Sweet 16 with Sweet Pics

The Team is in the Sweet 16, after womanhandling Binghamton and Penn. They will play Florida this evening in Gainesville, a home match for the Gators because that seemed a fair way to level the playing field. Blair Brown says that's OK, she's not afraid to do The Rec Hall Leap in enemy territory...

Star-divide

This update was supposed to happen much sooner, but an 1130 "quick" meeting at work lasted 4 hours. Alas, here is your "quick" update. As announced, The Team is headed to Gainesville. Cal will play Baylor (who knocked off No. 8 UCLA) at 330, with The Team taking on Florida at 6. The game will not be on TV, but if you go here you can listen to or watch the game live, streaming from someone, I don't know who. The winners of the two games will meet in the Regional Finals on Saturday at 4 pm on ESPNU (is that a channel or a web thing?). Florida will not be an easy match, and playing the game in Gainesville does not help. The Team will need all of your thoughts and prayers (if that's your thing), so try to think more about hot chicks in tight shorts tonight than you normally would.

Special Errata Edition

As announced last week, The Team cleaned house at the Big Ten Awards. Well, the AVCA released their regional awards, and to no one's surprise, The Team swept again. Alisha Glass, Ari Wilson, Megan Hodge, and Blair Brown were named First Team All Regional, while Russ Rose was Regional Coach of the Year, and Darcy Dorton was Regional Freshman of the Year. The national awards are announced in conjunction with the championship, played next weekend in Tampa.

Yup, that's Cathy Quilico

Picture links to gopsusports bio. I’ll leave Junny up to further Quilico picture production.

PSU takes the first set 25-12

Game tracker has them with a .512 hitting%

I like it, Junny

This will look good in “You Found Us!”. It’s not really perverted, but still kinda sounds like something an old man would search for.

This webcast is really annoying

The announcers are from “Gator Radio” and while they’ve been pretty fair so far, they seem much more excited when Florida scores.

I'm not listening

but can you blame them? I mean, it’s not like they’ll have much more to get excited about this season. ;)

Watching the WF-UVA

Men’s Semifinal in soccer on ESPN, and I’ve noticed something. College soccer is kinda sucky. Take nothing away from these guys – they likely could all kick my butt at said sport (or in real life, whatever). But the passes just aren’t clean, the defense is usually fairly light and less physical, and the player and ball movements are just shoddy. For being two of the top four teams in the nation, this is kinda painful to watch.

Sorry, that was completely off topic

How about this to wrap it back to the original topic – they should have this WVB game on ESPN instead of this soccer match.

Soccer is like hockey

But what makes hockey exciting (slapshots, fighting, brutal hits, awesome Lemieux hat tricks, fighting, fighting, and fighting) is lacking from soccer.

I watched a few Monmouth U. games this fall (men ranked in Top 10 for a while) and their games were really physical – like a rugby match with a soccer ball. Both men’s and women’s teams were like that.

Yeah, college soccer kinda sucks. I actually really like soccer, but the problem is that the kids who are really good don’t go to college — they are involved in one of the many academy type setups for professional teams. And I don’t think youth soccer teaching is all that great in the US to begin with.

I hope our basketball game ends on times
Saturday, 9 p.m., ESPN: THE U debuts, and it will be epic, a two hour tribute/expose/epic to/about the University of Miami’s rise to power in the ’80s. If you have no video or are at work, the best quote from the clip above follows courtesy of Steve Walsh.

I saw some prominent players. They had greys on and stocking caps on. I said "What are you doing?" And they said, "We’re going out to get car stereos."

I’m excited.

I could get used to this:

Penn State defeating Florida down in Gainesville in playoffs in various sports. Men’s basketball last spring, women’s volleyball this fall… I like this trend!

didn’t have enough gusty play to be the athletic school in the country.

Congrats on the win. Three BigTen teams in the Elite 8 and all have a very good shot at advancing. Good luck with Cal.

Don’t forget that your Final Four opponent (because it’s not like you’re going to lose to Cal) plays at 11:30pm ET. Michigan vs Hawaii, also on ESPNU. You’ll face one of them.

I hope it's you guys

I know it’s traitorous of me, but I too want to have Juliana Paz’s baby… and I will fight that MGOBlogger for it.

That's okay, I'm a Bower guy... even if I'd cheat on her with Lexi given the chance.

Although I think both of our teams have some of the best looking teams in the nation.

Thanks to everyone for the comments.

I was away all night and had to rely on the comments for my updates. If I could figure out how to easily comment from my Blackberry I would have. But don’t forget, Elite 8 action is today at 4! PSU-Cal winner will take on the Michigan-Hawaii winner. Both of those teams knocked off a Top 5 team to advance, so assuming we get past Cal, the road doesn’t get any easier…

That’s 100 wins in a row.

It's pretty amazing

I’ve been to most of their home games in the past four years, and I’m just wowed every time by the clinics they put on…

Yes, definitely amazing.

Mucho props to Rose and the girls on the team. They’ve done an excellent job and have not let up. They deserve many accolades.
