Iowa once (I believe) and with Coble out N’western will not be as good but if may be tough to get much more than 5 or 6 wins in the Big 10. If that’s the case we will be hovering around .500 and maybe not selected for the NIT.
I see 7 tops
Northwestern twice
Iowa
Indiana
Minnesota once
Wisconsin once
Ohio State or Michigan once
Michigan State should be really good, and a healthy Purdue is just a terrible matchup for us.

I think the talent on this team is good enough for a few upsets
You know Battle is going to have at least one of two nights where he goes off. Hopefully we can keep the hex on Illinois at home as well. I will be really interested in the last week of the season where we play MSU and Purdue back to back. If this team develops well…I could see an upset in one of those games.
I agree – Purdue scares me – it took half of their team to be out – and a clutch Morrissey 3 at the end – to win at home. The other two games against them (esp. the B10 tourney) were complete mismatches. I could see them going to the Final Four. MSU sometimes has nights where they are cold and then try to turn it on at the end.

He definitely looks like he has some talent – and can contribute this year.
Frazier looks like he has a ton of speed and hopefully he can learn to stay under control. Any time that he can give Battle a break running the point is a bonus, and if they can be a good tandem it would be great.

And say that the 2 games I’ve seen Timmy in, he looks dope…
BUT, he gets out of control. I think Eddy said this as well, but he needs to learn to tone it down at times. That way the speed can help. Otherwise, he’s just sprinting around making me giddy but accomplishing nothing.
