Some Fat Charlie Obituaries
Extra linky to same spot (CFN). These are all pretty good and pretty fair. I like that they didn't skimp on references to his arrogance.
Some of my favorites:
Fiutak:
"He was what the program needed as far as an Xs and Os coach, but he lacked the personality, the people skills, and the recruiting ability to make Notre Dame a superpower again. He failed to let others into his program to provide insight and to try to help, and because of the BCS runs in his first two seasons, it was impossible to convince him, or anyone, that the whole thing needed to be torn down and rebuilt to get to the level that Notre Dame wanted to be at."
Cirminiello:
"With no head coaching experience or experience at this level, he wound up being out of his league, yet the arrogance, not to be confused with confidence, always found its way to the surface with Weis."
Bradley (who inexplicably finished with 'he's rich, but he's unemployed'; umm, who cares, dude? Why are people employed in the first place? Cuz they're not rich)
"Weis’ "schematic advantage" never materialized, and he only won big with Ty Willingham’s players. He paid scant attention to the defensive side of the ball, while trying to load up the offense with playmakers who could make him look more smart. But his biggest sin was in having never led a program at any level. That made him susceptible on the recruiting trail and during the operation of a game."

My favorite Weis story
This QB is a highly rated recruit coming out of highschool, recruited by everyone. Charlie comes to his house, tells him he’ll make him at least as good as Tom Brady. He’ll make him an All American in 3 years, and ready for the NFL before his senior season. Weis butters this kid up, and the kid takes the scholly and attends Notre Dame.
A couple years later he calls the kid into his offce, smuggly tells the kid he doesn’t have what it takes to be a college QB. Kid doesn’t have the arm, doesn’t have the talent to make it, all that Tom Brady talk was BS. Too bad, so sad, good bye.
Kid transfers to another school, upset about how Weis just tossed him aside, and ends up at UConn… Turns out Uconn plays ND, and this kid gets to start at QB for Uconn. He gets to beat Weis, at ND, on senior day, in overtime, sealing the fate of Weis’s career at ND.
I heard this story about Zach Frazer from some old dude at a party like two months ago — he knew the kid’s family (from Mechanicsburg) and all that, and he told me this story way before the Uconn game, so that when I was watching the game it was twice as satisfying… Imagine how Frazer felt.

Musta been a great, great win for that kid.
"For me the game wasn’t grounded in reality. It was about the uniform you put on that turned you into a warrior. It was about the mythology of the battle, the victory, the defeat, the struggle." - Mike Reid, PSU '69
Never heard that before
Great tale. I truly hated Charlie Weis because of these things. He was such a smug a-hole. Not a bone of humility in that lard infested skin bag he called a body. Then doesn’t even talk to reporters and face the music like a man.
Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Name. All Game.
"Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth."
My dad told me about this
Weis did congratulate the kid after the game, so he didn’t go full douchea. Though if I were that kid, I would have been tempted to jab at the coach that told me I was a nothing.
I don't think this was the problem at all...
The Irish and AD Jack Swarbick better get this one right because after Bob Davie, Tyrone Willingham, and Weis, this program can’t afford another lightweight on the sidelines.
