Well, before the year I said this had the look of a 10-2 team. And it looks like that's what we're going to get. More analysis at a later date, but for now there will be drinking. Lots of it.

The Indiana game can't get here soon enough.

Even if we do make it to the Outback Bowl, it won't be LSU we're playing

Unless I’m missing something, Alabama and Florida will be in BCS games, and that puts LSU in the Capital One bowl, and us playing Georgia in the Outback (as long as things stay the way they are now, of course). Maybe Auburn even, if they beat Georgia, but not LSU.

So OSU will get crushed in the Rose Bowl... that's a given

Iowa may win against Alabama/Florida, but I severely doubt it. Penn State will have an intense game against LSU. That will be a rough bowl series for the Top 10 Big Ten teams.

BUT – all of this is better than what happened in 2001, 2003-04. And THAT’S what’s important!

by cjapsu on Nov 7, 2009 6:46 PM EST reply actions

There is no way the Big 10 will get 2 BCS bowls

The Big East is a better conference this year. Sad but true. Iowa will not get Florida/Alabama, and that is for the best. They will send both TCU and Boise State before sending 2 Big 10 teams.

Not a chance

Cincy is undefeated, but hasn’t even played the top teams in their conference. Pitt lost to NC State, one of the worst teams in the ACC, and WVU lost to Auburn, and SEC also-ran. They look decent because they schedule their OOC about as bad as the B10, and have more OOC games.

Our kick/punt return schemes are screwing us up royally. Only one guy can catch a ball. We could have one more guy blocking if they both didn’t try and catch the ball, which nearly caused us to lose a fumble in this game. ONE RETURN MAN.

The two receivers both ran flies, more or less, and AJ moved back towards his underneath assignment while Sukay had to choose between the inside receiver or the outside. Damned if he did, damned if he didn’t.

QB14 vs DC17

I think there have been more highs with DC17 than QB14. I thought that last year Clark was a bit iffy. I think this year he has played well. He didn’t have it going against Iowa, and they kept calling passing plays. I blame that loss on playcalling/special teams. I was at the game, so I didn’t see any sideline shots but Clark seemed to play with poise, which is the best you could ask for. I am scratching my head over what happened to Moye. The INT last night was just a great play by the OSU D.

Not a bad QB but you don’t want him trying to win the game.

He is not or ever will be MRob and he needs to accept that fact.

Hey you're right that he's overrated...

All I am saying is the reason Morelli got booed had more to do with other things than not ever getting a big win, a trait which you’re absolutely right that Clark shares with him.

For performing the same as any other QB would have performed with that kind of o-line performance? Not even Shorty Miller himself could have done better.

There was nothing about this game that surprised me other than the speed of our D. We knew our O-line was suspect, we knew DC struggles when pressured, and we had a suspicion that our secondary isnt the best.. OSU knew it too and they game planned for it and they executed. What I did not know was that our D was so slow. Maybe it just looked that way from my seats, and I am off base here, I don’t know. But OSU beat us to the sideline and turned the corner on like every play. And this may get me beat up and banned, but our star linebackers are kinda slow as well. The only time they make plays are when the person with the ball doesn’t know they are there, or the ball carrier gets slowed down going through the line. Its like all of our LBers are inside linebackers, The only plays they could make are when the runner tries to go up the middle. Maybe Im off base with this and just frustrated, I dont know.

by scotty2hotty89 on Nov 7, 2009 8:51 PM EST reply actions

I really didn't think they looked that bad

Bowman didn’t look slow, but he did have some sloppy tackling.

Hull? Well, we already knew he was slow.

Lee looked fine. One one play he was blatantly held, which doesn’t say much for him being slow.

On most of the plays where Ohio State turned the corner it had less to do with our linebackers being slow and more to do with good blocking.

Lastly, Pryor is seriously fast and tho I hate the term, he has “deceptive speed”. Which is why he could play receiver too.

This one is worth a re-post!

One team has 7 national titles, and the other team has 2. One team has 7 Heisman Trophies, and the other team has 1. One team has 78 consensus first-team all Americans, and the other team has 39. One team has 6 Lombardi awards, and the other team has 1. One team has 4 Outland trophies, and the other team has 1. One team is part of the greatest rivalry in sports, and the other team used to play Pitt. Can you guess which team is which? You might assume that the latter team, given its underwhelming comparative accomplishments, has been playing college football for less amount of time than the former, but you’d be wrong; they began in 1887, whereas the former began in 1890.

We don’t respect you. We don’t fear you. We sometimes lose to you, but mostly when we shoot ourselves in the foot. We try to hate you, but hate requires mutual respect, and again, lacking respect for you, the best we can muster is ennui.

We respect USC. We respect Oklahoma. We respect Texas. We even respect Michigan.

But we don’t respect Penn State. And we probably never will.

by ReadingRambler on Nov 7, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

Agree

Bid 10 teams have had success against SEC teams when the Big 10 team plays Big 10 football. Ohio State’s problem has been going into games trying to out SEC the SEC. Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, and, even Michigan have done well in the Capital One/Outback games when they go in and hit these SEC teams in the mouth. While the Big 10 team might be behind in the third quarter, they will win the game in the 4th once the SEC team gives up. SEC teams don’t deal well with getting hit in the mouth.

Iowa really is a good team, even if the product isn’t always the prettiest thing out there. They should have Stanzi back for the bowl game, which is the only reason why they’ll struggle heading out.

I’ll wait to see match-ups first, but I have no reason to write-off Iowa just because they haven’t blown teams out every week.

Its been a weird season across the board.

A lot of things have happened that have defied logic. Iowa being undefeated until losing at home to Northwestern almost makes sense in this world.

Iowa really isn’t what I would consider a BCS team. But then, there aren’t 4 teams I would consider a BCS team this year. I can’t make heads or tails of this whole year. Ohio State isn’t that good. Iowa isn’t that good. We aren’t that good. We’re looking at a Big Ten that resembles the ACC more than the SEC this season. I’d say we have zero marquee teams, a few above average teams, and the rest of the teams are just awful.

Just curious

Not that it is that big of a deal, but just hypothetically, if we win out (which isn’t a given) and OSU and Iowa both lose a game…best case scenario for that would be if Iowa beats OSU and then loses to Minnesota since I don’t see OSU losing to UM. We could conceivably have a 4 way tie at 2 losses with Wisconsin as well. Are we still pretty much screwed as it relates to the Rose Bowl?

No matter what the circumstances are, I can never seem to be able to pick which team I want to cheer for in that game. Doesn’t matter if both teams are good, bad, or split. I don’t want OSU to win it, but I would love to see Michigan ineligible again.

“it”

Every great team has “it”. Iowa had it (until today). The 2005 team had gobs of it. The 2008 too, but maybe a little less. This team has none. Total inability to make big plays in big games. They’re the most talented team in the Big 10, but they just can’t dig deep when they need to.

I've just had a thought

Let me preempt this by saying this is not meant to be an attack on Pitt. Nonetheless, let’s say Pitt loses their last two Big East games (Cincy and WVU – it’s feasible). If you’re feeling frisky, feel free to add in a loss to ND. Then, lets say Temple continues their winning ways and at the very least, loses in the MAC championship game to CMU. Again, it’s not unthinkable.

Are you still following me? Well, I’m sorry, but let’s continue anyway.

This means Temple is one of the top 3 teams in the MAC and Pitt falls to the 3/4 range of the Big East. This means that the International Bowl might get the chance to pick both Pitt and Temple to play in Toronto.

“But Icersguy – that won’t sell tickets!” It’s the International Bowl – it wasn’t going to sell tickets anyway. Hell, you need a passport to see that game! But I’d watch that game for the match-up of the two other PA teams alone.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

That’d be frigging awesome. And since most Temple fans are really just Philly area Penn Staters, it’d be like our JV team vs. Pitt. If Temple won, I’d freak the hell out.

This happened when the game was pretty much over, but it might have irritated me the mosts.

7:00 left or so

1st down: screen to Zug, catches it for a one yard loss. Negative yards, 30 secs roll off.
2nd down: reverse for Powell. Doesn’t go out of bounds, 30 more secs.

Stupid stuff like that, which probably won’t get addressed because it’ll be maked by the other flaws of the day. I’m losing faith in the wideouts. Clark can’t make them better next year.

Just got back...

On my way out of the stadium, I bumped into a random guy. I heard Laurinitis got a tackle credit for it.

The D played well enough, but was on the field for too much time. The O was typical big game conservative crap, which showed on consecutive 3 and outs with 3 runs.

The Ohio State fans (note the use of “The”) were friendly enough, though I did not appreciate the folks to my right selling their seasons for the game. I found myself apologetic every time I made a comment after a Pryor play like, “I mean, everybody does. Passes to you, passes to me.” On my way out, I shook hands, gave a good game, and wished them safe travels home.

If someone told me they’d bet that Pryor would throw an accurate bomb, I’d have taken that bet and put my house on it. For the first time in his career, he looked competent. However, it helped that tOSU limited his north to south passes to only a couple, and the rest were safety valve throws or short dumps.

All in all, OSU sucks, PSU sucks more. I’ll be Iowa’s biggest fan next week (amazing how a week changes things).

P.S. LOLZ @ Notre Dame. Even more LOLZ at Michigan.

An existential question for your consideration

While watching the Iowa/Northwestern game today a thought occurred to me. Hayden Fry copied the Steelers’ uniforms in the early 80s because he wanted his team to "look like winners" (I’m paraphrasing – it has been almost 30 years). Anyway, in the uniform design community, the stripes on the sleeves of a Steeler jersey are known as "Northwestern Stripes," named after the practices of Northwestern University. You might say they invented them. Of course, Northwestern no longer wears Northwestern Stripes. Today, Iowa is the only Big 10 team that wears Northwestern Stripes. Does this mean that Iowa is actually Northwestern?

c/o wikipedia

A last is the form in the rough form of a human foot, used in shoemaking to provide the fit and style of a shoe. It is used by cordwainers or shoemakers in the manufacture or repair of shoes. Lasts come in pairs and the material used to make them are either European bass hard wood or hard rock maple such as grows in colder weather, or special high-molecular-weight, high-density polyethylene plastic (HMW-HDPE).

Just as a random side note

I believe the title of the thread should have actually read, “Here We Come, Mate!”

"In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."

I just google image searched for a wordsearch and rearranged some letters

but I probably should have looked at the wordsearch first.. there are some interesting things in there.

I'll be rooting for Indiana to beat Purdue and Michigan to lose out

so that they officially finish last in the Big Ten. It was close last year, they tied for the worst overall record but Indiana has a lesser Big Ten record. And last.

Actually michigan upsetting OSU would be nice

so it’s essentially a win win. But that won’t happen.

damnit

Now I have to post “last” again.

Ya know what's funny?

Mike told me the screen names of all the new users who registered after the game…clearly Buckeye fans with near zero IQ, relying on their poop jokes and joepa is old jokes, etc.

LAST

Awesome lol,

is there anyway he can make it so those screen names NEVER have the ability to comment? I mean, we all know how much OSU fans don’t care about the rivalry, so clearly they’re going to be bombarding us as soon they get the chance.
